Ten years after the video I posted of her second birthday, here is her *twelfth* birthday, which we spent driving from our house in Cincinnati to my grandparents' apartment in Maryland. This video shows both the drive and the minor celebration we had once we got there.

My sister Rebecca and I get along great-*now*. But there was a time-a long time-when we hated each other's guts. This clip, which is still considered one of our family's favorites from the archives, is a good example of that.

Thought I'd post another clip from the family archives, this one going back even earlier than the previous three-in fact, this is the earliest home movie of our family in existence. This video was shot almost two and a half years before I was born.

Captain Kangaroo-Artie and Uncle Ralph meet an alien
I still remember this from 50 years ago! I was in a UA-cam worm hole... and I ended up here! Thanks, Captian!!
What is the name of that music that was playing when Arnie was entering the store. Sounds great.
2024.........still going
Month🤓
The Town Clown was originally on a Saturday morning show called Mister Mayor that Bob Keeshan did in the mid '60's.After that show's demise,he moved to Captain Kangaroo.
Dancing Bear's flat nose gave me nightmares.
Is there anyone here in 2024?
The very ending of this theme song I've remembered for years. I thought of it and decided to look it up to see if I made that up in my head. I did not. I'll be 43 soon. I read online that he stopped the show in 1984 but they continued to air it and added in new segments until the 90s. I guess this wasn't the original theme song from the 60s and 70s though.
"I like liver, you like stew (Ew!), but both of us like __________ ? It's at the 00:54 second mark and I can't figure out what the lyrics say there. Hmmm. Any help?
Privacy I dunno 🤣
2:01 That character looks like snuffy like character
Who played the town clown in captain kangaroo
watched this in the 1060's WOW !!!!!!! lol
CBS dropped "Good Morning, Captain" in 1981 for a new theme song...and a new TITLE, "Wake Up"! The new format and new set didn't work, so it was back to the "Captain's Place" a year later, when the show was cut back from 5 days a week to Saturday mornings, although it was extended back to a full hour and there was a new theme song, "Here Comes Captain Kangaroo", written by Schoolhouse Rock's Lynn Ahrens, for the show's final two years, 'til the very end in 1984!
Such a handsome dude
I always thought Dancing Bear's face looked poorly planned. Is that a nose?
This dude right here is what started it all for me. From the age of 2-5 yrs old. When Town Clown would come on the Captain Kangaroo Show. (You never knew if or when he might appear.) My butt was outta the room quick as lightning! I would not return to watch the rest of the show unless I was effectively assured by any reliable adult I felt had a good character and strong morals. At age 2-4 or 5 yrs. I was motivated primarily by shock & fear. By 5 1/2 years old. The fear solidified into absolute distrust, disdain, A Strong Sense Of Pure Evil trying to hide behind a mask of unassuming, relaxed, playful, friendly, fun loving, antics. Specifically intended to misdirect and lull children nearby for the purpose of completely disarming any and all Sense of harm and danger in order to falsely gain their trust then blindside and victimize mercilessly until their Innocence innocent is permanently stolen and then discarded with the common trash. The really difficult to understand thing of it is that dispute all the grease paint, hijinx, clothing, vocal changes, silence and any other "Clown Gear"... It is so easy to see past their extreme attempts to disguise, misdirect and misrepresent themselves. It is so easy to see through them. Yet for some reason I will never understand. It is the adults that are blinded first. Then the blind adults disregard the angst and fear of the children they are caring for. They disarm the children and blindly offer many up as urban sacrifices to the Clown Monsters as they, the adult protector. Pass a quick wink and crooked smile on to the youthful offering while the child's innocent hand is maneuvered into the clutching hand of These"Clowns"!!!!! Hey There Humanity... Open your eyes and perhaps even for a brief moment you will see the truth which is stuck in the thorn bushes.....
I always try to imitate him and have so much crap in my clothes they would fall off
Looked forward to him every year back in early 60s really something
I remember Capt Kangaroo from my childhood in the 60s & early 70s. I didn't know he was still on in the mid 80s for I was in my 20s then.
The good old days.
Dancing bear always looked weird to me. I think that big black circle was supposed to be his nose but it also looked like it could be his mouth.
Woah... I haven't seen or heard that since it was still being aired in the 80s. Crazy. The internet is a wonderful thing, when used correctly...
I remember this!!
I loved this character when I watched this as a kid...Its sad how society has turned clowns into the sick twisted obscene characters of today...I miss the simpler more innocent time (for children) of Capt. Kangaroo 👨✈🤠 🤡
I agree.
The music is the Feuerfest Polka by Josef Strauss (brother of Johann II). The title means "fireproof," and the polka honors a company in 19th-century Vienna that had been making fireproof safes for many years. Strange but true.
When I was a kid, I loved watching the Captain and especially, Dancing Bear. This brings back good childhood memories. I am now in my 60s.
Me too, what a pleasant walk down memory lane!! My folks were both still living as was my grandma....good times.
I was afraid of “The Dancing Bear” when I was a child. I would cover my eyes when he appeared. Now I find him cute😂
Documented!
I remember this from my childhood; grew up with Captain Kangaroo
I first saw the Banana Man about 1955. Definitely one of the oddest acts I remember from early TV.
I heard JB say that he screwed up his first appearance on The Tonight Show big time because he and his band were completely out of tempo and off-key because they couldn't hear over of the audience, not enough time to set up, and couldn't stop and restart (which he said Carson hated and wouldn't allow).
They're in the wrong key...lol
Omg the memories LOL 😂
THE CAPTAIN/ TOWN FREAKIN' CLOWN
As soon as Mr. Moose said the restaurant was called The Do Drop Inn, I knew it was a matter of time before the ping pong balls would come😂😂😂
Do you remember a Bicentennial episode, in which the captain tells about his dream of being back in colonial days? In his dream, he meets Mr. Moose's ancestor in a barn. Moose asks Captain to pull a rope, a bunch of straw fall on him! When he asks, "Why did you dump straw all over me?", the moose ancestor says, "Ping pong balls haven't been invented yet!", then he does his usual laugh!
I watched Captain Kangaroo every morning. Liked all the characters and especially The Town Clown.
This intro was also used when PBS had the rights in America.
The original Carrot Top. I cannot stand either, but appreciate the apparent vaudevillian roots of the Banana Man.
It is easy to get saved because it is a free gift Jesus has already paid for anything that would keep us out of heaven already on the cross
Too much cracks shown in this commercial.
This was so funny ,, the Captain show in the 50s ,, no shows like this one on Tv today . T V sucks to day , no kid shows at all . The Banana Man was my first hero. The Captain was our baby sitter..
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You can't tell me they weren't doing drugs
That was another good skit for children to like.
I love Bunny's cameraman outfit. He's so cute! Always saw the ping pong balls coming a mile away (straight up), but it still makes me laugh.
Would you believe I remember Captain Kangaroo from the early 1960's? Loved it!
