Templar 250 Review and Ride (Affordable NOT Cheap).
What one is your favorite and why?
That is a tough question! For the dirt the Templar is the bike, has the power and set up to be a lot of fun in the dirt. Lifan KPX is a refined bike for the street and dirt roads, balanced engine makes it an all day ride. Hawk DLX is a rough neck kind of bike, can take a beating and keeps going! Thanks for the question, I hope this helps, thanks for watching.ELS
Yeah i think I'm going to get a Templar im trying to decide what middle though to get. So you recommend the m over the x?
If your going to be in the dirt most of the time I would recommend the M as 5 spd is enough gears and it has a kick start back up. if more road use the 6spd would be a benefit. Thanks for watching.ELS
why don't you just drill and put a grease zert at top and bottom? that way no dissassembly needed
Yes that would be a good option. Thanks for watching.ELS
Nice breakdown! I bought a Templar and it's holding up well so far, I'm going to try to get some trail riding up soon
Awesome to hear your a Templar owner. stay up on service and all will be good. Thanks for watching. ELS
You can use either the front brake or the rear to start the engine. If you clip a certain wire (details on ChinaRiders) you can disable the brake-to-start requirement.
Thanks for the info, I like how people find a work around. Thanks for watching. ELS
Scatter bumps😂😂😂😂 Right on Scott
Fun time. Thanks for watching.ELS
@ScottFish-m2o I bet. I got about 500miles on my M now. Mostly just been breaking in in street but about 150 mile and dirt .Hit a washed out road on Monday. Rode right thru it. Made the bike quieter. Lol
What size assorted screws did you purchase ?
Bolts brand motorcycle hardware part number 022-31408 from Amazon. Ihope this info helps. Thanks for watching.ELS
Looking good. Let us know how that fairing holds up!
So far so good it’s a solid unit and really sets off the rally look. Thanks for watching. ELS
What type of oil cooler upgrades are compatible with the Templar
Great review
Thank you. And thanks for watching. ELS
FYI I checked my brand new not even started direct from Venom 2024 KPX 250 for dipstick in or out. Dipstick out showed no oil. Dipstick screwed all the way in showed oil halfway up. Drained the oil into a measured container and it showed EXACTLY 1100 ml which is what the manual calls for when changing the oil. I'm on my 3rd oil change. New, 100 miles 300 miles all using 1100 ml (1.1 Liter) and all show oil 3/4 the way up when the dipstick is screwed all the way in, and nothing when the dipstick is just laid on top as you have it. Get yourself a 64 oz measuring pitcher made for fluids and marked in ml and oz. Fill it to 1100 ml and you will have the exact correct amount of oil in your KPX 250.
Thanks for watching the video.I’m glad to hear your maintaining your new KPX with numerous oil changes. As this is not my first rodeo with bike maintenance I will maintain my method of operation. Be sure to check your head stem bearings to ensure proper steering operation. Take care and thanks for your input.SCOTTFAX
@@Scott-sk7en That's fine but I would caution against over filling your oil. Too much is not a good thing. 1100 ml is what the manufacturer calls for.
@@Kevin-mm6xmThanks I appreciate your input and as the manual recommends placing the dip stick in to check oil level not screw it in to check. Oil capacity is 1.1 to 1.3 L. I appreciate the China bikes but not all their written info is always accurate. ELS
@@ScottFish-m2o Well it's 1.1 liter in the manual and the service manual. It's 1.3 liters if a new/rebuilt engine with zero oil in it. When changing your oil, put 1.1 liter of oil in, screw the dipstick all the way in, and the oil shows 3/4 of the way up the hash marks. Hard to argue with that kind of proof.
@ You do you. If you believe your spot on then continue with your practice. Not that serious of an issue as this is not my first oil change, and if you want to screw in your oil dipstick then do so. Have a good day!
how fast will it go stock? also is five gears enough? or would 6 be better
Stock the bike indicates 73mph, however the speedo reads a couple mph high. After changing out the front sprocket from 13t to 14t bike indicates 75 mph. Additionally, the 14t gives a little more space between the first 3 gears. Thanks for watching.ELS
@@Scott-sk7en thx, but still, would it be better to get the 6 speed version, or is the five fine?
First let me correct the top speed as I have given you the Lifan KPX speeds. Sorry. Top speed on the Templar with a 44t rear sprocket is right at 60 with the 5 speed. The six speed would be better if you spend more time on the road. I stay mostly off road with mine and five is good and I do like having a kick start back up. I hope this helps.ELS
@@Scott-sk7en ok thanks, definitely agree about the Kickstarter thing, any dirt bike should come with a kick start. its like a standard for dirtbikes. thats part of the reason i dont want to get the x, and want to get the m, because it has a backup kickstart. and cost slightly less too so thats a plus.
