Having met at Salford Uni, Discovery is a musical duo who write in a variety of styles. After writing songs together for 2 years, they decided it was time to get up and perform their material for real. With Tuze’s knack for writing quirky folk-pop tunes, and Jamie’s penchant for complex harmony and Beatles-inspired music, the result is a revival of 60’s and 70’s pop and rock with a modern twist.
A Knock At The Door - (Original song by Discovery)
The story of how this song came to be is quite silly. I had just finished writing the basic chord progression and piano part, which features a prominent waltz feel in 3/4. I had to think of a name or title to save the project as, and for whatever reason I said aloud "3, 4, knock at the door". In that moment, I could feel the cogs turning in my head. Before that, all I had was a very basic chord progression with neither lyrics nor melody; half an hour later, I had this song.
The lyrics are probably a result of too much late night Skyrim around that time. Whatever it was, it just seemed to write itself. For what it's worth, I submitted this as part of a composition portfolio in my final year of university - where it got 90+ marks out of 100 😁.
