thank you so much for this video i was having the same problem!!! like yess give me pink give me girly but also give me gritty!!! i want "girl games" that aren't just cute and cozy i want cute games where u fuck shit up!!! n esp in a world where so many things look so visually boring and samey like sometimes i just wanna play a game with cute and unique visuals not hyperrealistic ... idk whatever stalker 2 is i got sorry we're closed which someone else in the comments recommended n i'm so excited to play it i love the art n models!!! n i am foaming at the mouth for don't stop, girlypop! but ion think it even has a release date on steam yet X[ it looks supa fun tho
what is your definition of girly game? The only aspect where I can think a game can be feminine or "girly" is when it comes to its aesthetics, and I don't think any of these games looked particularly feminine nor do I see any correlation betweem them to define them as such so I'm really curious about what you mean by "girly games"
I loveeeddd Toram online for a long time. I played it more often back when it first dropped and to be fair the bosses were hard bc they were kind of designed to be fought as a party of 4 real players (even the harder bosses, like empress, are doable in 5-10 minutes if you’re properly leveled) but it’s hard to get full parties to do content when the main story’s moved on. It’s unfortunate but I think wouldn’t be an issue if you even have 1 friend to help carry you through early stuff. You can even get mercenaries, so by friending a high level or joining a guild you can hire their characters as npcs for your own party. Also, I didn’t know Chef RPG came out!!! It’s one of those games I really think will be a ton of fun to sink some time into. If you enjoy games that are designed to be fast paced and addictive, I recommend giving “Final Profit: Shop RPG” a try! There’s a free demo (idk what you play on, but if you use pc it’s on steam). One of my favorite games I played in 2024. It’s a very quirky game with a hilarious and often time cringe narrative. Very special and unique, worth at least a shot!
Even as a guy a lot of these appeal to me, some of them are already on my wishlist (Unbeatable, Going Under.). As someone else recommended, you might like Demon Turf of Pseudoregalia if platformers are your thing.
omg RIVER CITY GIRLS WOULD FS BE ON YOUR LIST!!! it's actually a beat em up spinoff from a series called kunio kun and not only is the gameplay and abilities super rewarding yet difficult, the aesthetics and characters are super girly. I adore rcg and I wish more people knew about it
I see no one listed blue reflection a magical girl game i love the art style not even gamer but love magical girls and girly things. Rpg action magical girl where run around school forming bonds with other girls. There also crystar or crymachina never owned the games though but would like too. There also night of azure though does have questionale fanservice but who said females don't like fanservice in their games though does depend the presentation of such if deam female or male fanservice.
Though so glad this discussion topic I'm writer and artist who always loved girly thing ever since I was child but I also always more darker mature edge of interest such psychological drama often with philosophy, thriller, action, great characters development with more real consequences even some tragedy can be good if fits the circumstance as well girly character designs. But I guess I'm just that rare person so ya know how the saying goes if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.
I really wanted to like Crystar but it felt like a poor imitation of some of the things Nier was going for, and the gameplay is very clunky. Nights of Azure is also a bit janky but I had a lot more fun with that one.
i love the idea of girly games that arent cozy bc they are out there!! ive tried so hard to go back to cozy games after 80h+ on stardew, but like you said, as a working adult, the last thing i want is a game that gamefies chores, no matter how cute it is lol the ones that instantly come to mind for me are Mother/Earthbound, Yumi Nikki (creepy tho), and i havent played it yet but judging by the very little i played of the og and the ost, SMT5 Vengeance (i like to call it scabby girl summer lmao) also for cozy games that are not girly, highly recommend the long dark. tbh a lot of survival crafting games are cozy with an edge lol also yakuza, shenmue and persona (yakuza is peak camp, people can deny it all they want. plus all three have great life simming and heartfelt stories). and *most* Zeldas id say are cozy lol
It's not super girly, but Laika: Aged Through Blood is a game for the girls! It's been a long time since I've encountered a game that talks about the experience of being a woman so well, while still being super hardcore and bad ass! It made me cry many times, you should definitely check it out <3
Great list! I recommend Virgo Versus the Zodiac for its great story and soundtrack. It's a pixel art style turn-based rpg with a cool battle system and a lot of equipment customization
I love cozy games but my faves will always be action, adventure, puzzles, and psychological horror! Lists like these are super important! My fave non cozy girly games are: (just my opinion) Fran Bow, Alice Madness Returns, Adventure Escape Mysteries (seriously this game series needs more recognition! It is like 40 games by Haiku Games), Contrast, Flipping Death, Life is Strange series, Little Nightmares series, Mirror's Edge series, and don't forget that some Nancy Drew games are legit terrifying! I've also been really into Infinity Nikki because it's not just a cozy game, it has a lot of different elements to it.
