And I did that right up until the 8. of September where I skipped one week as work had ramped up, cycling felt like a chore. So I decided to not do the usual this year when visiting Mallorca. What was full cost of your bike build?
Around 6.000 euros
One of your best ones yet 👌🏼 Mallorca is just amazing in spring/fall
Thank you very much! Yeah Mallorca is the best haha
Dope video👌can't wait to leave cold and rainy Germany in a few weeks to ride my bike in the south!
Thanks buddy. Where are you going?
Way to go.. Feel the burn but let those pedals turn. 😁🚴🇵🇭
Hell yeah my dude
Lovely bike❤!
Thanks!
You should come up to Örebro/central sweden and i'll show you some proper gravel in the deep woods.
Would be sick!
Are there any cool gravel events or rides happening in Copenhagen between 7-14 October? I will be in town and I would love to do some fun rides
Hmm not really sure. I'll be traveling to Mallorca. But maybe check out Copenhagen Cycling Club or Pas Normal, they might have something for you.
Epic! Congrats!
Thanks!
Cool video. Thank you. Your opinions echo mine. I’ll be using just one bike for the upcoming season or two and grizl is on top of my priority list.
Good choice! Really been enjoying only having to deal with one bike
Can I ask what your measurements are and the size of the bike you chose? I'm about to buy an S, but I’m 164 cm / 78 cm inseam, and Canyon recommends an XS, but I feel like the XS is TOO small. Maybe I should get the S?
Hmm not really sure. Maybe Canyon are better at helping you out here. I am 183 cm. don't know my inseam but mine was a size medium. Probably could have ridden a large but I think it would feel way too big
A night ride demo would be sweet. ;)
Good idea! I might consider that ✌️
Hi Tobias, as we are in lovely fall weather I also started my research on front lights. 🍂🌞 Rear light is pretty much done, it is always Varia for me, but jesus the front lights market is horible... Im also leaning towards Bookman, nice knob adjusting, can run while charging, gopro mount. So what is your verdict now that you have it for a while? Does it point straight when mounted on garmin/gopro mount?
I really enjoy my Bookman. It seems like a premium product with the adjusting knob and overall build quality. And yes mine points straight when mounted on go pro mount :)
Nice to hear what you think, i might go with the same solution as i also want to spend 70% of my time gravel riding. What should i look for in gear changers, is electronic best for gravel also? or should i go for mechanical.
I would definitely go for electronic as it for me as been the most reliable on gravel. But it of course depends on your budget :)
@@tobiasTbager Nice to hear that, Ive got mechanical right now, but every 500-800km my gear cable snaps from the dirt getting in there. While it is cheap to fix, its just annoying haha. Glad to hear that electronic is realiable on gravel too!
@andreas2862 That’s the exact reason I converted to Electronic. And I’ve now ridden 8.000 kilometers on my crux with no problem
@@tobiasTbager thats so nice to hear, already made my mind up. Good luck in your next races, and keep the content up its really good.
@@andreas2862 Thanks a lot buddy!
Hvor nemt er det at skifte til road setup? og tilbage. hvor lang tid bruger du ca på det når du skal afsted
2 minutter maks. Skal bare tage, Gravel hjulsæt af og sætte landevej på og så lige pumpe dækkene
Would you use this bike for a long 100-200 mile gravel race?
Yes without a doubt. But it’s not where this bike excels
I race a SRAM Giant Revolt because its very comfortable and can take a 53mm tire. Gravel races - at least here in the US, are endurance competitions. The Crux is without a doubt a much sharper handling bike - in my opinion, its an awesome all-road bike. The best.
hey tobias, hvordan planlægger du dine ruter?
Hey! Faktisk så napper jeg de fleste af mine ruter fra venner og bekendte 😅 Men har hørt en del godt om Komoot, ellers har jeg også selv brugt både Strava og Garmin
Best video explaining why Crux is DO-IT-ALL bike (Road + Gravel), I bought 2024 Crux S-Works (after Demoing Giant/Cannondale/Cervelo) and love it so much. Also one point it's SO LIGHT that it goes really fast, my S-Works is 16.75 (Tubeless + Pedal + Transfer SL 70mm). It's so good that I have stopped riding my other 3 bikes, I also took it on extreme trail - that was mistake Gravel bikes are not for trail. Best Trail bike I have ever ridden is Latest Specialized Epic 8 Pro/S-Works, it's better than my Spur. Specialized has best bikes in each category, also lightest.
