    I can purchase any 1/10th buggy. But I am going to go with the B10R. I like cars that are not the typical brands. The PR appears very well designed. And one thing you mentioned that I agree with 100%. The motor mounts that some are using are not right and put stress on the motor housing and possibly the gears. I like that PR keeps the motor mounts bolts where they need to be.

    If you want more side bite out of the rear, you should consider shortening the upper control arm significantly (to 60-80% the length of the lower) and angling it down toward the chassis. This will give you camber gain with body roll in the rear and should keep the contact patch squarer, or ideally lean the tire into the turn so that the g-forces flatten it out and distribute the load evenly rather than riding on the edge. You will get a bit less forward bite as the camber gain also works in equal compression of the suspension, but if you want to avoid that AND have squared-up contact patches while turning, I suggest looking into the De-Dion axle as I mentioned previously as an idea for a conversion/custom setup (also, please don't forget my other two comments on the other videos)

      Yes. Having dabbled in airbrushes years ago and decided they were fun but too much trouble for me, all my bodies today are done with Tamiya spraycans though I have learnt some hacks that give them some 'fades'. Not as awesome as airbrushes, but good enough for me given the trouble saved. lol. If there is enough interest in how I spray my bodies I will definitely do a video!

    Nice. Hey, I have an idea for the front motor buggy, if you can get your hands on custom-length belts and have your own motor plate machined.

    • @marklim7851
      @marklim7851 25 днів тому

      The motor plate is not an issue, but I will have to make a few calls to see if a custom belt is possible. :) What's the idea?

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster 25 днів тому

      @@marklim7851 Basically, if the motor plate can support mounting the motor both in front of and behind the spur gear, you can get a lot more out of weight distribution. You can have the battery ALL the way rearward (up against the bulkhead) then mount the transfer box with the motor on the rearward mount right up against the battery for the furthest rearward weight distribution possible (even more so than a standup transmission). Conversely, you could mount the battery all the way forward just behind the servo with the motor on the front mount of the transfer box also basically touching it for the most forward possible weight distribution, which would also be even more so that your current Ymax setup or any laydown transmission buggy. Alternatively, you could have a final "full front motor" position where the motor is right behind the servo on the front mount and the battery behind the transfer box in the dead-center chassis position. And since the transfer box has a double-sided motor plate, you can run a bunch of in-between positions, too by swapping what side the motor is on (front or back) and then moving the battery accordingly. I think the simplest approach would be the first one mentioned and only having that transfer box position that way you only need one belt, but you should be able to put the battery both in front of or behind the transfer box regardless of whether the motor is on the front or back side, this way you also have the highest adjustability of weight distribution. Furthermore, you could develop a way to package the steering servo more tightly into the front end to facilitate this. One thing I considered was that on the PR buggy, you could simply stand the servo up and connect the steering arm to the bottom of the servo horn, and it'll take up about the same amount of space as the low-profile servo option. I've also thought of different ways to mount servos between or upside down and just behind the shock tower. Lastly, could you reply to my comment on your TD-2 video asking how it compares to the Y-max project since you said the TD2 is your new favorite?

    How does it compare to your Ymax 2 setup?

    • @marklim7851
      @marklim7851 20 днів тому

      What a great question! Based on the development of the TD2 car so far, I think pace-wise it is still a hair behind the Ymax-2. The 2 cars drive very differently though, which is why it is so enjoyable experimenting with these different designs. Maybe I should do a video sometime to talk about this. In short, the Ymax-2 is a much more responsive car and is a pleasure to drive for someone who can manage how quickly and how much it can steer. But the TD-2 is actually a much less stressful car to dogfight with because it is more predictable and doesn't feel like it is on edge - but I have to be honest that it is probably about 0.5s behind the Ymax-2 on average.

