How does the e brake work with these?
Hold down the electric brake switch for 5 seconds, enables service mode with a yellow symbol on the dash. Use wind back tool for the rear piston.
I can’t find these bits can you send me a link by chance? They sell them as 3/8 drive but I just want the bits I need the smaller room that I can use with a long bit driver rather than a socket

That’s the one! It’s a treasure trove, what’s your favourite bit?
I approve 😏✌️
Excellent! What do you have planned for Easter?

That’s amazing! Sounds like the best Bank Hol Weekend plan! 🤩
Opel calibra 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I guess it is. Don’t think it was ever sold as that though.
@@Cherishedcars here in Norway it was sold as Opel Calibra
Fair play! Who would you say the target market was? I love Norway, not been for a long time, but you’ve got a beautiful country. 😊
@@Cherishedcars maybe the market was young men. In maybe 18-35 years old. I just remember the ones who had this car was in that age 🤣😅 Thank you. Its okay here
More than OK, it’s bloody lovely! Although I did get hypothermia on one of the big glaciers once. 🙊 That was over 20 years ago now. I’m getting old. Booze is expensive though, as I recall. You guys don’t mess about either. I remember being talked into doing a shot that frankly nearly killed me. I think I near passed out before I even tasted it. 😥
Una bestia
For sure!!! That whale tail is class 🐳
That's the problem with Halfords tools though. Yes they are a good price only problem is they do break and aren't as durable compared to a snap on. Ofc assuming both are being used properly
Thanks for watching and commenting! IMO There is a *huge* difference in price between Halfords and snap on. It’s like comparing a MX5 with a Ferrari. 😂. I’d love a Ferrari but can have just as much fun with an MX5 and be a lot less frightened to use it or lose it! Same with my tools!
Been using halford advance for 12 years never had any off the tools break on me apart from a rachet that was faulty from the factory they replace right away , Snap on brake like any tool brand apart from the prices with snap on are disgusting halfords are decent enough with a lifetime guarantee and dont cost a arm and a leg like snap on.
Snap on stuff breaks too mate
Two steps forward, one step back! Welcome to old car maintenance!
Indeed! I could have saved myself a step and £15 but hey ho! At least I’m becoming well practiced on these brakes… 😂
Put your own oxygen mask on first. Got to take care of yourself if you're going to take care of these cars. Enjoyable episode, really liked the detective work on the door mech.
Glad you enjoyed it, I’ve got an assortment of springs ordered…so fingers crossed for a fix! I should be feeling better by the time they arrive too!
Or is it a replica with a BMW motorcycle engine!
There’s a Ford KA with a bike engine about to tick up to £4K on eBay. Unreal money for a car that will only go in straight lines and has no reverse gear! (Thou admittedly also a weapon in those straight lines!)
Not surprised, you’ll never get one of those for £750!!
Haha, the bid had more numbers than that in it… Lol. I was serious enough to have gone and looked at it, in the end I decided it was a bit too nice for me and that I’d buy one cheaper I could improve. In hindsight this is very flawed thinking with a Porsche…
Remember the 127 from the 70s😊❤
Fun little cars! My wife said she used to be embarrassed to be given a lift to school in one…I’d be honoured!
Yes it was good that Halfords met the guarantee. Good on you for pursuing the claim. I was in Halfords at the weekend for an air filter and pollen filter and guess what? Crossland (europarts) filters only on display only. Sent away for Mann filters which are a perfect fit for my car. Good luck with your channel.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Mann filters are brilliant, well done for demanding the best! I find them particularly good on my Navara which can be a bit fussy about its fuel filter!
I have started seeing this issue everywhere now as a result of watching this video. You should get some cards printed up with a QR code linking to this video and I can start leaving them underneath windscreen wipers.
Great shout! You wait till I post the vid I’ve done on condensation in the headlights! Game changer. 🤣 😂 IMO this is part of why they’re so unloved, they look terrible with a badge missing and the headlights full of water, both pretty easy fixes and you get a mega cheap but very usable car for your efforts.
Notey McNoteface was very funny. Glad Halfords sorted you out and good on you for shouting them out in return. Keep us updated on the slide pins!
Thanks. Love the note. It’s been in the family from new, but one of them is gunna have to go soon. 😞 The slide pins arrived today, so hopefully get them in over the next day or two. Fingers crossed for the weather…
Groovy little cars
They are iconic. I’m a fan of the modern ones too tbh.
