Traded a Speed Triple RS for an Austrian-made BEAST | Super Duke 1290R Review | Part 1
Переглядів 5176 місяців тому
Trading a Speed Triple RS for a Super Duke 1290r, might be the perfect trade. I was trying to find a motorcycle to rebuild, but first, I had to find a new home for the Triumph Speed Triple RS. So I had it listed for a bit when a trade cash came along that was too good to pass up. This build is only to spruce up the Super Duke for better usability. Adding things like new footpegs and different t...

❤❤❤Greetings to you from Morocco. We have the same hobby and work
Awesome! You should start up loading videos to share the journey I’m always looking for new rebuild channels to watch! Thanks for the comment it helps the channel
❤😮
Hahah thanks
I agree 100%. I've always like the Speed Triples but never thought of owning one as I was only into sport bikes. That was until the local Triumph dealer asked me to come test ride any bike after covid to create some activity at the dealership. Needless to say 2 corners into my test ride I was sold on the throttle response and handling of the bike. I used it on the race track while I was building a dedicated race bike and the 1050 RS was so good that I contemplated getting a 2nd 1050 RS as a dedicated track bike. It's a great all round bike as it easy to ride it slow carving through traffic as well as fast when scratching through the mountain passes.
Yea there really is something special about a big 3 cylinder bike and to top it off all the creature comforts that triumph has on their bikes plus just the fit, finish and quality is so much better. Yea when I get some extra cash that doesn’t need to go into the next bike rebuild I’ll have either a speedy or a street triple as the go to ride.
Wow, thanks for this one. I like your way of working, very conscious and precise. Everything around you looks clean, at all times.
Thanks a lot! Although the video doesn’t always show the truth... It’s always a mess. Lol but I do try to keep things as clean as possible!
@@mendingmotos I am always a bit worried when I bring my bike to the shop. It ususally comes back with new scratches and damages. Your way of working is what I would love to see from every mechanic.
@@Amerigo73 Thanks! yea most shops have timed deadlines to get certain jobs done so things do tend to be a little rushed. me on the other hand i have all the time i need lol
What did you put on the plastic before you soldered it
That was super glue to hold it in place.
How difficult is this to do for a completely noob? I build my own gaming pc and ikea furniture😅. Think i should be able to do this as well.
Actually it’s not that bad! There are a lot of how to videos out there and you can get the user technical manual for free on the forums. Only the that might stop you is tools, time and money lol but any one can do it !
@@mendingmotos Hey thanks for the answer. I think i can manage this myself. This is really awesome to be honest becaus for like 500 euro's you can give your bikes a very unique look.
@@jameswayton2340 yea no problem have fun shopping for your next fairing set!
awesome video, it would be cool if you can explain what ur doing each step o f the way.
I might do a voice over yea, I’ll also have a video at the end kinda covering all the stuff I had todo!
nice work pal. I would concider to fix dents on the tank in some shop just to make it better look. Gratings from Poland
Yeah I wanted to but had a buyer lined up before I could get if fixed up. What was surprising is I tried to go painless didn’t repair route and I’ve seen motorcycle dents. Repaired without having to do bodywork but all of them said no to this one which was weird.
Adicto al Loctite!
You have to be with these bike lol rather it be stuck in place than fall out at 180mph lol
Total cost
I’ll go over that in the last video
Loctite'ing those 1000cc's is a must, I learned that the hard way.
Yea really anything that goes 100 in first gear gets EVERYTHING loctited lol
Nice👍
Thanks! And thanks for the comment it helps the channel grow !!

Well done Mate, that’s kinda video that I wanna watch 1000 times, looking forward for the next one🏍️💨
Wow thanks!! Yea I think about 2 more videos of the rebuild then it’s onto the fairings!
Ficou muito bom as novas peças, a cada dia um passo a mais e daqui a pouco a moto está pronta 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yea the rear sets look amazing and all the oem stuff better look good cause this bike is not cheap lol thanks for the comment!
Nice👍
Thanks! And thanks for leaving a comment, it does help the channel!
Looks like you've got your hands full with this one! Much worse than the Speedy 1050 RS. BTW, I've recommended your video from that re-build on various forums for the Speed Triple as a reference work on stripping the engine. Looking at the damage, the parts bill is going to be huge for this re-build! Looking forward to seeing how it unfolds.
Wow thanks for the reference! And yea the bill for this one is WAY BIGGER than the speedy…. Make me want to fix only triumphs lol
Prime it first ! 😅
So true… mistakes were made lol

