The life and works of Oscar Wilde
The social season is upon us!
The blossom is unfurling, the champagne is chilling and my hairdresser's diary is filling up. All this can only mean one thing - that it's time for me, Miss P to host my annual Oscar Wilde tea in honour of the great writer and raconteur.
Join Joffrey and I as I drink some blush-inducing (but rather tasty) screw-top champagne, sample some cucumber sandwiches and celebrate a man who has delighted readers and audiences for over a decade with his hilarious and glorious words and creations.
Oscar Wilde, we love you!

It's time to dig out those bell-bottoms! That's right, it's the 1970s! My dear viewers, I don’t mind confiding in you that the 70s was the decade that stumped me. On approaching my bookshelves I realised I’d only read a couple of novels published during this time, and turned to friends, family and staff for recommendations. I was directed towards an alarming number of science fiction works, a l...

Miss P Presents - why do so many people love Jane Austen?
The Magus my favourite novel.
Worth reading is Radclyffe Hall's "Adam's Breed", (1926). Winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. A much better book than "The Well of Loneliness", which in itself is a good read and has become iconic in a way. I'm working my way through all your videos. The bite size reviews are just perfect. Have you stopped producing videos?
I just discovered your channel and I must say - You are fabulous ! Thanks for the recommendations!
@radiantchristina thank you so much for your lovely message 😘
It seems like we have the same taste in books! I love your recommendations
Thank you @connorshirshac1948 🙂 I'm so pleased you like them - do you have a particular favourite from among these?
Love the voice
Thank you! 😄
The awkward pause as your champagne pourer struggles with opening the bottle. 😂 Edit: I continued watching and learned his name is Geoffrey. Geoffrey is amazing.
Thank you so much Bethany! It goes without saying that I would love to pass your comments onto Joffrey but worry that such high praise would only go to his head! (You know what butlers are like!)🤣
@@missppresents1139 You’re completely right. It would totally inflate his already out of check ego! 😂
Hilarious Miss P - descendant of Aunt Augusta perchance? Spooky ❤
It's certainly a possibility! 😂😉
Educational and hilarious! Love this! ❤
Thanks George! 😜 So glad you're enjoying the channel!
I love this little series!
Thank you Maria! It’s so lovely to hear from you ☺️
Crazy, gorgeous wallpaper! Thanks for the entertaining review! Looking for a good book to read and you gave me some great ideas.
Thanks @loftus4453! It’s so lovely to hear from you and I’m glad you like the wallpaper (I’m a bit obsessed with it 😍) Let me know how you get on with the reads!
My family and other animals is my top comfort book. As well as any of the Miss Marples! X
I've just ordered a copy! I loved The Durrells and have been meaning to read My Family and Other Animals for some time :) I love Miss Marple too!
Great choice of books, will definitely be looking for the Lost Art of keeping Secrets. thanks, Sx
Thank you Sally! Let me know when you find a copy, I'd love to know what you thought of it!
@@missppresents1139 I have ordered it from the library; I will let you know.
Thanks for the suggestions - deffo gonna have to check some of these out ✌️
This channel is so cool! 😁
❤️ your content. Keep it up 🤙
Thanks George 🙂
Brilliant choices. So hard to pick and brave to commit!
Thanks Kirky! 😘 As you say, it is extremely hard to pick!
Nothing will beat the 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice. I wish its spin-off novel "Wickham's Second Attempt" was made into a period drama, like this concept trailer suggests #wickhammovie
I couldn't agree more! - the 1995 Pride and Prejudice is perfection! I haven't read Wickham's Second Attempt but I love the sound of it, I'll have to get myself a copy!
I hope the BBC Vanity Fair (1998 version )gets in! My favourite because it combines great acting, brilliant locations and what I regard as the best soundtrack to a series. I agree that TV series, rather than films seems to suit period drama better.
I'm ashamed to say that I've never seen it, but from the few clips I've found online it looks fantastic! Thanks for the tip Kirky! The BBC have certainly made some incredible period dramas over the years 👏
@@missppresents1139 Luckily for you I have it on DVD. Happy to lend it to you!
@@simonkirk2109 happiness indeed! 😊 I would love that!
I’d recommend the TV adaptation of Brideshead Revisited
It is absolutely brilliant, isn't it? Definitely up there on my list of favourites!
A great thrill to see Miss P review these Jane Austen inspired novels witty, sharp and always enjoyable ❤️
Thank you 😘
Awkward, unattractive middle child! Do such people exist?
Only in fiction!