I've neve driven a modern car, what would you say they are like?
Well…define modern. For me it’s anything with an OBD port, so post 98ish in Europe. Reliable, economic and safe. Less characterful, but also less swearing and if maintained, breakdowns generally don’t happen unless you get a flat tyre. (There are exceptions, and most cars have a common issue that they happen to suffer from, but the ‘tinternet has made it easy to find out what the known faults are and what the fix is, so I just add this to the routine maintenance).
Cool, i have only driven 70s cars since i passed my test, all V8 cars too, how does the 90s and 2000's cars fair in the corners is there much creature comforts ?@@Cherishedcars
Generally pretty good in corners, certainly smaller stuff usually is. Specifications vary, as with everything…you get what you pay for! But I find Japanese stuff usually pretty generous while German stuff usually costs a fair bit more for decent options (Audi black line used to be an exception to this)
During my last visit to my local Halfords, I overheard a conversation between an employee and an elderly lady, suggesting that they charged £7 to fit windscreen wipers on a 2014 Vauxhall Corsa . . . . Which works out to around £190 an hour, for an at best, semi-skilled service.
Debatable…if you try to fit one of their universal wipers you need a masters in engineering! 😂 But yeah, it pains me when folk haven’t the confidence to have a go, much of why I bother posting stuff on here! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. 👍
Kwikfit wanted £75 for the wipers on my Focus (inc the rear one), but offered a free fitting service. Halfords wanted £42.50, but wanted an additional £10 for fitting all three. I fitted them myself, but they were still over £20 cheaper fitted and it was like for like on both quotes (Bosch). Not digging out Kwikfit btw, they were still over £50 cheaper than the dealership who said they needed replacing at it's annual service.
That’s a lot! Decent £save doing it yourself, nice one!
@@cbfconlineKwikfit are the ultimate notorious wiper robbers. A tip for next time, Bosch on Amazon would have saved you another £15.
Hard to beat Amazon for wipers in my experience. Although eBay can also be good!
Nitrac make the best discs.
I’ve never tried them, will keep an eye out. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment! 👍
I wouldn't take a bike to halfords
I worked at a Halfords when I was a kid. I’m sure they’re a lot better now, but you wouldn’t have wanted to take your bike to me. 😂 🤣
I think Halfords have been amazing to you as I can't understand why you think the pads were faulty. If one pad was worn down and the other was not then the caliper is faulty (either the caliper is not sliding as it should or the piston is not moving as it should) and none of that is Halfords responsibility. You need to look deeper into the braking system.
I stripped and rebuilt the callipers when the disks and pads were changed, and although I didn’t get any footage of them, when I stripped the carrier assembly to check them this time one of the slide pins has an internal rubber sleeve that was slightly deteriorated, so I’ve ordered new components to rebuild, but absolutely no indication of sticking on or uneven pressure. It’s bizarre. 🤷
@@Cherishedcars I have found Halfords to provide an exemplary service, in term of their retail attitude. My experience is they try to look after the customer where they can, and they've definitely gone 'above and beyond' here. I haven't watched the previous video, but "warranties" are against defective manufacture, no one gives a warranty against consequential damage. In your case, the buggered discs ARE consequential damage. Worn down pads that have damaged the discs, are down to you. Disc pads are consumables, and no-one provides a 2 year warranty against them wearing out. Again, drivers with a heavy right foot can wear out pads pretty quickly. Looking at this, I'd say you've done well to blag another set of pads and discs from Halfords, when most garages and other car owners would say the damage to the original replacements were down to you.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. In this case the guarantee is for longevity, and I’m sure you’d agree that I made the point they’ve been good to me and it’s been no quibble. I’m a happy punter, Halfords for the win!
Do not buy budget brake parts. Good brakes and tyres keep you safer on the road.
Yeah, can’t disagree. I’d not tried these before and without the guarantee I wouldn’t have bothered. But tbh if there is an issue with the calliper on the drivers side then I’m actually pretty impressed with them, the wear on the passenger side was minimal considering they’ve done 18k.
Bet the caliper is toast on the side where pads wore out. You will be lucky to get a second lot FOC..........................lol
New slide pins are on their way, that’s the only obvious component I didn’t rebuild last time I changed the brakes. But…the wear on the disc facing the knackered pad isn’t any different to the other side, so it doesn’t look like it’s been binding. 🤷 Either way, just reenforces how important it is to stay on top of maintenance. Thanks for watching and for taking a moment to comment!
