Neil Gaiman : Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Neil Gaiman : Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Last year the media decided Ed Pskor was guilty, despite the fact he had no criminal charges against him, as a result he took his own life.
Now, Neil Gaiman is in the same situation - will we never learn ?

Hi mark I’ve got around 8 x Gemini mailers in my USA locker for comics I purchased I’m worried if Stackry rip open the Gemini mailers they will not be careful when packaging the comics to consolidate the weight, I have visions of the comics being bent and full of spine ticks when they arrive back to the UK any advice would be greatly appreciated :) thanks
Let us not forget that being convicted or acquitted in a court of law has no bearing on whether a person is actually guilty or innocent either; the Central Park Five were found guilty, and OJ Simpson was found not guilty, for example.
Miscarriages of justice certainly occur but the courts as a mechanism of upholding our laws are better than anarchy.
@@SuddenlyComics Of course, but the courts of law and the courts of public opinion are not the same thing, and the public are free to make up their mind about Gaiman or any other celebrity.
@@pappy374 They are, but then effectively hounding people until in some cases, such as Ed Piskor, they kill themselves, is not acceptable.
@@SuddenlyComics No, absolutely not. I think it's fair for people to conclude that Gaiman has a lot of questions to answer, in a legal sense, but like anybody else, they need to leave it in the hands of the courts as mob justice doesn't help anybody in the long run.
Love Sgt. Fury and the run is a jewel of my collection. The earlier issues can be easier to find than some of those later in the run, particularly in nice condition. The John Severin inked run on the series is a true gem!
Neil Gaiman said himself “believe all woman”. Neil Gaiman (self proclaimed male feminist) loved condemning others, now he is on the receiving end of a witch hunt. He is a hypocritical idiot, he should have kept his mouth shut. He was always there throwing more gasoline on a fire, now the fool is burning himself.
Do you really think people are "happy" to see Gaiman's disgrace? Every fan I know is catastrophically disappointed. Secondly, do you know how hard it is to get a prosecution, let alone a conviction for such crimes? How traumatic it is for the vitims to litigate? Gaiman's a millionaire. His victims were not. He's going to be fine, just like Joss Whedon, who also faced no criminal cases.
Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein were both far richer than Gaiman, and were convicted of their offences. I am not sure what you are suggesting, that we convict people purely on hearsay without the opportunity for the accused to defend themselves ?
It's sad people lives can be ruined over here say
Very true
You are 100% right. Even court/jury judgement is no guarantee; I have witnessed that first hand with a recent public case. Nobody will believe me so I won't go into it further.
I 100% agree with you.
SGT Fury #1 is a beast of an issue, grats. Love that you are now collecting 1-50... haha ! funnily enough I have quite a bit of this series too, and did not intend to hunt it down, same with some weird war tales, GI Joe and some GI combat etc. War comics are not something that was on my radar for reading but have picked up a few over the years in various bundles.. Greetings from Scotland
Great interview, good to see the younger generation embracing the hobby, and its a sub to him from me. Greetings from Scotland :D
I did that with Jonah Hex, bought his full run of Vol 1, in amongst were some Weird Western tales, so I completed them, went back to All Star Western Vol 2 #10 and #11, then ended up getting #1 to 9. The amount of rabbit holes in this hobby knows no end!
Lovely book and thanks for the backstory
Cheers Wayne
The SGT. Fury #1 is a gorgeous cover, Mark!
Interesting comics, so 'Commandos' are a British army thing not American but they use that name by decree of British military? That's interesting, thanks for the knowledge. A nice serendipitous collection there, not as cool as DC war books but still pretty cool. Ayers art looks fine for war covers but they lack the visceral grittiness that Kubert was the master of
Agreed
Gary Friedrich went on to create Ghost Rider 💀🔥
Are you going to include a Strange Tales 135 as part of this run…?
I did buy a low grade Avengers 1 raw for just under $1000. It’s has more vibrant colors than this one has. I had EGS grade and slab it, I got a 1.8.
I agree with Allen, I prefer a complete comic and I think this is a great price for a .5
The other world event which may have had an influence on the price of Fantastic Four #52 was the height of the "Black Lives Matter" movement ... was this at the same time as the peak or thereabouts? That movement is less in the news now
Good point !
They lost more than $100 on that Avengers #1 if they used an Auction House (20% commission probably)
Silver Age comics just over 7 inches across, and 45's / single records 7 inches ... so the record would definitely fit into the slab !
The 1966 Golden Record reprints indeed had 45’s in them, the 33 1/3 lp’s were story ones without comics, done in the 70’s
Thanks Kyle
According to the DC Database Carmine Infantino, Neal Adams and Ira Schnapp did the cover art, so I assume Neal Adams did the inks?
Ist cover appearance of Aquaman and Martian Manhunter Alan, not Green Lantern? I do agree with you Mark, if slabbed makes no difference if there's a page missing as long as the cover looks smart, who cares! Rather save up for a higher grade than buying taped up scrap paper!
Correct on both counts Terry !
Using UA-cam to sell the Planet Comics bound volume was genius ... I might have a go at that myself for some of the Dobson stuff :-) Great video review of the year, pleased to have made the shortlist ! Cheers & enjoy !
Thanks Darren !