This is a video of wonders, indeed!
You are too kind, Sir!
Jane Austen would be proud 🤓
The greatest compliment one could ever receive...
Oh, you're v. funny! But your dear mama sounds an absolute nightmare!!
She certainly is discerning! 😏
Worth the wait, as funny and entertaining as always ❤️. Congratulations to Joffrey on his well deserved award and to Miss P for these delicious Videos 🥂
Thank you! :) I'm always so happy to hear your thoughts, dear Joffrey as well asked me to convey his thanks for your kind words xx
Great book selection Miss P - I love The Way I Live Now, a book that I still think about often. Such a powerful novel. Your reviews are brilliant! 😍
Thank you Gaynor! It's so brilliant, isn't it!? So simple, so moving and so powerful. I agree that it's definitely a novel that stays with you a long time after you've finished reading it.
Absolutely wonderful choices, and brilliantly explained
Thank you! 🙂
Great reading list, clips and images with comedy moments thrown in - love it ❤️
Thank you Ruth! I'm so glad you enjoyed it ☺️
Great stuff as always Miss P! 😍
Divine as ever
Thank you! 😘
Brilliant Miss P! Read a Long sounds just like your thing 😂😂
It does, doesn't it? If only Joffrey's friends weren't so peculiar - it could be quite a nice evening! 😂
Hilarious and informative as always Miss P ✌️
Thank you George! 😁
Great video so funny Miss P - I hope Joffrey returns to take the empties away soon and restore calm ;)
Thank you Ruth! Joffrey has returned but not (as I had hoped) with his tail between his legs. I fear that his recent trips have emboldened him; he's getting al sorts of ideas. Apparently he's even joined a book club - without consulting me! 😲😤
You are hilarious 😂 great work Miss P!
Thank you! 😊
The look at the end too! Love it Miss P great video as always!
Thank you El! Hopefully I've made it clear to him and it will never happen again! 😁
The beginning is hilarious 😂😂😂
Another top take. Great stuff!
A relief to see Joffrey’s back - was worrying for you Miss P, thankfully harmony is restored today and another great set of reviews packed with Miss P’s fabulous personality!
Thank you so much for your concern! Even though I was certain all would be well I'm not used to having to fend for myself. Joffrey has assured me that it won't happen again. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Love the comedy as well as the captivating book reviews Miss P 🥂
Nice book reviews as always Miss P!
Thank you! 😊
So funny 😂 Geoffrey needs to hurry back! Love the book reviews
Thank you! I'm hoping he'll be back next week, full of remorse and bearing gifts... 😊
Love your book reviews! Hilarious as always too 😁
Are you a fan of John Fowles's novels? If so, which is your favourite?
Got to be the collector for me. So gripping and unsettling.
@theinfamousjeremyb that's my favourite too! 😊👏
Brilliant reviews Miss P!
Ellen knows what’s right! 😛
@IronsideGeorge she sure does! 😉
Fabulous Miss P! Winning combination your reviews, humour and great clips!
Awesome book reviews - keep up the great work 😁
Thanks Georgey!
Do you prefer novels written in the first or third person? Although I love both, I believe that (almost) all of my favourites have a first person narrator! 😋
@@king-babe7393 I'm so glad you like the sound of the books - I'd love to hear your thoughts on them when you get the chance. I really enjoy both 1st and 3rd person narrators too - I love how observational 3rd person novels can be. Have you ever read any of the Cazalet chronicles by Elizabeth Jane Howard? They are some of my favourite books ever and I have a feeling you would enjoy them!
Love a bit of Jeeves and Worcester!
JP surely it's impossible not to! 😍
Divine Miss P! I’m inspired by your witty and beautifully summed up reviews, fabulous! 🙏
How many of these have you read? Did any of your favourites make it to my list?
I love “I capture the castle”. Going to have to read Gigi after your review. I can’t wait for the 1950s.
I'm glad Colette got a mention. I've just started the Judith Thurman biography. I remember being caught reading Claudine at School under the desk in some boring lesson (can't remember which) at my convent school, and thinking I was going to be in big trouble. Mysteriously, after I'd obeyed instructions and put it away, it was never mentioned again. Only when I returned years later as a teacher was I told that everyone was far too embarrassed by the lesbian content to run the risk of talking about it.
I’m surprised not to have read more of these already, I have a list to look forward to now and they sound exactly my types of book
@@rosannasummers3428 you always have the best stories!
@@rosannasummers3428 I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Thurman biography. Have you seen the 2018 film?