@@Cherishedcars I have been in the motor trade for 50 years, and up to now have never come across faulty brake pads.
Fair one.
@@Cherishedcars I would suggest rebuilding the caliper on the side where the pads failed, and having a very careful look at the hoses and pipework at the same time.
@@humourless682 When working at a Ford main dealer an apprentice (well the fitter said it was his apprentice) fitted new pads back to front on a Friday; we found out when the customer returned complaining of noise on Monday. When my son picked his BT van up from service he was surprised when the brake pedal went to the floor on reaching the first road junction. The garage fitters were astounded that he hadn't read their minds and discovered that new pads had been fitted; certainly hadn't mentioned it to my son.
If only one pad was worn that would indicate that there is another problem with the braking system.
I pulled the calliper assembly apart and although everything looked ok I’m going to replace the slide pins as there was wear on one of them, so that might be the issue…but no sign of sticking/dragging or uneven braking and this is my daily driver. 🤷
Rain stayed off?
Yeah, weather was great actually. There were occasional spots and it went very cold a few times, but there was also decent bouts of sunshine and the ice cream van did a good trade!
halfords have nice new showrooms and someone has to pay for it, even European carts are getting expensive.
Brick and mortar stores defo have higher overheads, but it’s also the only place I can pick parts up on a Sunday, and that’s a huge benefit. I like to support my local independent motor factors too, but they’re often a lot more expensive.
Dont go to Halfords for its free tyre check. For some reason they open both bonnets to "check" the tyres.
😬 I do always think the “free” winter checks sounds like they’re gunna be expensive. 😂
They start to look for "other issues" outside of whatever the free check is .
@@Cherishedcars I get a winter check on all my cars for free every year as part of their motoring club. Once was told I had a worn tyre (which I knew about), but apart from that it's always been a clean bill of health and a free screen-wash top up thrown in.
That’s good to hear. I think companies get hammered unfairly because of how social media amplified negative stories, that’s why I was keen to say a public well done and thank you to Halfords for looking after me!
You really don't need a winter check in the UK or Ireland, neither place has a winter. I lived in Finland for a time and there you do need a winter car check. Everything is checked and you're advised to full service the car. There are some places in Finland if you break down you may not be found for a while. Good rule there is to take with you the same clothing as you would if you were walking.
Turned 30 last year, all my rides are 50 and above !
That’s awesome! Fair play! I’ll check out your channel. 👍
@@Cherishedcars thanks buddy, my stuff is old muscle,
Some really cool cars! I have a late friend who would have loved your stuff. We often talked about sharing a shipping container back from the states. Wish I’d done it when he was still around.
@Cherishedcars I hear you buddy. Lost my best friend back in 2019, it's never easy, I'm in the UK now originally Tennessee
Defo got a flavour of home on your channel! Sorry for your loss.
im 24 and id rather own an old car over this new crap
Agreed! Personality and fixability are both high on my wish list!!
Id rather have a rover p6 3500 v8 over any morden day equivilant
That’s a hella car up against any era. I think any P6 would be pretty cool, they were so ahead of their time. I was looking at the T3 and T4 in the motor museum earlier - a British car engineering was genuinely revolutionary and setting new standards. Absolutely shocking to have pretty much lost that…and much of the skill base.
Ohhh woooowww my first car is triumph Toledo ❤❤❤
You’d have loved #Rustival - there really was something for everyone!
That’s a long list! You can forget Sunday, heavy rain all day! Such is life. Why didn’t you put the brake disc screws back in before you put the caliper on?
Ah FFS. This weather has been bloody dreadful. The grub screw? One missing on the passenger side, I forgot it was like that…meant to pick one up the last time I changed them! 😬
@@Cherishedcars used to locate the disc while you refit the caliper and the road wheel!
Yeah, that’s the one. The driver side has one I refitted, but ironically that’s the side which had the premature wear, so it defo all went back together ok. 🤷
Clamp the ball to the carrier.

Cut it off if replacing
Soooo much cutting done on the bits that came off…unfortunately this was new…but I managed to get it on and nipped up in the end. 😮💨
On the top side by the boot there should be some flat spots to throw some vice grips on or some. Impact will make easy work of it.
Natch on these, but the top part of the bolt appears to have a very slight taper, and this was enough to hold it in place…just!
Taken around by Yorkshire_gobshite on instagram! Nice way to start the week!
