To claim the AK is in any way related to this weapon is nonsense. It is doubtful Kalashnikov even saw an StG44 while he was developing the AK. So let's set you and all NAZI fanboys straight. The layout of the AK47 was inspired by Kalashnikov's earlier SMG, which was inspired by the Thompson SMG. Milled receiver, wood stocks. Nothing NAZI there. Later the AK borrowed the underfolding stock from the PPS43, not because of anything NAZI, but because Sudaev was a friend and mentor of Kalashnikov. The receiver layout is Remington Model 8/81 inspired down to the safety lever. The recoil spring and takedown is a simplification of Sudaev PPS43. The longstroke piston was ... INSPIRED BY THE M1 GARAND as was the trigger in the AK. The early slabside mags were all Kalashnikov. The M1943 cartridge was just a lengthened 7.62x25 which inspired the 7.62x39. There is nothing that Kalashnikov took from a stillborn NAZI weapon to produce the most successful military small arm of the last 75 years. Nothing. Later ridged magazines were NAZI inspired, yes, but they were introduced in the mid 1950s. Was the StG44 the best Western small arm into the late 1960s? Yes, it was. A far better weapon than the heavy roller lock garbage of HK. It made more sense than the "battle rifle" decision of NATO. It has only been used in the Third World since the Red Army defeated the NAZIs. Was it a better weapon than an M16? Hands down, yes. But for obvious reasons the AK is a superior weapon. One only has to look at the layout of the StG's gas piston and how the bolt locks to see it is a completely different mechanism than an AK. An AK is a Russian tribute to the M1 GARAND in that regard. In short, the AK47 and StG44 are not related. Kalashnikov didn't have an StG on hand in late 1944 when he began designing the AK. And when you actually take the time to acquaint yourself with the weapons which did inspire Kalashnikov you see the American influence overwhelmingly.

Now I see where Stoner got his idea for his own design.

Great video and really helped with getting my 1918a3 apart and cleaned! I have to say you really undersold what a pain getting the recoil spring was back into the gas tube. Definitely a three to four handed affair.

fun fact, the HK416 and the SKS both use short stroke piston. which means the HK416 is just a German clone of a SKS. I'm being sarcastic of coarse. People who know guns, know the SKS and HK416 have nothing in common.

the STG 44 is basically a 1940's version of a HK 91. As someone who cleans an AK47 constantly (because I own one).........the myth that the AK is a clone of the STG 44. makes me laugh. when someone says the AK is a copy of the STG 44.......i just start laughing. its honestly funny. as someone who owns an AK, i know what a AK looks like.

That is a fine MP-40. I have an MP-38 and and an MP-40 also. The MP-38 is marked AYF-41 and the MP-40 is marked BNZ-42. The MP-38 has all matching numbers, the MP-40 has a different number on the bolt. But it's still nice. The MP-38 is my favorite gun in my collection. The most expensive one for sure. It's beautiful. I can just look at it for hours...