Thanks buddy!
Thanks for making this. I just built a crux because I wanted more tire clearance, but I was sad to see it was still limited to 42c when I set it up with my rival 2x. I will totally try the rival wide!
How cool man! I'm not promising anything but so far my setup with the 47 mm tyres is great
That is a really great set up, I was thinking of swapping to a 2x in the front as well, but the 43/30 would not bring to much value over the 40t chainring I currently have. I would like to try and replicate your set up, can you please tell me exactly what bottom bracket and front derailleur you use? Also can you confirm that you have enough space in the back for 47mm tires? Thanks so much!
First of all it depends on what bike you have and maybe also what size you have so be mindful of that. But with the crux in a size 56 I have the ‘original’ 43/30 sram wide bottom bracket and front derailleur. Only thing I’ve changed is the crankset on the drivetrain side. Left pedal arm is the same as that is the one who makes the setup “wide”. So maybe also be mindful if this setup is possible to replicate if you don’t have the SRAM rival. Don’t know if it works with force or red the same way
Love the setup man
Thanks man!
Why the gillet under the jersey if it's 36 degrees? I'm cooking with a gillet under already at 15 degrees.
Rookie mistake haha. No but I also really like the feeling of having some undershirt underneath my jersey
@@tobiasTbager Understandable! Thanks for a nice video
@@Rubbart Thanks for watching man! Really appreciate it!
What was your bike set up (chainring / cassette)? Last time I went to Italy (Rome, Norma, Rocca Massima, Lago di Nemi, Lago Albano) I took my Crux with the stock set up (40T chainring / 11-42 cassette). Wish I would've had a road set up. The riders I met wanted to show me around (destroy my legs). I'm from Miami...ZERO elevation. I mostly suffered from cramping.
Hey Victor, Thanks for sharing your setup, sounds like a cool trip! I was running the crux with a 48/35 in the front paired with a 10-36 tooth cassette, and I use this for both road and gravel.
I'm from Bergamo, Selvino is my favourite climb!!!!
Cool! I think it’s my favorite Bergamo climb as well
I would die in 39c of heat (according to your strava). Beautiful shots, but as a Dane those temperatures would absolutely end me. Great idea to ride in all black ;)
Haha yeah, the heat was no joke. Honestly for some reason I only brought black clothes :D
voice is quite good, what did you use to record, i thought it would be a lot of wind
@@zohaibisrunning Thanks for noticing man! I always have a windcover on my Go pro. Very cheap - just a piece of foam
@@tobiasTbager i did an Oslo to Stockholm bike trip on my own first time ever, ended up with bad sound from my insta360 😃 I do plan to upload some of it with some voice overs may be. Thanks for the tip, will try
😂😂😂
beautiful shots !
Thanks man!
Beautiful riding area. Back pain likely caused by tight hamstrings and glutes pulling on the posterior chain.
Thanks for the input man! But honestly I’m pretty damn flexible in the hamstrings and glutes. I might think that I need some more strength in some stabilizing muscles of the lower back instead. But then again I ain’t no expert at all 😅
Actually just put a longer stem on my bike, which somehow seems to delay the lock up a bit 🤷♂️
@@tobiasTbager That might be causing you to rotate your pelvis anteriorly, which is straightening out your lumbar spine and reducing the load on your disks. I'm no bike fitter, but have had all of the problems you mention. I now ride with pelvis rotated forwards to put more weight on the pubic rami. The quadratus lumborum and IT band can also be a source of lower back pain and there are stretches for that too. Your hands should also be just floating on the hoods when pedaling under load. If you have too much pressure, then the upper back will not be relaxed and the lower back will then also be tense. Increasing the saddle setback often fixes this. Setback is the most tricky thing to get right, but it often is the source of not being relaxed on the bike.
@bengt_axle Thanks! Yeah I have a lot of trouble getting the setback right, as I also have a lot of pressure on the hands. But it seems like the back pain gets worse when I increase the setback. There I’ve gone to the compromise with the saddle being a bit more forward and a longer stem. This helps with the back but the hands do obviously get a bit more pressure as a result of this
Virkelig godt arbejde med videos!!!