Nice👍
Thanks for the comment !
Watch in x2.
Yeah it’s a long one lol
Nice I was supposed to buy it but sold it before I got it
Yea the seller really wanted it gone and wasn’t going to hold it so I was super lucky lol
@@mendingmotosyeah it’s worth it just sucks the forks are bent
@@CuffCamCentral Yeah that was one of the most expensive parts lol the triple tree was pretty tweaked as well making it hard to get out but luckily the frame checked out straight witch was a relief.
I was going to buy this motorcycle, I see you won it for me lol
Yea I’m lucky, I had to make a quick decision on it and glad I did. But there are always more bikes out there good luck with the hunt. hopefully I do this bike the justice it deserves.
@@mendingmotos Since today you have a new subscriber, I want to see the process of how you fix it since I couldn't.
@@rafaelbonilla4431 Awesome thanks for the subb! Next video will be the rebuild and then 3rd video will be showing the new fairings i went with, so stay tuned!
To loosen the nuts at 5:33 you need a Steering Stem Nut Socket
Yeah sadly I didn’t have one and the bottom one had pulled up and cross threaded lol but I do have one on order to do the correct tightening :)
@@mendingmotos If you send me your email adress i can send you the full workshop manual of the s1000rr if you dont have it yet ! all assembly, disassembly and torque specs are in there
@@jorikvandammen8870 thanks ! But I already found a one on the s1000rr forum! But yea those things are a must especially with all the weird torque specs …”3nm then 90degrees” just give me a torque number lol
Waiting for the other parts 😊
You nailed it lol!!
Hey there , looking to make similar content , how long have you been working on bikes ?
About 10ish years lol what bike are you going to pick up for your first project ?
@@mendingmotos that’s dope , looking forward to Seeing the content , not sure yet hopefully something as cool as that s1000rr 🔥
@@Cbrmadness_ Thanks! I'd recommend starting on an older bike 08-12 ish so you don't have a lot of electronics to mess with. lol they're a pain lol
good job 🫡
Thanks !!
Good job, I love Triumph for its workmanship and sound, greetings from Poland...you have a sub from me for this😎💪
Yeah they have such a smooth sounds I really have a new favorite.
Really like this format of video, straight to work.. but cmon man 15 min? F.. you for that 😂😂 this is really good, good quality, and good work. Think about making it around the 20 ~ 30 min mark, no longer than that for people who cant focus for long periods of time. You had a fan from the triumph rebuild, and still have with this one. Keep up the good work. Fan from portugal. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks yea it actually makes it easier without the voice over lol and you will have to wait till I get more footage cut down for those longer full completion videos lol
One of my dream bike, sad to see it in that state... Happy to see it rebuilt
Yea it’s def my dream bike as well, super lucky I was able to land this bike at a great deal!
that's a lot of damage
Yea it looked like an easy rebuild....which is never the case lol
Great video, you know of the cyliderhead of a 1050 R 2016 could fit in the 1050 RS 2019?
I’m pretty sure the motors were the same from 16-20 and they just added tech features and carbon fiber but don’t quote me on that lol
@@mendingmotos haha thanks bro, I feel the same but I’m not the mechanic. Finding the cylinderhead for the 18-20 has been really hard. Nice bikes and work on the channel 👍🏼
@@albert1006 thanks! Good luck with the hunt! Also remember to join some triumph parts pages on Facebook you might ask and find something.

This is so underrated glad i came across it. Made my day. Keep it up bud
Wow thanks !! I’ll have a new s1000rr build up soon!

Thanks for watching!!👍
surface under brake discs shouldn't be painted, this can bend your discs
Wo…I had no idea that small of a tolerance mattered! Thanks for the heads up I’ll keep that in mind for the next set of wheels that need an overhaul. Cheers!
What license plate mount is that? I also need a new one
It was a couple small L brackets from ace hardware hahah
Man say me please, what the model manifold, on this bike? Thanks..
Hey yea it’s a M4 gp exhaust here’s a link to it: m4exhaust.com/product/2005-06-suzuki-gsxr-1000-gp-full-system-black/
@@mendingmotos No no man, not jar, i say exhaust manifold ?
Hey yea the header (exhaust manifold) they are the M4 GP exhaust it’s a full system (exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe) the model that on this bike they don’t make anymore, it had a small silencer on but the updated it and removed it.
All that work and you didn’t spend 30$ on a whole new fuel filter NOT the pump sock the fuel filter the whole assembly the fuel pump goes into. Those get plugged super fast and they always get over looked and never replaced. One last thing it’s fuel injected twisting the throttle 1 or 100 times does nothing with key on or off besides open and close the butterflies, it’s not like a carb that squirts gas everytime you hit the gas.
Yeah totally agree, everything was back ordered at the time so I flushed it forwards and backwards as best I could then did the new pump and screen that you saw. And yes I do know about the throttle it is just a habit from older carburetor bikes like my 90 fzr400 or the old gen 1 ninja 250 lol
Also, what size grommets did you install in the rear tail section at 5:07. Looks like you went to Ace hardware for a bunch of screws. That's also the point that I'm at with this build
I think they were 1/4 20 sized not sure on that one and yes ace hardware always has what I need in stock I hate going to Lowe’s or home depot to try to find things because one they’re either all stollen out of the bags or just nothing there at all.
I still cannot figure out what you used. You found a rubber grommet that fit?
I wish I could post a pic of where I'm at
It was similar to these but I found them In the nuts and bolts section: www.acehardware.com/departments/lighting-and-electrical/boxes-fittings-and-conduit/cable-protectors/3472362
Make some videos and post them on your channel there will be some true gsxr pros that will be even more knowledgeable then me lol
Is there rubber that goes between the mirrors and the blue plastic or just between the plastic and the metal frame below?
Just between the metal fairing stay and the plastic it’s the special rubber spacer.
I been looking for the part but haven't found it. I ordered new mirrors so I used the old rubber as the spacer for in-between the frame and plastic. The new mirrors have their own rubber piece
