Great review. I like that you showed the product in use. I just ordered one for many of the same reasons you described. Your review helped justify the splurge. The key thing for me was how compact it is to keep in the trunk without impacting my cargo space.
thanks man! it’s surprisingly powerful for how small it is
For an 18v it put up a helluva battle. The s3 came out on top but maybe next time with some power mods the Ryobi will come out on top. Seriously though, why not just leaf blow like the rest of us?
I may need to start looking into forced induction for the Ryobi 😆 I ended up picking this up over a normal leaf blower though for a few reasons. I wanted something compact that I can keep in the trunk and bring to these touchless washes, I already had a battery because I’ve got a Ryobi lawn mower, and I’ve actually been getting some good use out of it inside the car with blowing dirt/crumbs out of cracks and crevices that my shop vac won’t get haha
@@JayChesterman if you don't stop with these logical uses I may end up picking one up myself haha
@@A_Guy123 hahah as I mentioned though I do think it’s overkill (and a bit expensive) especially if you already have a leaf blower I didn’t have a leaf blower so it also doubles as my leaf blower, and it’s going to come in really handy in the winter as a portable snow remover with the car
I think in a fight between the Audi S3 and the Ryobi, the Audi is gonna win. Will update my comment on if I’m right or not 🙏🙏 Edit: I think I may have misinterpreted the title
hahaha can confirm, the s3 edged it out
First. How was leg day?
it was sickening brother hahah
WHY bro? Everyone that knows an Audi.. will know "AFTERMARKET".. the S3 looks good DON'T do a "Wal-Mart Audi"
are you saying I shouldn’t do a front lip, or I should not cheap out in price?

yooo where did you find honeycomb grill with a hole for that huge sensor on the 8v??? been looking online for sooo long but i only find for 8y :(
@@Shortkingjrr iGroundAuto.ca but I had to have my sensor relocated because the hole in the grill was too high and it didn’t line up
@@JayChesterman ahh ok, thanks. ill look into it😊👍
Personally i would go with the iGround front lip if I was in your position. I have a EMD carbon front lip, it’s awesome and durable even in New Jersey winter.
Thanks for the input man! Do you daily drive the car throughout the winter? I think our winters are similar to yours where I’m at
did you buy it new or used?
I bought used, I’d never buy a brand new Audi because of how fast they depreciate in the first few years, but the car only had 21k km on it when I got it
@@JayChesterman thanks for your reply - how many miles do you think you’ll get out of her? I’ve got an a3 sportback but looking to upgrade to a saloon s or rs in the future.
I can’t say haha but I’ve put about 40,000 km so far, 30,000 km while stage 2 tuned (it’s not a lot but all I have to go off so far) and the car has been perfect, these cars have shown to be reliable as far as I know as long as you keep up with the maintenance

13L/100? WTF, dude? I've got 2014 and it says 8.2L/100, and reports on the app (I use Fuelio) say 8.4L/100. Stock tho. And I drive quite enthusiastically.
do you do any highway driving at all? 99% of my driving is in town and short trips, so i'm basically getting close to the worse possibly mileage you can get out of the car haha
@@JayChesterman Mostly around town, but like once or twice a week I go to the uni, circa 40km one way. EDIT: On longer trips (like to the uni) I would get like 6.6-7,5L/100, driving rather gently. Still not highway tho, just from town to town, with 50/70km/h speeds. I live in a small town with 170k people. Today I was in a really big city (750k) and traffic there is just a clusterfuck, and I got 8.0 from 127km long trip. If I lived in such big city, driving around downtown would be hellish, with like 9L/100 easily lol
@@OfficialAnekito for sure haha my trips are usually 5-10 minutes max day to day as well which really kills economy I also have a heavy foot just because I like to hear the intake and turbo sounds 🤣
@@JayChesterman Given you've got yours on stage 2, it is, well, reasonable that you get 13/100 with heavy foot :D Wish you many mappy miles and smiles, brother :D
@@OfficialAnekito you too, thanks for watching!
Hello do you know the turbo pressure? Thanks best regards
i just pulled up a log i did last season on my current tune and based off of my calculations it looks to be around 29-30 PSI peak boost.
Question. It appears that your tach redlines at 7k, which is what IE's ECU tune says it's supposed to be at, correct? "Factory rev limits have been raised to 7000RPM in all stages." I'm running stage 1 ECU and their TCU tune for the DSG and my revlimiter stayed at the stock 6,700 RPM. I'm just wondering if mine was also supposed to change to 7k RPM, and if not, maybe I need to re-flash it or contact them and see what's up if that's the case. Thanks!
yeah mines 7k now, I’d reach out to IE - from my experience they’re support is pretty responsive during the week, but I have a feeling they’ll ask you reflash how are you liking stage 1?