Takker!
Thanks for sharing...I will test this route next year with a friend...my new Crux works like a beast too by the way 🙂
Sounds cool! What frame and group set did you go with for the crux?
@@tobiasTbager Yeah. What a rocket 🙂...I bought the "complete bike" 2023 Crux Expert in "gloss carbon/tarmac black" with complete Rival AXS 12g, 10-44 Z and Roval Terra C...added a Elite Ciussi bottleholder. and will modify the Cockpit with some Carbon too for better damping + Deda yellow handlebar tape or red...I am not absolutely sure...I love that bike from the first ride. You helped me a lot with that decision (Grizl vs Crux)...thx again!
@SvenfromKiel Sounds sick! Happy to help man
I’m confused with the new crux is it a cx bike or gravel
Great question! I don’t really think there is a hard line between what a gravel bike is. To me a gravel bike is a road bike with big tires. With that being said there is a lot of differences between how different gravel bikes handle the terrain. A traditional CX bike is fairly twitchy and easy to maneuver where a gravel bike on the other hand often is more stable and has a bigger tire clearance. The “new” crux is a CX bike that has gotten some of the characteristics from a gravel bike, like a bit more stable handling and wider tyre clearance. Or at least that’s how I understand it. I only bought my crux to ride road and gravel. No intention to do cyclocross :)
@@tobiasTbager definitely want one one day
Just a bike
Great work mate! What camera are you using to shot this?
Everything that I’ve filmed in this video was captured on my iPhone and go pro. But for this project Maap also send out a videographer to make some content for them. And he was kind enough to share some of that footage with me. And that footage was filmed on a Sony a7 siii. But that’s only the start and some clips in the end. The rest is my iPhone and go pro
Hiphip!
I love my Crux ...iconic bike and such a fun bike to ride !!
Agreed!
Did you tried to do some bikepacking with Crux? I am planning some bp trip but I am little concerned about if the bike is capable of handling cca 10-13kg of luggage. Also dont you have experience with paint abrasion from the velcro straps (of the bags), should I use protective foil? Thanks a lot!
No I haven’t yet but my brother has. Not sure about how much weight it can take. But most bikes can handle about 100 kg of whole system weight, including you (depending on where you mount stuff I guess). For the Velcro straps I always use som electrical tape all the places any straps could rub the frame
@@tobiasTbager Thank you very much!
@dominiksulak1655 Anytime my man 🤝
Looks like a beautiful place to ride. SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL
It’s the best ☀️
Have you ever been?
@@tobiasTbager Not yet. I might be more likely to go to mainland Spain instead (maybe cheaper? Simpler?)
@FT__Bicycling_____-sc7yv Cool! I don’t know how the flight prices and stuff are where you are based. But one of the reasons we keep coming back to Mallorca is actually because it’s often one of the cheapest places to go to and often also the simplest as the island isn’t too big. So typically it’s no more than 40 minutes to an hour in a cab to get to a nice location. But if you’re considering mainland I can highly recommend Girona (flying to Barcelona) and I also have a couple of mates that love going to Calpe (flying to Alicante) a lot of pro teams also tend to stay there during the winter as the weather tends to be pretty stable ☀️
@@tobiasTbager Yeah I think place like Calpe and others along the southern coast look great. For me the issue is since I'm out in southeast asia, during the winter I go to Chiang Mai and it's great there.. So I don't feel much need so far to go to Spain. But... lately it's been tough riding in the spring in numerous places because it is really smoky from agricultural burning.
Same thing for me but I found and love my Factor LS with 2 wheelsets and Ultregra di2 12speed.
Also a great setup! No problems with chain slaps over rough terrain?
@@tobiasTbager Not so much actually. I was thinking the same and that I'd switch out the rear derailleur for the clutched grx version that would eventually come out later. But, I haven't had enough of a problem that I need to take action. Perhaps it's just the assortment of gravel I have locally isn't rocky enough.
@KevinMatassa If it ain’t broke don’t fix it 🤷♂️
I love these longer videos! Glad I found the channel ;)
Thanks man - I'm glad you found it too!
