I watched Inspector Gadget when it was repeated on CBS early Saturday afternoons in winter 1991/92. After so many clean-shaven episodes, they aired this episode, so the mustache caught me one time. But all subsequent reruns that same year showed Inspector Gadget clean shaven, as well as reruns on Nickelodeon and Family Channel later that decade, lead to me wondering the mustache intro/episode was a dream. I didn’t know this episode aired on CBS, considering they obviously could have aired every episode (and I know some episodes aired at least 2 times on CBS), I am surprised they would have chosen the pilot. I didn’t know the pilot episode airing on CBS, but I also know I didn’t see it each week, because Nickelodeon was still rerunning Inspector Gadget at the same time. When season 1 of Inspector Gadget went into daily weekday syndication a year later in 1992, my local Fox station only aired the show Monday through Friday, and since those same episodes always aired on the same day of the week, all 65 episodes aired, and one of which was this pilot.

Grew up on this show in the 80s during its reruns. Glad to see it stayed popular the 90s.

The pilot the Chicago market got - plugged as starring the voice of Don Adams (we kids were familiar with both "Get Smart" and "Tennessee Tuxedo and his Tales" by then) - depicted the character as noticeably more competent than in the finished series.

I also watched on CBS Saturday mornings from 1991 to 1992, syndicated television via Bohbot Entertainment from early 1993 to 1994, The Family Channel from early 1993 to 1995. After many clean-shaved episodes, they aired this episode. But all subsequent reruns those years showed Gadget shaved clean version, as well as reruns on Nickelodeon later that decade and the beginning of the 2000's, and on Fox Family/ABC Family in 2001, during the early 2000's, lead me wonder that his mustache didn't grow back no more.