@@isaiahlea856 sounds like a good choice,enjoy.
Good video. I will surely check the grease in the areas you mentioned on my kpx250. Thank you. All the best.
Thanks for the kind words and watching the video. Yes I think they may have cut a corner on the grease! ELS
Aye scott i dont know if you know, but xpro came out with a new 300cc paladin i would love for you to review that
Yes I was informed of this new entry of cool bikes. Currently my garage is full but always looking for room for more. Thanks for watching. ELS
I get mine today! My new oil, grease, and locktite are ready to go. Can't wait.
Awesome news! sounds like your starting off right and doing the necessary maintenance. enjoy the ride. ELS
V-Max's are quite popular on youtube
Good to hear. wasn’t sure for such an old bike. Love the MAX. Thanks for watching.ELS
if work in china it work here
Yes it does. Thanks for watching.ELS
Just bought the Templar base. The reviews of that seemed positive as well, though I really want to find a skid plate for it. Anyone know parts that fit?
congratulations on your Templar, welcome to the China bike family. Thanks for watching.ELS
My ex girlfriends mother had a notebook in her car and wrote down the gas price, millage, amount filled, etc. She had 5 years' worth of data. When I asked why, she said that she keeps track of her gas millage. OCD as hell!
lol funny story. rock on with a China bike and keep your own notes on mileage! Thanks for watching. ELS
Scott, thank you for reviewing these Chinese made bikes. I started getting interested in them after seeing the KOVE 450 and seeing some of the CFMOTO offerings. These bikes are not as bad as some people seem to make them out to be and for the price point they become very appealing, especially if you have to outfit a family of three or four so that no one is left out. This answers a lot of questions about these Amazon and Walmart bikes. A thousand plus dollars is still a lot of money to throw away and it is nice to see that you are getting something that is at least usable and fun. Look forward to seeing more on your channel.
Thank you for watching, and yes most people want an affordable bike of good quality. When people stop with brand only identity they too can understand the draw of a China bike. ELS
Man, nice how much cabbage !
Thanks for watching, for less then 2K you too can enjoy the thrills of the Hawk! ELS
I’ve got over 12 thousand miles on my hawk dlx. Not been to many problems
Good to hear.Shows the quality of the bikes. keep on riding! Thanks for watching. ELS
My concern after owning several china brand tools, is that they are cheap but generally not durable. The more sophisticated the tool, the bigger the discrepancy. I have milwaukie and makita power tools that are 40 years old and still work like new. Many are better quality than new tools today. The Harbor Freight tools are not close to the quality. The cords harden and crack, the gear boxes get sloppy and loud, screws shear off or just fall out. They work, but lack quality. Honda bikes, especially the XR and XL lines are some of the most durable and reliable and bulletproof bikes ever made. My bro's early 90's XR can sit for years, and as long as it has good gas, it starts in 1 or 2 kicks. It doesn't leak anywhere. I know China can make quality items when they want to, or are spec'd to. How is the quality of the electronics (stator, cdi box), the rubber parts and seals and the shocks on the Templar? Are the plastics going to fade, get hard and crack? Are these bikes full rubber parts that will get hard, crack and leak, springs that will sag, loose tolerances in the motors and bad metallurgy that could kill you if the wrong metal component fails? Or, have they closed the gap, and are really trying to make a durable reliable product?
I hear you and I agree the Honda is a quality bike that will last. The China bikes have come a long way and are affordable alternative at a reasonable price. Any bike can last if the rider services the bike as recommended. thanks for watching.ELS
I’m in the Tucson area. How does she run when it’s 110 outside? Have you rode it in the summer?
Yes being in the desert, summer riding is a challenge. However, the bike does just fine in the heat. I think the bike might do better then me! Thanks for watching.ELS
I used to have Hondas and Suzukis in the past, and paid a lot of money for them because I always bought new. I still have a Suzuki, but wanted a smaller dual sport bike and ended up buying the Trailmaster T5 which is a 223cc street legal dual sport. Very similar to the old CRF230F or the Suzuki DR200S. But the price for the Trailmaster was only 1699, plus 150 for assembly. I'm in Dallas and there are several china bikes shops here so I just went to one of them and bought the bike already assembled. Tax title and license tags amounted to 80 bucks. So out the door it was CHEAP! Anyway it's a great bike for the price. I haven't had any trouble with it yet. It's electric start plus kick, came with a rear rack, skid plate, digital instruments, disk brakes front and rear, rim locks for off-road riding, USD forks, alloy rims, LED lighting all around, and a good sized fuel tank. The Zongshen engine runs much stronger than expected, very snappy and strong torque. So, no complaints I really enjoy it and it looks great too.
