no road trips til the engine has 1k miles and oils been changed
Why the cringe song though
I guess they are not MT tires
Let’s get out in the 470s!
DAC actually USES the brakes so it won't save them for if you need them, as info.
Thank you! I now know what i want to do to my GX for music! Please let me know what bluetooth adapter you decide to use. & After this ill update my speakers and ill be good.
No Prob! Glad this helped. We honestly should have done this sooner!
Great dogs
Good educational video
Did u need the weather strip on the front part or no
It came with a “putty” to close those gaps but did not need weatherstrip. It’s been a year and that putty needs to be replaced bc it melted
From what I can tell. To remove the cover you need to undo the center clamps fold it up and your done? How heavy is it with all three panels together for removal?
You need to open it up all the way then remove the struts then you can unhinge the panels. The center clamps are the last to come off. We have not taken it off all together but the front and rear panels are around 50 lbs each. Their site says 125 lbs total.
That would be so easy to break into. Bad design!
Diamondback has a lock on each panel. Haven't had any issues so far.
How long did it take may have missed this in the comments
Putting it on the first time was about an hour or so just figuring everything out. Its been under 15 mins every time we needed to put it back on.
Wrong tires to start with...
Besides the awesome looks, this is not practical for everyday purpose specially if you want to utilize the entire space of the trunk. Imagine having to loosen the bolts and taking the panels apart every time you have to haul something taller and larger in your truck. Gets old real fast
This is a really good point. When we get 6+ feet of wood from home depot or something longer we just have the rear cover open. Not going on the highway or anything, just city roads less than 50mph. Can't see anything from the rear mirror at that point though...
33s will do 35s look better, but individual choice in the end.
Wish diamondback made a one piece cover!
What about the weatherstripping
The weather stripping has held up pretty good. No complaints there.
Reliable vehicle 👍👍👍
Nice rig! Have a GX470 in Pearl white like yours. What’s your wheel width offset ?
Maybe the traction control is still engaged
Not fan of this Tonneau.. when u gotta get something from the front its impossible...I'd get sick of it so fast .
Small man problems.
Little man,s syndrome
We haven't had issues getting anything from the front. If you're under 5'5" might have an issue just bcoz the bed is a bit deeper but opening and reaching for the bed has no issue for us.
I am curious how you know you have a 2.5" lift? I did, in theory.., a 2" lift & have 33's on. Comparing what I see in the video, it looks to me that my tire to fender gap is larger. I am curious of your experience when lifting the car.
Does he have his center diff lock on?
Yikes!
Does the tailgate let down automatically or is the seal too tight? Thanks, great vid.
bump- I'd like to know this as well. Also, does the weather strip on bottom come with or did you do that separate? I see a seal that you can buy but looks like it's just extra and not the whole way around.
You have to play with how much you tighten it down in order to allow the tailgate to still fall automatically. It can definitely be too tight so the tailgate just stays up, but we haven’t seen any issues in terms of seal with it only tight enough to allow it to still drop automatically. The weather stripping came with the kit. There’s an additional weather stripping piece that also came with but we weren’t exactly sure where that was supposed to go or if it was extra
@@JPTrek thanks! Appreciate the video for when I install mine!
Did you have you diff locked?
No lol
How high in elevation are these camp sites?
Most of our campsites were at 6000 - 7500 ft
Awesome!
I'd LOVE one of these--- but don't know if my body could take the jostling around- and I'm not sure of being able to change tire on trail- etc.. (got mashed between two trucks in 99),, and I'm also not sure of the 8=10 MPG... !!! what mileage do you average on that vehicle??? I'd love one-- for the winters here up in the hills of Southwest VIRGINIA-- we get wet icy snows...not the powdery kind.. and I just like them-- but I'm thinking a mazda CX-50 AWD would be more practical for me--
We average 15-17 mpg. Mileage would improve without our larger and heavier tires
@@JPTrek WHAT kind of driving conditions? Daily- offroad only?? I'd be using mine mostly for highway drives-- and in case of bad wet icy snow which we get a lot of here up in the hills..
With 33 and up you have to REGEAR for the speedometer-- right??
I’ve read it might be a good idea to regear on the larger tires. We haven’t, but just know our speedo is off
Who carries an empty pistol?
Where are the “big guns?”
There are as many types of mud as there are different kinds of snow. It ranges from just watery sand and dirt, to wet, sloppy dirt and clay, to wet clay, aka gumbo mud or slick clay. Clay just binds to the tires and acts as a lubricant. As good as the Wildpeaks are in snow, rain, and light mud, it can't handle the slick, gooey clay mud here. Just turns the tires into glazed donuts. Probably needed mud terrains by this point, or aggressive hybrids atnthe very least.