Honestly the only girly game that has really scratched the itch I've had lately has been Infinity Nikki. Though yes, it is more marketed as a cozy game, but it's Cozy in the way Breath of the Wild is Cozy. You're still fighting enemies - though they're mostly one-shot trash mobs and the bosses are defeatable in under a minute if you're used to action RPGs. But it Almost gets there, what I long for, crave, is a good, unapologetically feminine (which Nikki is, no doubt, brownie points there) hack n slash magical girl game, with really good combat and enemies that actually provide a decent challenge.
I think that might be why I enjoyed Record of Lodoss War-Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth-. It's not about a traditional magical girl exactly, but the only PC is a high elf who fights with a mixture of sword/bow, and magic. The pixel style is gorgeous, the metroidvania feels engaging, and it helps that I happen to really like Deedlit and have since I watched Record of Lodoss War as a teen. But also, ugh. Nikki has healed so much of my inner... idek what. But it's been healing and just. I didn't know how badly I needed a game like this.
@@Starscall Nikki really is, so so sooo close to the game I always wanted. It literally has made me cry several times (the crane ride, the views, the more intricate outfits, the ending of the main story etc), it's like playing a Barbie movie from the early 00's. But is everything the Barbie games have lacked. Engaging story, interesting characters, fun gameplay, gorgeous world and a beautiful soundtrack. Infold did good. 👍 The only downside of course is it's a gacha game. It's just lacking a bit in the post-story stage. I combed the world hardcore so I've done basically all but 2 sidequests, found a majority of the whimstars, chests and dews, cleared every cave, and have beaten every style faction on Perfect. Now its slowed down to me just logging in to do my daily wishes, gather the daily respawn materials and spend my vital energy. I want more to do! 😭
I’ve gotten into the Atelier RPG series with the Ryza line of games, and have been playing Atelier Resleriana, the series gacha that involves characters from across the franchise. Love these games, I would say “girly” for sure! Character casts are largely femme-forward; there’s a lot of character-driven story and character development as you go; a lot of wholesome supporting one another. Add to that the gathering, dungeon delving, crafting, and world-saving and you’ve got some really solid and heartfelt RPGs. Ryza 2 was my first entry (not counting Mana Khemia, years before) and I think it hit best for me of her games line! Big time recommend!
It really is still sad that girly aesthetic games are still supposedly "not good to make" or people can't figure it out..but like cozy games are so broad that it does encompass what used to be considered "girly" games. Idk people underestimate girls and women consumers all the time when so many of them play the most insane, quirky and mainstream games.
My favourite type of video, someone talking about a super niche kind of video game that they're passionate about! Thanks for all the recs, I hadn't heard of most of these before but I'm a big Old School Runescape girly! Fida Puti Samurai looks soo good
Fida Puti Samurai is too fun. It is categorized as a roguelite, and honestly an addictive one. If you dig that, the def check out World of Horror. WHile not girly per se, it hits that itch pretty well
I can't recommend "Infinity Nikki" highly enough. Though the tagline is "coziest open world", it is more of a platformer/rpg and unapologetically feminine. It's my personal GOTY, you can feel the love and attention to detail oozing out of the screen no matter what you're doing in that game. IThere is a gacha system, but it's not predatory with how it's implemented. If you like zelda, animal crossing, mario, spyro, genshin impact, then highly recommend <3
Just gonna drop some recs here: Lollipop Chainsaw RePop, The Bunny Graveyard, Slippy the frog, (a bit cozy though) Lunistice, Demon Turf, Class of ‘09, Little Misfortune, Fran Bow, Vividlope The Cosmic Wheel of Sisterhood would probably be considered a cozy game but I feel I should mention it because it’s one of those pieces of media that I feel encompasses being a woman. Some not-so-girly but still total girl boss games: Bayoneta(she is such an icon), En Garde!, Pseudoregalia, Metal Hellsinger Baulders Gate 3 can feel girly too Some that haven’t come out yet: Lost Records: Rage & Bloom and Incolatus: Don't Stop, Girlypop! Very, very girly.
Heck yeah! On Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood - love it; I might be iffy about it’s coziness, personally! A lot of the narrative is pretty heavy, the choices you have to make and the interpersonal repercussions… it could get pretty stressful for me at times hahah. It definitely has a good cozy game proportion though.