I Hear ya. I agree the China bikes are a quality bike for a great price. you bought a nice bike that I’m sure you will enjoy for some time. Thanks for watching.ELS
Scott, have you seen the new XPro Paladin 300? It's EFI, 6 speed, 300cc, liquid cooled, all street legal components, and a claimed 33.5 HP for right under $3K. It's so difficult to justify purchasing any of the Big 4 bikes when Chinese bikes just keep getting better and better and are affordable with sufficient quality out of the box.
Amen. I will be looking into the paladin sounds inviting. and yes the big 4 bikes are just to much money, helps to keep me looking into the China bikes.thanks for the info and for watching. ELS
What shock did you buy? How much was it. Eye to eye length? Spring rate? Thanks
all that info was added in the video. thanks for watching. ELS
The downside to a heavier fork oil is slowing down the damping circuit. While it will create the 'feeling' of a stiffer damper, it actual will reduce the damping capabilities. It's a good short-term compromise, but not the answer. A fork kit would be a better option 👍
lol fork oil is a great upgrade on a budget as that’s what my channel is about. oil can make necessary changes to fit a riders weight. as always anyone can spend more money for any service or upgrade. let me know how your fork kit works out. thanks for watching. ELS
that bike is NOT street legal. But there are some ways around that. New Jersey will not register .
each state may have different regulations to approve for street use. Others states like cal will not even allow a purchase. good luck finding a way around to register. it’s a great bike! ELS
Many have had this issue. However, you will need to call powersportsmax ( hard to get though to them on phone) before you buy. Ask if they still will send the MCO with vehicle type: MOTORCYCLE (instead of OFFROAD ONLY branding on the MCO). They have been doing that for years to get around the STREET LEGAL problem. They did that for me as well as another buyer whom i heard it from. You have to request this from the office that mails out the MCO's. All these bikes come equipped with CA emissions locked carbs and catalytic converters on the exhausts. They also come with full lighting, blinkers and brake light. Why they come OFFROAD ONLY branded is unknown.
Your KPX 250 is looking very cool. I enjoy this content for sure. Thank you, Scott. All the best.
thank you for input I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.ELS
My freind complains his is to tall. Thanks for the help.
glad I could help. Thanks for watching. ELS
how tall are you? I'm 6'1 just bought mines and waiting for it to come, also where did you get that rack on the back?
I’m 5’9” I tip toe the bike just fine, will be perfect for you. The rack came with the M model. Thanks for watching. ELS
how tall are you?
5’9” bike fits great. Thanks for watching.ELS
Looking to get a dirt bike here in Arizona was looking at a one of these but it’s seeking for almost 3.6k at the dealer what shoukd i do?
great choice, you can buy directly from the on line dealer or Amazon as I did. just know you will need to complete the build. very doable. dealers are in the business to make money if consumers don’t want the experience of assembly. good luck and thanks for watching. also let me know what route you take on your purchase. ELS
Seems a little expensive directly from the dealer but yeah I understand they probably put it together better than I could. I’m seeing videos and seeing the difference between bikes and AKA real bikes. I just saw a video of a CBR 250 so now I think I’m gonna start doing my research for Japanese bikes now that I know the difference I don’t have much money, but I do need a bite to commute from work and if I want to have some fun to take some stress off, maybe hit some dirt roads or trailstrails do you have any recommendations for both categories not expensive but for your buck it’s a plus if it has a dash and stuff I’m fairly new so I don’t know how to work on my dirtbike, but I’m sure I could learn if needed
@@Scott-sk7en also thanks in advance for reaching out appreciate it the help support to your viewers
The the best Chinas bike so far?
great bike at a reasonable price. ELS
@@Scott-sk7en thank you for the quick response. I was also wondering now that stayed up all night doing research. What will be the best starter comparison for a quality bike like a Japanese bike for the same price?
The els? I’ll do some research. I think it might be best for me to get a jap or euro bike if I can but just in case still doing research on china bikes because im new to dirt bikes, had a 04 zx10r for my first bike then sold it so im ready for torque
Last time I checked, there were no US companies making dirt bikes in the USA, and if there were the bikes would cost you the freaking teeth out of your head. You would have to take out a god-damned mortgage just to look at one.
I have to agree. that is the path to a China bike vs other over priced bikes at a dealership. Thanks for watching. ELS
Will a titan 250 gas tank fit the Templar. Templar tank to small, titan engine to small.
