17:39 this looks like a Gainesville Midland Railroad locomotive….
Matt, just looking for a follow up on how your tool worked out? Thanks.
@@DaveSalamon oh it works great. Built mark II the end of this season as the original got bent from stress, all the sudden the super elevation started feeling really steep 🤣 checked for calibration and we bent it 1.2⁰ so a curve that was intended to be 1.5⁰ ended up about 3⁰. Lesson learned, add gussets where the pipe handle attaches to the bottom plate. 1⁰ of super elevation feels pretty good at all reasonable speeds, 2⁰ for sharper curves, 3⁰ may give some passengers (especially larger persons or those sitting high on a car, or cars with squishy springs) the sensation of tipping over.
Love the layout of the train tracks and awesome train whistle👍✌😎😁
the amount of money on screen is amazing, and every car is painted so nicely too
@@Cloud_Shire_82 what you viewing is the combined effort of many individuals over 15 or more years. What many people outside the hobby do not consider, is that the trains that get photographed and put on film the most are ones that are the most impressive, built by folks that have spent years or even multiple generations in the hobby. Everyone starts with a little gas or electric critter and a single riding car, and builds from there! As someone who is overly picky about paint and always cleaning my locomotive, thanks for noticing 🤣
Amazing number of cars!
@@johnnyhunter4345 Indeed! Our limit is about 35 with those two engines on our steep grades.
Greatly helpful inspiration, thank you!!
Pretty cool, great video and thanks for sharing. Dave
So cool bro…
Awesome Matt, you ran some crazy long trains. And had some awesome shots of you. Wish I could of stuck around for a night run that looked great..and how many times has your water bottle fell off the back of the tender. 🤣🤣
The night running is a lot of fun. The railroad feels completely different and dew becomes a factor. Hard to believe, but the water bottle stays there just fine. I have yet to pick it up trackside.
Impressive display of power and of train makeup. The sparks and the exhaust velocity out of the stacks is also very impressive. 🤠👍
You are spot on! Not everyone notices just how high the exhaust shoots out of the stack. With a little more smoke it would be more obvious, but it is close to 30 feet high
Wow that was just awesome Matt ❤👍😎
Thanks Dave! Glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool video and I like visiting these type places. Enjoyed the video and have a wonderful rest of your weekend.(Steve)
Thanks for checking it out! Have a great weekend as well!
@mattkinnard6899 you're very welcome and thank you also.
AWESOME!!!!
Thanks!!
I'm not sure if I understand this correctly, but as far as I know, pneumatic brakes on trains are released by building up air pressure. The advantage is that wagons brake automatically without air pressure (passive self-locking) and can only be unlocked by building up air pressure. But here it seems to be the opposite from my understanding? Or do I get it wrong?
Since you said wagons instead of cars, I will assume you may be commenting from outside the United States. Here in the U.S. the train airline is charged to 90 psi, sometimes more. An air tank on each car is filled from the brake pipe when it is being charged. To apply the train brakes, the engineer makes a reduction in the brake line, to say 85 psi. The triple valves located on each car detects the reduction and allows air from the car air tank to be applied to the brake piston, applying the brakes. To release the brakes the engineer increases the air pressure in the train brake line, and the triple valve on the cars bleeds off air from the brake piston and re-charges the air in the car tank. Brakes on the 7.5" gauge trains can work in this manner, but is is costly and complex. In the hobby it is most common that the brakes are off when the train airline is at 0 psi, and begin to apply the brakes when the engineer adds pressure to the line. This is referred to as a straight air system. Safety chains are used to connect the cars in conjunction with the coupler to keep the train from separating in the event of a coupler failure or derailment, eliminating the need for automatic air brakes like the full size trains.
@mattkinnard6899 You're right, I'm from Europe, not the USA. The concept you describe sounds interesting. Thank you very much for the explanation. However, this concept seems to me to have a small disadvantage, if I understand it correctly, because a wagon standing alone and not attached to a locomotive would then be unbraked as soon as the pressure in the reservoir decreases, and could simply start to roll uncontrollably on downhill gradients! Do I understand this correctly? If this is the case, it seems to me to be a small disadvantage, because then each uncoupled train section would have to be secured manually with brake shoes. --- Nevertheless, it is interesting to see how different the concepts can be.
@@asagk you are correct. That's when the hand brake comes into play and a cut of cars/wagons would have to be tied down. Depending on the grade, not every hand brake must be set. I am not a certified brakeman/conductor so I cannot comment on how many handbrakes must be set. I recently saw a cut of cars that still had plenty of air in them after about a week of sitting.
@@mattkinnard6899 Thank you for letting me know! All my best wishes and have a nice day!

I've wondered what happened to NEOLS after I moved out of the Akron area due to being laid off in the summer of '92. We used to visit the tracks in Copley every summer. My daughter loved riding the trains and I have the photos to prove it! Your run is much longer than that in Copley and I see a lot more track. I'm glad to hear that NEOLS was able to setup at a new location and keep growing.
What an outstanding railroad. I really enjoyed the ride along Matt.
What's the length of D&RGW L-131 2-8-8-2, SP SP-2 4-10-2, NP Z-5 2-8-8-4 steam locomotives in 7.5" gauge.

Awesome looking layout! That passenger train is on point, with two locomotives and all those heavyweights ❤