I have mine coming in next week along with some Yakima rails. A little nervous about drilling into the cover, but Yakima said that there's markers underneath the cover that will guide in drilling, but nothing is mentioned on Diamondbacks website. Can you take a look underneath and let me know? It should be dots with a "Y" near them.
Cancel that. Haha. Rewatched your video again on my desktop with a bigger monitor and say the markings. Thanks!
This is not the first GX I've seen doing actual 4x4 stuff. A few years ago, we were coming down from a camping area/trailhead for Crestone/Humboldt and saw one coming up. I work at a Lexus dealership so I was LOVING seeing that rig modified and doing hard work. That's not an easy road to drive up!
What trail are you on?
Teamwork makes the dream work😁😁😁
Why not. Its not an if but a when. When can be now. :)
Haha! We are debating on it but it was $275+ a tire when we looked the other day 🫣 soon maybe 🤪
@@JPTrek $275 + more suspension, which includes new UCAs + fuel economy ding + trimming + weight + spare relocation ++++++++++ not worth it imo
@@nonamegame2138that is true! MPGs will probably take another hit. We’re cruising 16mpg these days. 18mpg if it’s all been highway!
My lc200 went from 14mpg on 33inch ko2 to 10mpg on 34inch wildpeak rt01 😅
She eats alot more once u add bigger tires. Love the car but wish mpg was better. Miss my supercharged tacoma
Sent her a little to fuk'in too hard!
*Promo sm* 😣
Huh
How tall are you. Is it good for short people like 5'8"
Pat is 6’. No lift on the Tundra right now, but Jill is 5’ and can close front cover easily since the lock is closer to the side of the bed but she needs to step on the back bumper to reach the lock on the back cover. At 5’8” I don’t think you’ll have any issues! Super smooth open and closing too.
Throw your floormats under the tires!
Go watch our whole vid about it 😉
What’s the song?!

What'up,very breathtaking editing, have a good one!
Thank you!
Man I am jealous. My 2023 Tundra Crewmax Limited "L" 4x4 does not arrive until the end of this month, in Canada. Great video on the install. I was going to get a cap but am leaning towards the tonneau cover. "So many options." Just the one big question: how easy is it to get the doggy nose prints off of the inside of the windows??? Take care and stay safe from; Petawawa, Ontario.
Thank you!!! The DB is built really well and we were impressed with it. But I guess that’s what you get for the price tag! And we havent wiped those doggy nose prints yet 😂 will let you know when we do tho! Lol
Nice job. So your cover didn't come with bed rail cap shims? I have mine on my 2018, which I bought used and now I'm seeing you should install shims before installing the cover.
No they did not. The instructions didn’t mention anything about it, but we will definitely look into it now. We recently took the DB off so will see. What do the shims do? We adjusted the rods several times (just omitted from the video lol) for the right fit. Do you need to retighten yours from time to time? Or do the shims save you from doing that? Thanks in advance
@@JPTrek Gotcha, I just got mine like a week or two ago. I bought a used diamondback in really good shape. So the bed rail cap shims might not be required I believe if they didn’t come with it. Pretty sure it just raises the bed rail cap a little, so when you tighten the clamps down it doesn’t crush your bed rail cap or damage it. And yes I did have to retighten mine once so far. Hasn’t come lose yet lol
@@2805Heath I am curious about this as well. My understanding is that the shims fill some of the voids underneath the cap.
I emailed Diamondback asking if I needed to purchase the shims for my 2024. Their response was that 2022+ Tundras do not need the shims.
Does it LEAK???
No
New tundra owner here. Loving the look of the Diamondback cover. Off-topic, how do your dogs do stomping around on your back seats. Any long-term worry they’ll trash the back of your new truck? I want this Diamondback but still considering a bed cap so dogs can hang out in the back. A lot of pros and cons to both so I’m confused as hell.
We always plan to have that dog seat cover in the back whenever we are bringing the dogs. For the most part, they usually take a nap on the road and we have their space cushioned with a dog bed and a couple blankets. Spent about $60 on the dog cover and best investment with the dogs in the new Tundra so far (oh we've had some incidents!). Diamondback has been great so far and can always put stuff on top of it (although that limits the accessibility).
@@JPTrek Appreciate the response! It'll be the 1st time I've had a truck and trying to make it all work with family/dog/gear. Just can't decide between a Smartcap and the Diamondback. I'd prefer the Diamondback but don't want to make an expensive mistake for what we do.
Shit 😂 I reside in Ogden Utah 🤣.