    Built a S1V4 a month ago, have the B10R laying around for about three weeks, still have to build it. The things in which PR Racing made a good impression on me: 1. The quality of the machined parts. 2. The quality of the moulded parts. 3. The tolerances of all the fits between the parts. All the perfect tight, sliding and loose fits, for whatever function where needed, without unnecessary slop. 4. The amount of complex/machined parts received in a kit for the price point. For other brands, mostly have to be purchased separately. 5. The amount of car setup options out of the box, which includes various extra parts. The overall quality is unlike any other RC kit I've ever built before. This includes both competition RC 3D helicopter and car kits, from numerous AAA brands. Even without mentioning how competitive the PR Racing kits are priced.

    It seems like a “mid motor” style mount for flipping the motor behind the shock tower would be the way…. I’d like to see it done…

      This would be an idea I have been thinking about trying as well, its just that time (and all the other project ideas) have not allowed that to happen. One day though... :)

    I would consider this about the most forward you can make the cab on a buggy before aesthetics degrade. It, itself, looks amazing, however.

      Thank you. This car is certainly one that has special meaning for me in my 'garage' of project cars. While I've grown to appreciate cab-forward bodies over time, I'll choose a mid or rear cab design anyday. :)

    Is this 1/8th scale, or just a nice, big, open, high speed 1/10th scale track?

    • @marklim7851

      Hi there, this is a dedicated 1/10 track. Sadly it has gradually been converted to feature more astro-turf because dirt is so hard to maintain. Always appreciate your track owners I say. :)

    I agree with you on the mid and rear cab bodies looking nicer. As far as your design goes, Schumacher has done a belt drive with forward motor in some of their buggies. IDR if they were as far forward as yours, however. In any case, consider looking into either a 2-idler gear or 4-idler gear transmission so that you can get the motor spinning the same way as the tires. This should add gyroscopic inertia, as well as increase inertial torque which will make mid-air control more responsive and possibly cause the rear to squat down/plant the tires a little more for higher grip. Another thing I want to see someone try is to have a REAR motor car, but with all the other electronics mounted as far forward as possible (without going AHEAD of the axle, except the servo, which can be between the shock tower) with a transverse batter that's ALSO far forward. The idea would be to get approximately the same or similar overall weight distribution as a mid-motor car but to increase the torque lever at the rear axle by having the mass of the motor behind it. The intention of this is to improve rotation/turn in responsiveness.

      Thanks for the comment. Based on my understanding, the motor in my buggy is slightly further forward than the Schumacher buggy you are referring to (I love Schumacher designs btw). 4-gear vs 3-gear transmissions are such an interesting discussion - both offer unique pros and cons. Over time, I've personally come to prefer 3-gear setup on high grip tracks exactly because of the reduced weight transfer. The cars stay flatter over acceleration - but importantly during braking - for stability in corners. The 4-gear cars can give great acceleration out of corners, but on braking can make the steering come on fast and hard. All in the setup I suppose. A rear-motor car with forward electronics sounds interesting. Thanks for the interesting project idea! :)

    Would you recommend to use ball bearings and slipper delete?

    • @marklim7851
      @marklim7851 8 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment. The car comes with ball bearings in the kit. As for a slipper eliminator I think that would be best for stock 17.5 racing to reduce rotating mass. PR does sell one.

      @@marklim7851 it does not come with ball bearings. Ball bearings is an option parts for 60USD. But thanks!

    Any good for dirt ?

    • @marklim7851
      @marklim7851 11 місяців тому

      I think as with most race buggies today the kit was designed primarily with higher grip surfaces in mind. It doesn't mean it won't work on dirt, but I think it would take some setup especially on the shock package and the tires. PR does offer a ball diff which will help tremendously on dirt. The V3 had won our local nationals on a dirt track, so it is possible. :)

    Very interesting story behind this! I was looking up the Bulldog body, I just ordered one for use on a Kyosho Dirtmaster, which I haven't even bought yet... But just looking around... Very nice video, I really enjoyed listening to your voiceover, lots of good knowledge and history, very interesting. I see you still make some videos, so I went and subscribed.

Yes I am still making videos but I work on these projects in my free time and as you can imagine they take some time to put together. Thank you for subscribing... motivates me to get to work on another vid soon.