It seems to be a really nice and fast route. No cars and really nice gravel. I'll have to try out the route when I'm in Sweden. 🤟🏻
Hell yeah! The gravel up there is unreal. I think we met 3 cars on gravel roads in the 15 hours of riding we did. It was amazing
@@tobiasTbagerSounds perfect to me. Had a similar experience in denmark a few weeks ago. The gravel was unreal. Big and sharp stones. Is there a Strava Route from you guys available?
@NLAS_Cycling Sick! Where in Denmark was that? Yeah just find me on Strava as: Tobias Bager If I remember I will also include a link in the description tomorrow 😁
@@tobiasTbager There are a few gnarly gravel sections on my tour from Flensburg to Hemmet. However, the route is very mixed terrain wise. But if you want, you can also ride the route with less asphalt. This was for convenience reasons only, had some time pressure that day. I will ride the optimized tour again as soon as I have recovered. You can find the tour on Strava NLAS // TEAM CUSWHAT and go from there. The video to the tour is on my UA-cam channel, if you want to check out first.
That sounds cool I’ll definitely check it out!
lol I am doing the exact same swap right now - Canyon is fun but man is it hard to find stock parts because they refuse to sell them
Haha nice! Did you also both have the Aeroad and Grizl?
Same thoughts here. I have a Grizl and because of the wide clearance, slick road tires are weird on it. Thinking to switch to the new Grail, 2by groupset and two pairs of wheelset. Like you, I prefer gravel rides and road is just for training. One bike to do it all.
Cool man! I mean I wouldn’t mind having the Grizl as my do it all bike, but there is of course more suitable options. One of my best mates has the new grail with a 2by setup as a do it all bike. He loves it 😁
@@tobiasTbager How wide road tires would you put on it? I am looking at the grizl aluminium to get started (price). Also if I want to go bikepacking trips. would you say its worth top get a carbon version over the aluminium?
@jacobpedersen2368 I went with a 30 mm. But considering going even wider Nah man just go for aluminum get a feel for it. Makes the upgrade to carbon even more sweet down the line. I think people buy to expensive too fast
@@tobiasTbager thanks! This will def. help me choose. Maybe ill see you on the road, ride on! :)

Nobody really cares what you think.
I actually have 2 gravel bike. A Cervelo aspero which I got during covid era cos it was the only one in my size I could get…and I wanted Not to be on the road as much as possible. Had 2 wheelsets, gravel and road. And now I have a Ritchey Outback. pretty full on gravel. Love both bikes. Aspero set up as a road bike now. It’s an odd set up for the 2 bikes but it works for me. I don’t race or go fast, it’s about the long miles when I recover from some real bad back issues.
That’s so cool! I’ve also been thinking about having two gravel bikes 😂 One for winter and rainy conditions and one for racing 😈
@@tobiasTbager aspero is a racer. But there are others out there. Would have gotten a Giant revolt but nothing in stock at that time, hence the aspero
Great video 🙂 I'm with you all the way. Last year I sold an Argon 18 road bike and and a Scott addict gravel while holding on to my S-Works Crux. I've had it repainted and upgraded to an electronic groupset plus bought an extra wheelset. It's worked like a dream. Only problem is: I recently crashed and broke the frame 😞 Right now I'm stuck with a 20 years old winterbike and a 10 year old MTB retrofitted with dropbars 😀
Sick! But a shame with the cracked frame. Same thing happened to my brother a month ago, luckily he had great insurance who covered most of the new bike Sounds fun with the old mtb though!

Gravel bike, definitely. I have two wheelsets - 47mm Pathfinder Pro’s and 35mm GP5000 AS TR’s. SRAM AXS.
That’s THE setup man! Just ordered myself a pair of 47 mm Pathfinders 🤘
@@tobiasTbager you’ll love them. I raced 40mm Pathfinder Pro’s last season, and switched to 47’s this season. According to my Garmin data and race results I am definitely both faster and more comfortable on the 47’s.
@petersouthernboy6327 Sounds great! That’s what I’m hoping for. I’ve been riding the 42 mm for a couple of years now. But… bigger is better 😁
Most people have budget and room for only one bike.
Agree. Often we just get caught up in getting the latest and greatest to forget the most important thing - have fun on the bike 😁