That bound House of Mystery surely has a lot of wonderful (and often overlooked) art inside. I'm always a sucker for EC as well. I only have a few of the science fiction and war books (none of the horror which was never my bag) but I won the final issue of Weird Science Fantasy #29, with the legendary Frazetta cover, years ago on a MyComicShop auction and it's maybe the grail of my small collection. Those two FF's and the Golden Age comics are all beauties! Congrats! Ditto on The Killing Joke. I bought a 1st edition when it came out on newsstands but my pristine copy was quite literally damaged (but not destroyed) in a hurricane along with my Fireside Books' Origins of Marvel Comics.
ouch - sorry to hear about the hurricane damage !
@@SuddenlyComics It was a long time ago. Still have the comics but the water damage renders them worthless (except sentimentally). Living not just on the coast but on a small barrier island, I always had to be ready to put my most valuable comics in a chest and toss it in my trunk when evacuating.
Was lovely to meet you mate. Thanks for the shout out. You had some great pick ups last year. Thought bubble same time again this year?
Definitely Wayne - but we will pre-book somewhere to eat !
@SuddenlyComics definitely mate. Let's try that Chinese maybe.
We have a lot in common when it comes to favorite pick ups and Auction loving! I unfortunately have not been able to attend an auction due to the distance to any major auction house, but I am addicted to the on-line ones lol. My FF 8 and 11 are two of my favorite pickups as well; along with my BM 100. I am so glad that the FF comic's are still "down in price" for a spell. I am just looking for a #1 and #5 now at a good auction buy to complete my small run so far. Enjoyed your other pick ups as well. I have never sent anything to Heritage to be sold, but it sounds like fun to have some Credit on hand when you are shopping yourself. 🤗
Yes I'm lucky there are probably 15 to 20 auction houses within a 2 hour drive from my home. Good luck with the FF #1 & 5 - I suspect we are near the bottom of the market so now is the time to strike ! I'm probably going to send some more items to Heritage, it's a long slightly worrying process, but it was nice to have a pot of money to buy keys I wanted.
Wow, you had a great year!
Very cool books
Awesome pick ups, Mark!! Those early FFs are great & historic early Marvel Age! Sounds like you had some good luck with lot bargains!!! Good luck in 2025! 🍀
Mark! Wonderful video of all your grand purchases in 2024! Lovely stuff indeed! The Sgt. Fury #1 is a great early Marvel, and I have had similar purchases of random books I liked start me collecting the runs. I will say I never regretted doing so, because like you, earlier disinterest transforms to enthusiasm by chance serendipity. Buying the full set of Rex the Wonder Dog was a similar situation for me. I had no intention or any inclination towards the character, but embracing Rex with Alex Toth art and Carmine Infantino's Detective Chimp worked out great. Kudos, Mark!! Great 2024 for you, and an even better 2025!! Best, Stephen ❤❤😊
Thanks Stephen - my collecting is often serendipity driven !
Hey Mark, wishing you a Happy New Year from Canada! Loved that auction story near the end, and that Joker cover was absolutely spectacular!
Cheers Eric
I'm liking the look of that bound House Of Mystery, very nice!
They are great Steve - one of a kind
Love the Planet 55. Great books overall!
Cheers Keston
You had a jolly good year mate, here's to lots more in 2025 for you
Cheers Grey
That Weird Science Fantasy has Harlan Ellison’s first pro work in it too… Though I thought you’d purchased my Weird Science #11 during the year too…🤷🏼
I did Kyle ! where the heck did I put it ?
Love that Batman! Did you read those Planet comics, before they left you? Congratulations on the wins, last year!
A couple but not all of them - art better than the stories IMHO
DC Presents #47. Haven't got a 9.8, but it's close! Look forward to the end of the year!
I do hope Action #252 does increase, mine's about a 5.O thankfully I had a very nice seller, so never paid anywhere near what Allan paid! Not that I'm selling! But nice to have a few books worth something!
Action 252 not Adventure! Interesting picks chaps, now we just have to wait for 12 months to get the results
Amazon MGM has the rights to the Masters film
Thanks Matt
Action 252 is only climbing ;(
Hey matt buddy
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Mark. I completely agree with you. I think most people are mainly collectors, and their interest in whether or not values rise or fall is (to whatever extent) secondary.
Enjoyed the video! Here's a little tip for your viewers, if they don't already know. Make sure you always check you LCS's "kids" box(s) of back issues every once in awhile (I would say their "adult" boxes as well). I went to a comic shop around Thanksgiving and they had a "Kids" labeled box that I could tell hadn't been accessed in a long time. Found a copy of that Beneath the Planet of the Apes comic, with poster attached, in VF condition with an $8 price tag. This was a dealer who apparently considered anything Dell or Gold Key as kids comics so there was a lot of good stuff there VERY cheap such as Turok, Solar, etc.
Oh Lord! She threw your books away! Totally sacreligious!!!
That Batman comic is so gorgeous that I don't have the words for it! Thanks for sharing!
Fun to watch - even though you're both better buyers (collectors) than sellers! 😆 Same here! Good stuff, Guys!
Watching what you were saying at the end Mark, is it true, or is it a flip of a coin? lol! Joking aside, you both know your onions! Happy 2025!