@@JayChesterman I’ll do that. I saw on some older forums that they said it should change, but they’re all different so maybe it just didn’t change for my TCU. Appreciate it!
i just took a look over a log i have and my max RPM is 6939.75 i do notice during spirited driving the car will shift before then though even if i rev it out, but i think at full throttle it'll rev out to that 6939.75
@@JayChestermanI tested mine on the way to work today and it shifts around 6,500RPM even floored. I did get it to rev out through the 6,700RPM redline to about 6,900RPM, but only in manual mode.
the license plate on the side does affect aerodynamics quite a bit, my father is an aerospace aerodynamic engineer and he chuckled when I showed him that, if you're striving for the best performance it should be in the center of the grille, this side position creates extra drag and turbulence that will hurt speed/acceleration and handling.
that never occurred to me haha does he think it would effect 0-60 or quarter mile times? i love the look of the grill without a plate so much that i think i'm willing to sacrifice that bit of performance thanks for watching!
@@JayChesterman It will affect everything but the more you push it the more it will. Imagine putting your hand out of the window when you go 100mph thats what its doing. I know it looks great without but it does hurt the performance of the car. Im in the EU so we´re mandated to have the plate positioned in spots by the manufacturer. If you like it then sure but from an expert point of view its counterproductive for optimal performance.
@@JayChesterman His dad here, the position and size of your car plate creates circular vortices around and behind your plate. This disrupts airflow and thus creates drag that impeded aerodynamic performance. The drag coeficient of a car ,especially a sports audi isnt as detrimental as on a mclaren or ferrari but it will still create a bottleneck for your car. I understand the grille is beautiful but remember that more drag makes worse fuel efficiency, forces the engine to work harder to achieve speeds and creates air disturbance and thus makes aerodynamic elements of your car less efficient.
thank you for the information!
As a German, I think it looks very bad having the plate at the side. Can't understand how you think it looks better in any way
Looks nice, how's the maintenance cost on one of these?
the maintenance hasn’t been bad, the biggest cost will be the DSG (transmission) maintenance, I purchased Audis maintenance package though and it’s covered my last 3 services including the big dsg one, and will include one more service at 75k outside of the dsg service it’s just your usual oil and fluids, and will cost the same as a golf gti / golf r more or less
@@JayChesterman I see, very good to know since the Audi's look very nice
@@jiroup7390 the a3/s3 are different than any of the models above it (4,5 etc) because it shares an engine with a lot of Volkswagen vehicles
We need to normalize not referring to everything in “stages” if u got a stage 2 tune just say it’s tuned and then bring up the “tuners name stage X” if someone asks, like it sounds like yall talking about gta tbh
valid point, I usually do break it down (stage 2 tuned with IE, meaning intake, downpipe, tune) but with shorts the videos need to be super condensed or else they don’t get watched
Yeah just let me buy a v8 audi real quick. whoops im broke
8v is the generation, this one is a 4 cylinder unfortunately 😆
I’m gonna install my rs3 grille this week.. how long did it take you?
I had my local indie Audi/vw shop install it, if you have the cruise control sensor in the front of the car you’ll most likely need to relocate the sensor because it doesn’t line up with the cutout on the grill
The grill change is a must in my opinion. Should have came like that.
100% agree!
Get a v8 or audi ttrs with 5 cylinder. The issue is you went v6. Best sounding engines are 5, 8, and 10+.
@@MikoMuru rs3 is the dream
I can deal with that lol
@@adamo80nine Me too 🤣
When you go to Stage 2, will a car like this pass the local required smog test? Or do you have to back it down to stock again to pass a smog test?
I’m not sure unfortunately, here in Canada where I’m at we dont need to do emissions testing anymore
have u had any problems with it other then the annoying waterpump?
no issues at all besides a slow coolant leak that I caused by not tightening a clamp enough when I installed the intake, water pump hasn’t broke yet (fingers crossed haha)
Car looks so good and sounds amazing! Looking forward to mod my S3 and make some noise 😂 Stage 2 wont require bigger intercooler?
if you live in a hot place you should do an intercooler, I’ve only ever noticed some power loss maybe once on a really hot day after doing some pulls but we have so many months of cool and cold weather here where I live
Awesome set up bro. I have a '18 S3 too in Canada. Would be interested to know the price of all your mods going from stock to stage 1 and then stage 1 to stage 2. Cheers!
