TOOL's for Learning
Приєднався 7 тра 2024
Welcome to our channel and thanks for stopping by.
That's not a typo. TOOL is for Learning.
I started this channel to combine a couple of my passions
1. The music of TOOL
2. Playing Guitar
3. Sharing what makes these songs so good and fun to play.
This is not about playing the songs exactly like the recordings. Instead, the idea behind this channel is to use TOOL songs and the playing style of Adam Jones to teach viewers to play guitar while learning to play the songs.
Videos will be a walkthrough of some music theory, skills, and techniques that are used in the song and then a tutorial follows to play through the song using the topics covered in the first half of the video.
Please Click subscribe and the alert bell to get notified every week for our latest upload.
Also, please leave me a comment with any suggestions, requests, or just say hi.
I'm looking forward to sharing this channel with you all.
Please Keep Coming Back.

Ya know what id love for you to cover? MERKABA!
Let me look into that. I’m going to start covering other bands also. I’m gonna start with some Deftones……
@TOOLsforLearningwithRay ok, id be amazed if you found out how to play merkaba...
Happy New Year. Thanks for making these great vids. Learning a lot!
Happy New Year! Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you’re getting something out of them.
Which model of that guitar you end up with?
My main guitar that I typically use is a 2012 Silverburst Epi. I just got the AJ Mark Ryder Queen Bee but I don’t really play that one much. I’m going to start using it more this year.
@ Gotcha. My main TooL guitar is also an Epi Silverburst as well with the pups swapped. I have one of the Bee 🐝 art models but I don’t really play it. To be honest I don’t really like it. Heavy as heck and the fat neck profile isn’t for me. I mainly got it just cuz I’m a huge Adam Jones fan
@ Really wish I’d have known about the non-art model with the Gibson headstock prior to getting the one I have 😡
Same here. I do like the sound of the stick SD though. I’ve modded the other Epi so much that it’s like literally tailored to my liking. I got the Queen bee since it was the only one with the art on the front also. I had been waiting for one to pop up and it finally showed.
@ Yup. My Epi is modded with as much as can be and still make sense. And I gotta say it’s one of the nicest guitars I’ve played. What pups did you put in yours?
Hell yeah! Have you broke down on a video how you’re doing the intro to this song? It appears you be right on the money with it👌🤘
I haven’t yet. I’m going to do a lesson video on the whole song. I do have a video on the solo. Thanks for commenting
Yes!!!! This song IS soooo much fun to play! On top of it being just a killer song in general. Win/Win
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Man, such great insights into this solo! Fantastic!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it. Have a happy new year !
Put the thumbs up if you dig it man... Lol my buddy ray gots all these great compliments and no thumbs up there. 😮 👍
That is sick man!
@@jonnyguns3163 thanks man. Happy New Year !
@TOOLsforLearningwithRay same to you man!
Another great lesson…
Thanks man. Glad you liked it
Please make more viseo. I finally understand modes. Others talk too much and you get straight to the point. The visuals you use are very helpful.
Guitar and shirt matching.... 🎉
That’s a lighting trick. LOL
So what are you saying in the talk box? Certain vowels ? That is so awesome man!!! Thanks for doing all these videos…learning so much
@@shaner36 Cool man. Glad you’re getting something out of them. I’m actually not saying anything. I’m just opening and closing my mouth. I bite the hose on one side and just use my mouth like you would work a Wah pedal. You gotta catch a feel for it. You’ll find your “tone”. PSA Don’t crank the volume too high. That thing will shake the roots of your teeth!! LOL.
So than are u mixing the amp and talk box tracks in post? Or once you activate the talk box ur only using the sound from the tube ….? In the mix. …
@@shaner36 Yea. I’m recording both tracks in one take. That’s why I have the 2 lines running simultaneously. When I hit the button the sound is coming up the tube and into the microphone. The microphone is on during the whole take but nothing hits it until I press the button, put the tube in my mouth and start getting close to the microphone.
So you put all your modulation pedals in Loop1 and then gain and delay inside Loop2 ??? I don't play metal, so I would put gain string in Loop1 and then compressor, modulations, delay, and finally booster in Loop2
Hey. Thanks for reaching out. I redid this chain in this video with a better explanation. Let me know if this helps Thanks Adam Jones - TOOL Inspired Pedal Board build ua-cam.com/video/dgBHfUEcRHY/v-deo.html
Yes This is the general idea.
@@TOOLsforLearningwithRay I don't know much about those Boss Loop pedals. I have a Lehle D.Loop which does essentially the same function, but on yours you have the potential for putting pedals between the two switches as well, something you cannot do with the Lehle. But the Lehle has a midi link you can link to other Lehle pedals such that each Lehle button can drive the settings of all the other Lehle buttons depending on how you program the midi functions on it. Two loops though has the advantage that you don't have to prepeogram a huge pedal switcher with a preprogrammed set list and all that crap which I don't like to memorize.
@@CaptainAhab-im3kd exactly. That’s what I like about this approach. I can preset an entire chain and kick it on and off with one switch. I went from a Headrush to this because I liked the overall control I had with this set up.
Such a great song and solo! Too bad there is some issues with audio/video syncing
Thanks. I noticed there was an issue with the front facing camera going in and out of focus but I didn’t notice the synching issue. Let me watch it again. Thanks for the feedback.
Just got the same talk box, talk box settings? Did you have it go through a separate amp? Or same signal chain….a tutorial on this topic would be great!!! Another awesome video
@@shaner36 Thanks man. I’m actually making the talk box video now. It’ll be up in a couple of days. It is on the same chain but I’m running into a separate channel in my DAW through the microphone. Thanks for the feedback man. I appreciate it.