I don’t have enough info on the titan to recommend the swap. let me know if you try it and it works. thanks for watching.ELS
Thanks for the review. Have you gotten a top speed with and 0 to 50 or 60 time with your weight 180lbs.?
yes an indicated speed of 45 mph. I’m sure the Speedo reads a couple mph high. not bad for a 125cc. thanks for watching.ELS
The KPX is looking nice. How do you like the bike so far? Thanks for the content.
it’s a great bike, a big upgrade over the Hawk DLX. a little more money for a much upgraded bike. thanks for watching.ELS
Do you have links for the levers?
thanks for watching, I have no link but they are currently on Amazon. ELS
What did you do about the head light and the wiring?
I’m not sure what you mean about head light wiring.
If you are referring to the tail light I added sealant to keep moisture out. The photo includes the sealant, wiring is all good.
Well I plugged it in from connection then bolted it on. Turn it on and only the little bulb running light works. Push the bright and nothing works. Unbolt the plastic head lamp again , disconnect the connection flip it around and now the LED Lamp works, but burns out. How do I fix that?
The tail light is good. I hit it with a hot glue gun.. front light I don't know
@@alangoodrich6590 sounds like a loose wire possibility in the head light connection. After checking connection add some dielectric grease to the connection. If you still have issue check the hand control light switch for issue. Good luck. ELS
sick vid bro 👌🏻😎 what’s the best starter bike for a beginner
hawk DLX is a great bike to start on. Thanks for watching.ELS
So is the xpro DLx 150cc.
Great video I have the exact same bike. One thing I noticed that I highly recommend you fix is. It appears your front brake line is on the inside of the fork. If it is. Please move it to the outside. If it is left on the inside, it surely will unexpectedly rub on the rotor and damage it.
thanks for watching the video and I will look into the brake line routing. thanks.ELS
Further review LIfan assembly instruction recommends the brake line to run on the inside of the fork. It appears based on the location of the rotor the inside routing leaves plenty of room from the rotor. I will keep an eye on this issue. Thanks.ELS
@ScottFish-m2o ii understand what you mean, but I ran mine on the inside. The brake line will rub. It ruined mine. It can and should be ran on the outside. I had to get a replacement. It didn't cut all the way through it, but maybe halfway through. I made that mistake already. It works perfectly fine on the outside. Just trying to be helpful. Thanks for your cool channel.
Their instructions are incorrect. To be blunt.
Thanks I’m on it.
How tall are you I’m 5”7 will it be too tall for me?
I’m 5’9” and the bike fits me well. you will be on tippy toes but that is not a bad thing as you will quickly get use to the bike. good luck and thanks for watching.ELS
I recently purchased I’m having using starting it up and keeping it on once I accelerate a bit it turns off any clue ?
@@ajrodthebarberhow has it been since purchased? Do you recommend the bike? Which version and how much did it all come out to? Thanks!!
Just so others know...Was going to order this bike from power sports, to get is to my home, the total was $3200.00. Tax, delivery and other tack on they do. They advertise the bike @ $1899.00 ...yeah could have handle a $2200.00 usd to here but not @ $3200.00 price increase ...no one tells you about that.
that is a crazy mark-up! Amazon has the Templar X for $2059 and $400 delivery. all my bikes were through Amazon. check elsewhere for a reasonable deal. thanks for watching.ELS
Also Amazon Templar M for $1829 + $400 delivery. ELS

So what year is that Hawk DLX? THE 2024 Version has a counter balanced motor
Martin Matthew Harris Lisa Rodriguez Sarah
Which is better, the Lifan or XPro?
all are great bikes, but step-up quality overall the Lifan wins! thanks for watching.ELS
Personally.. I've been looking at the lifan bikes for a few years now. I love the lycan 250, kpx 250 and the kpm200. They all have different aspects that i love. Plus they are great beginner bikes for a new rider such as myself. Only problem is deciding which one is right for me, for example, i plan on using it to make my daily commute to my workplace which is about a 45 minute drive on the highway where the speed limit is 70 plus there are some hills on the highway. But i also plan on using it for just riding around downtown. I like the accessories available for the lycan since i plan on having saddlebags with trauma kits in them for worst case scenarios... but i prefer the ability to take it off road like the kpm and the kpx
All I can say is LIfan makes a quality bike that you would be happy with. The balanced engine will be a benefit for a commute and highway use. The bike has the right power delivery for a new rider or a seasoned rider alike. Sounds like it’s time to get that bike! Thanks for watching. ELS
