Great rundown!
I’ve been wanting to try and dm lancer for my friends and this video has been the most helpful for me so far!
Thanks mate!
Cheers!
My kin!!! I started up a Valiant comic book podcast on Spotify (coming soon to UA-cam) because of Mutants and Masterminds. I am a big fan of both and I created a channel to talk to fans about the game and the comics.
It's clear this game benefits hugely from a dedicated session 0, which I understand your format doesn't allow for. (I thought I'd be able to catch this one live, but life happens.)
Typically, yeah. But if it's an existing I.P. everyone should be ready to roll at session 1.
Look for four color fae for inspiration, or if you want supers in ciberpunk, Venture city. For another take into special powered individuals, not necessarily superheroes, check young centurions. Victorian Supers, Kerberos Club. If you want a Fate game with a list of powers, then try Daring Comics. Those are all Fate or Fae. and if you ever want a superhero game where being teenager is as important as being a superhero, and are willing to go to a PBTA game, check Masks.
I'm currently running SF2e for my home group, and they're loving it... and it's just the playtest! Really excited about the upcoming classes in January (technomancer and mechanic) and seeing where this takes us. Great channel! really enjoy your content. New sub here!
Great video! I enjoy watching all of your content! For a crunchy, non-OSR Sci-Fi game, I highly recommend Battlelords of the 23rd Century. It's a d100 system that has excellent power armor rules.
Thanks for the shout! I'll definitely add Battlelords to my list
Nice vid Tegan lots to look forward to, happy gaming in 2025
Thanks for the shout! Happy Gaming
Looking forward to a lot of new ttrpgs.
Great list, Tegan! I’m really curious to see your coverage of the FFIVX full system. While I think Fabula Ultima does a great job of capturing tone, atmosphere and JRPG single field combat mechanics, I’d love to see a more tactical system tackle the same aesthetic and having an official one that fits that bill seems really cool. Most of your top 5 are the same for my most anticipated: Draw Steel and Daggerheart, especially. Im also looking forward to the release of Dolmenwood as an all-in-one OSR style package, with wonderful art direction and a pseudo-historical Mid 13th-14th Century-inspired, Fae-influenced setting. I just pre-ordered the Phantasy Star RPG, as Rich Lescoflair’s next Sci-Fi game, which will heavily adapt his Esper Genesis 5E system, but tied to that classic JRPG Science Fantasy Series. Cautiously optimistic about the Exodus Traveller’s Handbook, from Archetype and James Ohlen. Based on the preliminary screen shots (which are admittedly promotional) that product looks to adapt the 5E base SRD rules into a sci-fi space exploration system in a unique universe based on that video game’s lore.
I need to read more on Dolmenwood, I missed the Kickstarter & haven't had a chance to dive in yet. Also I had no idea there was a Phantasy Star system coming out! Loved those games as a kid!
@@TeganJGaming If you enjoyed or took a look at Esper Genesis, it’s stated to be an adaptation of that ruleset. I sadly did not have a console growing up, but did read gaming magazines and loved the art and presentation I saw for Phantasy Star. I’m really hoping for something unique as a tie-in science fantasy game but derived from 5E base rules to keep it “recognizable”. Hope you had a relaxing holiday, if you celebrate, and that you have a wonderful New Year!
wow! what a year to look forward to!
Merry Christmas bud
Merry Christmas!
I backed AWN and Monty Python. Other KS I've backed that should deliver in 2025 are the new Conan system from Monolith, and Voltron from Catalyst. I got to playtest Voltron at GameHole con, and I'm definitely excited for it. But my number one most anticipated is the Han Cluster setting for Savage Worlds. That KS will happen in Q1 of next year. And it's been number oneon my most-anticipated list since I first got to taste the setting in an online one-shot.
Both AWN & Monty Python feel like they will be amazing 1 shot systems for vastly different reasons lol! I definitely have to check out the Voltron system didn't even know that was a thing
Ashes WN is one that interests me ... the rest, not as much. MCDM with their vtt is a possible, but our group all passed on KS for it. For the most, our group will probably wind back to older TTRPGs next year; OSE, Worlds WN, Fateforge, maybe another one or two.
I'm curious to see how MCDM's VTT shakes out. Especially with some of the environmental rules they described. Hoping it takes a lot of the work off the GM for setting that up.
@@TeganJGaming Being more theatre of the mind lately, if their VTT works, might be enough to get the game. I've liked most of what they've released about the game so far.