thanks man! i'll put together a video in the next few weeks breaking it all down
I mean it looks quick...kind of like a toyota corolla GR... still not sold on it. I'd rather a c63 w204.
c63 w204 is a beast! a clean used s3 can be had and modded to run high 11 / low 12's in the quarter mile for half the price though haha
Two totally different class of cars,
@@_NB233 yep, I don’t imagine there’s much cross shopping between the two haha
2:28 cop jumpscare
i had intended on ripping that road too 😂
I’m thinking about getting an s3 (facelift) sometime in august/September, any tips on what I should look for? And how do you feel about getting a higher km s3 70-110kms
you should be good, i personally would try to find under 100k km but make sure you're able to get the maintenance history for the car, maintenance is really important on these cars (making sure oil, dsg services etc are all done on time) another thing to look out for would be to see if the water pump has been done or not, if it's not been replaced and it's a higher km car there's a better chance you'll run into the issue
@@JayChesterman yup I have a Jetta myself and I did the water pump, dsg service all that good stuff. Just want a fun car tbh I have a tdi right now which is great on gas but I’m young I’m trying to have some good fun with a faster car haha. I appreciate you replying my man I’ll let you know when I end up getting it
let me know! you will absolutely love the s3 if you're able to pick one up - i also support having a fun car while you're young if you're able to haha
I made the jump from a 7.5r to an RS3(in mythos black and with grey wheels lol) and its definitely worth the extra money. Granted I was going to be doing a turbo/fueling uprgade on the R, bbk and subframe stuff so it just made sense to upgrade. That being said, I am now looking to get even more out of the RS3 so I may build the engine and go FF or a g80 might be in my future lol Also, make sure you have the fake engine sounds turned off
damn, downpipes and a tune isn't enough for you with the rs3?? you're a speed demon brother lol that's the same spec i'd want (mythos black grey wheels, as you can probably tell from the video) when i bought my previous car (2019 ss 1le camaro), i had a tuned toyota 86 and was looking at going down the supercharger route, and after pricing it out it made more sense to just buy a faster car haha so i understand the logic
@@JayChesterman You always get used to the speed and want a little more. Sometimes you have to just tell yourself enough is enough. It’s always a better value to just buy the faster car, but sometimes the journey of really modifying a car is more fun
@@Kujashin 100%! The journey with the s3 so far has been a blast

i haven't hit the strip yet, i'm planning to do so this summer and will def make a video similar setups are running high 11s / low 12s for the 1/4 mile though, it'll be interesting to see where i'm at!
Nice build 😌
thank you! my goal has always been to keep it simple and i'm really happy with where it's at now, but i'm considering doing a front splitter - just not sure which one yet
@@JayChesterman looking forward to seeing that aswel, thanks for the inspo on the build. About to pull the trigger on a 2019 white one. Have bad roads here in South Africa so the wheel strategy is looking like the way to go. Blessings your way ✌️
yeah I’d def recommend going with 18 inch wheels and a meaty tire, you’re going to love the car!
@@JayChesterman have a look at the maxton v3 splitter
I love the look of them, but I’ve heard of a lot of people who have had theirs break over the winter here (we get a decent amount of show) and I’m too lazy to pull it off every season haha I was looking at the flow designs one, it has a really secure mounting system
Cool car man! where did you get the tow hook plate holder? any sensor issue? thank you!
thank you Paul! I got the plate holder from eosplates.com - i had to fiddle with the positioning for a while but there's no sensor issues now, it was definitely finicky though and took some playing around to find the sweet spot haha
what year was the s3?
2020, it’s an 8v facelift
I have an rs3, its worth spending the extra money
how has maintenance been in terms of cost of ownership?
Stock RS3 any day of the week. I can tune the RS3 when I get more budget down the line and it still has so much potential. Not so much headroom w/ already 2nd stage S3
very true, you're at the end of the line in terms of reliable power at stage 2 IMO, it can be done but you're for sure pushing the stock internals if you go any further (hybrid turbo etc) fingers crossed the car market gods are in my favour in the next two years for 8v s3 prices :D
RS3 for the sound
Id just get a mk7 golf R
solid choice! i'm a huge fan of both the gti and r, can't go wrong with either
A few thousand and a tune on the rs3 and the S3 wouldn't touch it
absolutely, the rs3 platform is on another level
ill take the rs3 dont want a golf R 😂

Not only de engine you stupid de brakes the handling off the car is different en top speed and higher speeds are the differents
