Old school routing with guide bushes
I would like to thank my brother George Johnstone, as he help make the original template using cad. At the time around 1993 robots were very expensive. So this is how we overcame not having endless money and time. We had gone to the local printer to get a full size print but they were unable to print a cad file, they could only print out a Corel drawing , which might have not printed to scale. That and the $200 price tag at the time to print made us rethink how to do it. So gridlines were added to the original cad drawings so when the cad file was printed on a standard sheet of paper they could be lined up and taped together, cut out and then glued down onto mdf.

Setting festool domino df 500 with a feeler gauge

A better way to trim overhanging veneer off the side of laminated panels. When I make a door or shelf I make it to exact size. I do not trim on the saw. Because the veneer overhang prevents lining it up to trim as it never stays exactly in place when pressing. I will make future videos on solid edge then laminating faces such as seen of the shelf being trimmed. One of the benefits to making exa...

      Yes when one hand is occupied with a task and you go to get a pen,pencil or knife to do the second operation,the whole nine yards come with it. You also no longer have to hold your pocket with one hand to steady it for pen replacement. Also the snap prevents the protector from falling out when you are bending over

    So you mean to tell me even a 20” jointer isn’t enough?

    • @pro-woodworking-tips
      @pro-woodworking-tips 2 місяці тому

      It seems at first it is not, but the technique shown will get you to maybe 40” if you use both sides of the jointer to overhang your board. To which I have grinded down the other side of the casting to do just that. If you mounted the power feeder with no obstruction of the board, you could theoretically go as wide as you wanted. Each successive pass of ten inches clears way for those ten inches of resting on the infeed table creating another ten inches of flat. So in fact a 20" jointer is all you need. The shop has not had a large enough board that this machine has not flattened

    Very clever, haven't seen that before. How do you prevent the little plate from sliding? Double sided tape or something? Edit oh I see, you have a little lip at the back end of the plate. Very clever!

      I had screwed and glued a block onto the end, but I am careful to inspect it for wear and tear. It has been ripped apart before and the screws can be dragged forward towards the cutter block. On the Felder line of jointers only have around 6mm of depth of cut so the board is thin. On past jointers I could almost use a ½ Inch thick pieces of mdf. So the screws would not pull through as easily.

    • @pro-woodworking-tips

      No, when you are using more than 1 domino at a time, alignment can be difficult to get your parts assembled. Referencing exact position on odd shapes such as on those curved pieces are hard to match up. More square and linear are not as much of an issue. On the other hand when making a cabinets you might have 10 or more dominoes in a row and what I do is put the small holes on 1 piece and larger ones on the other because trying to assemble requires a lot of force and you have to push the piece in parallel vs ,I use a little angle to get 1 to start and then push the pieces together When I make chairs, I can use a double domino using the pins as a second placement but that machine is no longer available.

      @@twandieltjes1359 The Original domino came with pins instead of the hinged block they use today. The pins were a patent infringement, so they stop selling that model 10 yeas or so ago. You could put the pin inside a cut domino using it as a reference and get another precision placement. Hence when making the seat surround on a chair I put double dominoes in a piece around 2.5 Inches in width.

    How straight was the board before you put it through the jointer? Did you joint the slab before hand to get it relatively flat?

    • @pro-woodworking-tips
      @pro-woodworking-tips 3 роки тому

      Did the whole board just on the jointer, no hand plane Large boards like this typically have a 1/8 to1/4 hump in the middle width and a slight twist in the length. When dealing with a crown I position power feeder wheels directly over that section and use a wedge on one side to keep it balanced then once it gets onto the outfeed table and feeder it normally stays in that position for the whole length. Other ways are to go for a maximum depth cut and place leading edge of board on outfeed table to remove long bend.

  • @fernandog.aguirre2791
    @fernandog.aguirre2791 4 роки тому

    Why you are using a power feeder and then you are pushing the board too. Don't you should adjust the power feeder lower so it can track down better?

    • @pro-woodworking-tips
      @pro-woodworking-tips 4 роки тому

      When I made the video I could have done better on setup, such as waxing bed, aligning feeder to the upright fence and perhaps a little more pinch between feeder and table. That being said the board weighed 120 lbs. Normally in a planer the infeed rollers are serrated and full width and really get a good grip. This power feeder only has smooth rubber wheels 2 inch wide so you see them spinning when it cannot overcome the mass of the board. Since the board is rough and long it overhangs the infeed table and sometime hangs up at the front of the table. If you ever tried to joint a ten or twelve foot 20”wide board by yourself you will find it very difficult to apply downward pressure while try to push it forward. It’s a two to three man job. Check out these guys doing just that ua-cam.com/video/PQC_0j2tz4s/v-deo.html