@ Your right. The beginning was very cozy but it ramps up in emotions and intensity. I absolutely loved it, especially the parts with her sister. She was unlike any character I’d ever seen and their bond was so sweet.
Sayonara Wild Hearts would be a fantastic addition to this list, stunning visual style and soundtrack, one of my all time favs. To swing back in the totally opposite direction would we count Silent Hill 3 bc Heather Mason is an absolute girlboss
Great video! I can recommenced two games, an upcoming one called Incolatus: Don't Stop, Girlypop!, which is a ultra pink movement shooter, that looks amazing! I'm also recommending my GOTY, Sorry We're Closed, which is a super queer Survival Horror with a unique shooting mechanic and great art and characters. There's a demo you can try out, Highly reccommend
i love all these recommendations this is what i never knew i needed! i did struggle to find the third game but it's actually called going under also if you like old game vibes check out cloudpunk! that one surprised me it's not particularly girly but the vibes are great
Yes!! Unbeatable is frickin amazing! Cannot WAIT for the full release. Also, if you want to play something with MMO aesthetics and gameplay hooks but isn't bogged down by being... an MMO, check out CrossCode
Have you played the atelier games and/ or blue reflection? They’re girly games that I really enjoy but I don’t consider them cozy games. Although if you don’t like crafting maybe atelier isn’t for you
I actually always interpreted it as her lying so that the boys wouldn't hate her. Like “what, no way?? I didn’t know THAT’S why she wanted you, i swear…” Amazing video on one of my very very favorite shows ever. ❤️
4:29 Is it possible that Beatrice misinterpreted Adelaide's meaning of a "servant" I have to say it doesn't so much come off as a joke as much as it does a [realization] of a misunderstanding from Beatrice in that scene (also an absolute hats off moment to the voice acting and the animation, to be able to convey such subtle surprise from the character) I truly think that Beatrice wasn't thinking that Wert and Greg would lose their humanity... but I haven't seen OtGW in quite some time (a good excuse to watch it again!)
Beatrice, Wirt and Greg have such a good dynamic. I remember watching it back in 2014 and just loving it dearly. It's a classic for a reason and I know that people will continue to watch this show. Instead of wishing for a second season or continuation, I think creators should instead be inspired to create more works of art like this.
The moment you first mentioned Beatrice I knew exactly what you'd be talking about lol, this line has always annoyed me too. Honestly it doesn't really read as a joke to me, I figured that maybe the idea is that she feels guilty not because she knew Adelaide would enslave them but because she knew Adelaide wasn't able to help them get back home. If that were the case though, it feels weird to make Adelaide also be evil, it's a lot of whiplash to suspect that something's up, have the reveal that Beatrice was leading them to their doom, and then that Beatrice was still lying but actually didn't realize she was leading them to her doom. It's a really jarring way of presenting it that puts too much onus on the viewer to sift through a bunch of plot details in their mind to get all the character motivations straight. Not to mention that it really undercut's Wirt's feeling of betrayal, making it feel more like an annoying misunderstanding than a true breach of trust.
My interpretation is that, offscreen, whatever agreement was made between Beatrice and Adelaide was clear. Making a Faustian bargain with a strange witch to return your family to normal in exchange for child labor is one that she *did* know would be unethical (especially considering she's responsible for her family's transformation in the first place). Knowing this, and feeling doubly guilty for causing both her family's plight and the strangers', she presumably gaslit herself and tried to assuage the memory of their agreement to make it seem more palatable. As her guilt grows with the companionship she builds with the innocent boys, and as the reality of their potential suffering sets in, when she's actually faced with the witch, she plays dumb to try to stay her guilt. Adelaide reminds her how clear their deal was, and she gives up reacting the way she always has, with deception of herself and others, and decides to try a more noble acceptance of her responsibility by offering to take their place.

Game with PS1 graphics reminds me of that one anime about Girl Maids waging war against each other with weapons
@@karyotesnyan7265 please tell me what that anime is called

Great list! I recommend Virgo Versus the Zodiac for its great story and soundtrack. It's a pixel art style turn-based rpg with a cool battle system and a lot of equipment customization
You might like Sayonara Wild Hearts. An infectiously fun pop rhythm game. Short, sweet, and polished. I liked it.
I love cozy games but my faves will always be action, adventure, puzzles, and psychological horror! Lists like these are super important! yes yes yes heavy on the magical girl part. that’s literally why i’m becoming a game dev bc i want that to exist
@WoobyWooby I will pre-order that the moment it goes live if you make that a reality! Manifesting this for you! 🕯️
