Harry Caray Feature

Bob Costas sits down with Harry Caray to talk about this life and Hall of Fame broadcasting career.
💯♥️
Costas is the antithesis of Caray ..i.e., a misanthropic, know-it-all, elitist, who reserves a particular degree of contempt for the "average Joe"/"fan"
The 50th Anniversary special on channel 9 I got the complete show with commercials 7-24-94. 2 hours. 50 years in broadcasting. A Legend!
Wow. The fans. What do the fans think. How original.
Back when all sports were fun. And little bobby costas didn't spout his politics. Half of The USA doesn't agree with little bobby. And probably more agree that, "I paid a boatload of money, I just want to watch the game." Doesn't matter which sport. Tennis, wrestling, hockey, football, the olympics, etc........
How tough is it to be decent to people. Harry pulled it off.

A Great American!
Costas just wants to hear someone say a tranny is good looking.
We won't see or hear a Man, yes, a Real Man, like this in sports broadcasting ever again. I'm not a baseball fan, since the 80's. Way too corporate and safe now. No Thank you.
A legend interviewed by a turd.
This man sent a lot of joy to a 90s teenager during the Summers on WGN. I miss you Harry. You're a legend and will live on forever.
It doesn't surprise that most announcers steal there material from the other. The Yankees guy really helped himself to a bunch of stuff.
bob costas before he became a woke slave
I haven't seen him in years.
The Questions produced by the news guy are training they receive to bring out the true feelings and perspectives of a individual, but also hopefully they will get something to leave the listening public that will keep them tuning in to your employers goals.Good, bad, interesting and humorous
For many fans of baseball, it's the announcer who brings them the game. Harry Caray not only brought the game; he brought great joy to the game.
It was the joy that brought us all back again and again. You nailed it. His banter was wonderful. WGN for me as a child was playing in the background of my house.
I was never a Cub fan but I loved Harry Carry - and still do -
I happen to have not watched a baseball game since Harry died. As a kid, I started as a Sox fan. When Harry moved to the Cubs, I became a Cubs fan. Turns out I was a Harry fan. He was hilarious.
Harry, Jimmy, and Falstaff. Need I say more?
What a great man
I can remember the first time I heard Harry call a game. This was a day game of course because it was before they added lights to Wriggly. Harry must have been drinking because I could not believe how badly he was speaking. I asked my friend if he was mentally challenged it was that bad. Then he explained that’s Harry, on a hot day he’d drink a bit too much Bud and he started slurring. Later I became used to it and appreciated his history in the game.
Will Farrell does a better job at being Harry Caray
I'm from NYC but what I've seen of Harry Carey is to admire & love him 👍👍
What did Skip think about him
I was 10 when the disco night fireworks happened. It was a special night.
Costas is a twink commie
I actually did say when the Cubs won the world series in 2016 it would have been awesome to hear Harry caray say the Cubs won the world series. I did say now he can rest in peace.
We remember Harry, we remember
As a Brewers fan, I may not be a Cub person myself but I can't hate on Harry.
I miss this guy. I remember watching many a Cub game on WGN with my grandfather back in the 80s during my school summer break.
I watched this a few times, just love it. Two of my favorite baseball people of all time. As a kid in Iowa in the ‘60s I tolerated very scratchy radio to hear Harry from St Louis, then moved to western Michigan in 1977 and was a regular with Harry at Comiskey for the next few years. Deeply loved him from the ‘60s to the end of his career. I only paid attention to the Cubs later because of him. Thanks Bob for your usual perfect interviews.
Sounds like Jimmy Stewart was a Texas tinge.
This is a wonderful interview. Thanks
Loved Harry! Big part of my life as a kid and a baseball fan...sure miss those days..so carefree compared to nowadays. Holly Cow where did the years go?
Harry was right the Cubs team won a World Series too bad harry Carey wasn’t there to see it
Two things that Harry Caray said came true in 2016. "Sure as God made green apples, some day, the Chicago Cubs are going to be in a World Series." And, at the end of this interview, he said, "Somewhere along the line, somebody will remember me and say, 'Gee, the Cubs just won the world championship. Boy, isn't it a shame Harry's not here to see it." Growing up with him on TV and radio, I definitely thought of Harry on those occasions in 2016
15:15 Harry Caray or no Harry Caray, If he he made a crack like that today he'd be shit-canned Unfortunately.
Chicago Cubs i need you help i am Daniel Franco Jr Bill Madlock gave me my trophie and a ball with his autograph and i never had sex since Juanita Alcantar Talavera took off with my Daughters
U are skrewed
I listened to every St. Louis Cardinals game in the seasons of '67 & '68. Harry Caray and Jack Buck were wonderful, never to be topped by any other broadcast team in my book. I've heard many, many others over the years.
Mlb has forgotten the fan. Salaries too high, tickets too high for fans. An average fan can't afford season tickets and it's not by a small margin
Reds fan as a kid I loved watching any game, Harry Carey was a huge part of my childhood watching Cubs games on the Superstation when the Reds weren’t on tv.
THE MAN
Budweiser beer is actually disgusting. Maybe it was okay back then. Maybe.
Just the sound of his voice takes me back to my childhood in Chicago..
The two greatest lovers of baseball, in terms of broadcasters, are on this video. Costas could've done the same as Harry, if he so chose. But he went and stayed national. I don't know if it was after this special was made, that Harry invited Bob Costas to eat at his restaurant, or another time they got together. But that evening, at like 4am, Bob asked Harry:. What's it all about Harry? Harry's response? Booze, broads, baseball and bullshit, Bob! What a life this man enjoyed.
I would get home from school every weekday by the 4th to the 6th inning. Spark a bowl, hang out with friends listening to this man and watching the Cubbies. What a great time to be young.
Degenerate
Hayden was such a bigger balled man then Kirk
Hayden Fry, a true Texan. "New York City?" Ha!
What a wonderful man and announcer. He really understood that the average fan just wanted to be let in, and there was no announcer better at letting in the fan, all of us, in on the great game of baseball.