Is this song about reincarnation?
Hahaha. It kinda is but without the annoying dying part.
It could be applied to the grudge but i think it's more about letting go of negativity that you hold on to regarding certain aspects of our journey here. To let those things go before you go.@@TOOLsforLearningwithRay

I've been wondering who the scarlet lettermen are....
I’m pretty sure this is a reference to like high school Jock Bullies or something to that effect.
@TOOLsforLearningwithRay oh my gosh ive never thought of it like that. I always thought these dudes would've been so cool in school and then i look at the old gig photos and realize that they were probably "losers". Well I would've thought they were dope but perhaps that's cuz i was a loser back in school too... 🥹
@@jonnyguns3163 I thought it was based on the novel the scarlet letter. People "the scarlet lettermen" judged and publicly shamed you and can't forgive them.

BTW thanks for posting this and I really appreciate when people show the board and what’s on and when. I can’t always hear it. And or with I have as far as gear it can sound a bit different. I really need to find a good setting for my MXR 10 band EQ. It’s a really powerful EQ but just different compared to the Boss.
Cool man. Glad it helps. It’s a little tricky to line up but I figured people would get something out of it. I try to include what i always wished I could see in the videos I watch. Thanks for the feedback man. Be Well
Nice! I thought the wah was on during the parts in between when you’re Turing it on and off. That’s how it sounds to me anyway.
@@cody8992 Thanks man. Yea it’s just opening and closing during those long open D strums. I used to just alternate from the top strings to the higher strings before I had the Wah. Kinda captured the same feeling.
@ Right on, when I listen to the album to me it sounds like it’s on from 5:13 to 6:30 I was thinking it’s kinda mid position and then sweeps up like you did. But I don’t know just how I hear it. I might be way off. I have a version 1 of the BB535 and everyone seems to think AJ has Version 2 and that version 3 sounds the same as 2. But IDK I’m definitely not a wah expert 😂.
@ oh yea. Me neither. This is actually a digital wah I got a while back. It does a lot of stuff but setting the Q is tricky. I want to get the pedal you have to try to capture a more authentic AJ sound. I want to make a Descending video but I don’t like the way this Wah sounds in the outro solo. It’s too high pitched.
@@TOOLsforLearningwithRay I got my BB535 in excellent condition off Reverb for 95 delivered. It was actually mislabeled in description but I seen off pictures it was what I was after. They can be expensive but just saying watch the 535Q ones and look at pictures. The LED lights on top give it away for one.
@ cool thanks for the heads up. I’m going to look one up now
Man that was awesome. Watched it at 2x speed and it was Even more awesome!
@@jonnyguns3163 Thanks man. I never thought of that 2x speed thing. LOL. I’m gonna check that out.
Damn, that was cool bro!
Thanks man. I appreciate that. Glad you liked it.
Nice vid dude. But you need to play both strings on main riff and put a little bend something like 0-0-0-0-0-0-0 10/9---7----5 ----7 sometimes goes like 0-0---0---0---0 10/9--7---5---7 something like that, my english is bad, sorry a tried my best :3
Thanks man. I appreciate the feedback
Are there any Tool songs using the Harmonic minor?
Not really. I can’t think of any off the top of my head with a major 7th in there. I’ll touch on this scale in a next video now that you’ve brought it up here. Thanks
Awesome, thanks for doing this
@@jonnyguns3163 cool man. Glad you liked it. Thanks for your feedback.

Good job over all. Beautiful setup. But lots of parts you don’t seem to know. But you’ll get it. Just don’t get a big head from all these people who don’t know any better. You clearly want to be awesome at this extremely awesome song which is SO SO fun to play….. learn the last couple things u fumbled on. You did great
@@jambi1579 thanks for your feedback. Truth is I leave the fumbled / different parts in there. On this channel I’m not big on playing it perfect. Nice job I’m looking forward to the video on the sustainer. I have modified Epi, that’s very similar to yours. But mins got a SH4 in bridge. But I recently purchased a black Gibson custom shop and installed a. MJ wound DDJ did my research and figured out Adams guitar and the Gibson custom re-issues have 0.047uf caps on both pickups. Also did the DiMarzio volume pot it really did make a difference. 🤘🏼
Are you on the Adam Jones Guitar Collectors page on Facebook? If not you should be.
@ oh cool. I’m going to look it up now. Thanks
@cody8992 Thanks. I’m rebuilding mine and building another one from scratch for the video. I have an SH6 in the Epi. I’m going to swap it with an SH4 to sharpen it up. I like the idea of the Dimarzo pot but the pot on the sustainer has to be the push pull by design. The one it comes with is pretty responsive. Thanks for the suggestions Be Well

@@shaner36 Thanks for commenting. I’m guessing you’re saying you’re playing in A Dorian. Since you said you’re ending on an A.