If you're going to look at fate, look at the news version-a clean-up version of fate. That is Fate Condensed.
Really enjoying this series (working through it an erratic order), if and when I get Fabula underway, your How To videos will be required viewing for the players.
I have a couple of Fate-based games, but have never played or run the system. It should help to see it in action.
Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as general systems. Savage Words is best pulp style adventures, and Fate feels like it best for thriller. And well, working on my own system that I once would have called a generic system, I would these days say I am going for drama, especially the type one can see in stage plays. Of course people can do things outside the what a systems might excel at, but there will be always something these generic systems will do better than other things, even if it is very rules light, like Fiasco, which still does the Coe Brothers movie thing better than say it would do when used for say a Micheal Bay movie emulation.
FATE Core is one of my top favorites. 😊
I love about fate: 1) the skill pyramid let's you know at a glance what your pcs can do as a GM 2) the create advantage mechanic is a heart of fate. It makes so many rules condense into it, and it's most important part is letting players be useful in scenes they are not built for. You not a fighter? Fine. Roll rapport to boost allies. Investigate or notice for enemy weaknesses. Roll resources to show you have better equipment. Or craft! Sneak to get an advantage. In a social scene? Roll physique to be a looming presence to help your mate etc
The create advantage mechanic was a ton of fun during my game at Gencon! Looking forward to see how it runs with the Core system vs Accelerated

Great breakdown, man. This was awesome. Thank you!
Thank you I'm glad it helped! Loved the Stars without Number system hope you and your table enjoy it!
Heck yeah lanser
Thank you for highlighting this! The break down was super helpful!!
Thank you, definitely happy it helped! Love the podcast and system, hope you and crew have fun with it!
Love your work, bro!
Thanks for the shout man!
I’m getting ready to play this with a new group tomorrow so I’m watching to see a bit what to expect
I really enjoyed this system, can't wait for 2e next year
You break down the rules of a game better than any other youtuber I follow Tegan. Clear, concise and to the point. No beatin around the bush with you and I like that.
I'm glad it comes across like that! I can get a bit rambly so I try to keep it concise
Liked and subbed! Great video.
Thanks for the Sub!
I was railroad man like you till I took a bullet to the knee!
I’m torn between an earth or water bender originally thought fire but ya not feeling it.
Well I’ve been looking at the rule book and even though I don’t have a group yet. I’m building a stout protector that gets rough and rowdy. A veteran that’s returned home after military service. A giant of a man that likes a glass of whiskey and a Cuban cigar after a long day. Haven’t chosen a skill yet but leaning toward butchering or engineering.
20% wow! We could just pass that bottle around the table and we'd all be feeling good. New Holland has some good stuff. I visited their distillery recently and they have some pretty good spirits/cocktails too.
Man. I played in kds like playboys, serenity ect. brings back memories
Thank you for the solo gaming perspective. Not every1 can do an 8 player campaign. Also be careful when solo gaming, too much can lead to talking to yourself and you start seeing orcs inside dark closets.
This beer sounds amazing!! Hope I’m lucky enough to try it! 😄
Free League has 29 books up on HumbleBundle for 18 bucks. If you just want the pdf. I’m going to grab it just because of the Forbidden Lands books
Happy Thanksgiving! Pinnacle Entertainment has 30% off of Savage Worlds Pathfinder as well.
Hope you have a wonderful Turkey Day, Tegan. Thank you for always bringing the positive and focusing on introducing new systems and being a strong member of this community. Really appreciate all your hard work and analysis. Picking up the One Ring on deep discount this weekend thanks in part to your coverage of Symbaroum and the way Free League presents their products. Hope you and yours have a great holiday.
I really appreciate the kind words Matt! Also you're going to love The One Ring
Pathfinder remaster has a humble bundle now
I checked and it's mostly pre-remaster stuff, but Player Core and GM Core are included in it
Some really nice flipmat and adventure path support too. If you only care about trying out the remaster $30 odd dollars is a good deal.
Not one for the hardcover fans, but I heard Demiplane will doing a big Cyber Monday sale.

Awesome work! Commenting for the algorithm.
Fantastic work! I'm enjoying your video making sure I made the character correctly! Thank you!
This system looks great. My big question is that is there enough in terms of power advancement or new toys to make levelling up varied enough to keep more min max type of players invested?
There's a ton in power advancement. The nice thing with the system is that it's not linear & through point buy players can either enhance their current kit. Or add on crazy new powers at each level up. With the system you can go all the way from an average guy to Dragonball Z easily
@ thanks for clarifying. Might look into it more throughly.
@ thanks for letting me know. One other thing I would ask is if you use grid maps for the combat.
@@theblindjedi41 Everyone runs that a bit differently. I tried Grids but the hard thing is that most heroes will have crazy speed that can't really fit a grid. I usually opt for theater of the mind since building huge maps wouldn't be fun
One of the criticisms I find is how the Ranger roles try to push your character into being like one of the Mighty Morphin' cast, even when other teams use different Ranger colour compositions from MMPR: Red: Leader (Jason) Blue: Tech expert (Billy) Black: Heart of the team (Zack) Pink: Sharpshooter (Kimberley) Yellow: Tactician (Trini) Green: Lone wolf (Tommy) I'm sure the other Ranger colours like Gold or Purple have different team roles associated with them, too, but the core rules only focus on the main six MMPR team members (with the White Ranger also apparently an upgrade to the Green Ranger, which even more tries to squeeze the Green Ranger characters into playing like Tommy) Maybe it's just me, but the Ranger Spectrum dictates a little too much about how your character should be played in contrast to the personality choices you make during earlier steps in character creation, especially when there are examples all through the franchise of characters with personalities that don't adhere strictly to the Spectrum traits - not to say it's bad to have your characters share an association with particular Ranger colours, just a little too rigid if you want to play a character that's a particular Ranger colour but not that particular role in the team. I dunno, maybe it could just be treated as a soft rule where it's GM's discretion whether it matters or not to the game.
