Planting Clearance Bare Root Shade Perennials in Terracotta Pots (Hosta, Toad Lilies, and Brunnera)
Today I'm planting clearance bare root shade perennials in terracotta pots. I have always loved the look of terracotta containers especially as they age. I have hosta, toad lilies, and brunnera. I've never planted toad lilies before so this is new to me. I really want to grow these shade perennials underneath my covered back porch in an area that we normally junk up. I got everything from Tulip World and Holland Bulb Farms on clearance. I always place a clearance plant order every summer because the prices just get too good lol. Hope this encourages you to add some shade perennials to your garden and to not be afraid of purchasing clearance bare roots.

I Found a Stone Patio Under My Lawn!
Переглядів 7249 годин тому
Well I found a stone patio under my lawn. In a previous video while trying to plant some Irish moss I noticed that every time I dug a hole there was stone at the bottom. I knew there was a pathway here but never realized it was a whole hidden stone patio. It's not in the best condition but I'm sure we can recover it. I think this patio will be so nice as it'll give another space to sit and rest...

I also find granular fertilizers to just be easiest when it c...

I used a fountain pump mesh bag and screen. Hope this h...

Nice to see such enthusiasm. Don't mean to be negative but from one gardener to another...cardboard no dig can be a great way to go...landscape material ends up being a nightmare most of the time 😢. Hope you are the exception to the rule tho.❤❤❤

I appreciate the advice Sandi. I try to use landscape fabric only in areas where I know I will never plant (like under this hedge). Cardboard would not have been enough for this particular situation as it’d break down in a season or two and I’d have to be hand pulling weeds as I wouldn’t be able to spray near trees.

@@SomeSpaceToGrow Like minds! In my case, I want to get a wall-mounted cabinet to make a greenhouse for an anthurium and possibly a begonia. I also want to be able to put plants in their that need a little extra TLC that I am in serious danger of killing. I have not seen anyone on UA-cam do a wall-mounted greenhouse project, though. Have you seen that anywhere?

Welcome to CO and it's wind that makes having nice things like greenhouses and gazebos very hard! I'm in Fort Collins. Just wanted to give you a heads up, that grapes will Take. Over. Something no one really talks about. Maybe it's because we don't actively prune them as they're growing, but we literally have a Jumanji situation where the branches/shoots are trying to enter our front door. I cut them about 1x a week. We cut them down to hardly anything in fall, and by the end of summer, there is a wall of greenery that takes half a day to chop back and bring to the brush pile. When the frost hits, the leaves die and they look like a haunted house landscape til the leaves fall off which takes a month or two. Maybe you know all this all but if not, start reading up on how to prune them as they grow, it's a whole thing which my brain absolutely cannot deal with. Although ours are wine grapes, we've never had clumps that ripen all at once. They ripen, but only a few at a time on each clump, so you have to sort of pick them like blueberries, finding which ones are soft. Just don't want you to get your hopes up like we did when planting ours. Our friends have table grapes and the bees and hornets are a permanent fixture on them when they're ripe fyi.The fruit isn't big like it is in stores also, but they are very sweet.
