Shevaun's artwork on native Irish bees featured on a stunning ser...

Richar Noel presents "Keeping Bees with Asian Hornets"ev
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
The Asian Hornet is yet another pest that is close to establishing itself in the UK, although there have been no sightings in Ireland yet. Because of its aggressive predation on honeybees, most beekeepers are understandably concerned about how it could impact their beekeeping. Richard keeps his bees in Brittany where these hornets are active, and has had to adjust his beekeeping to take them in...

Roger Patterson presents "The Coming Season - Are You Prepared?"
Переглядів 2,3 тис.3 роки тому
Many beekeepers switch off as soon as they bed their bees down for the winter, then put their feet up, only to panic in the spring. There is a lot to think about. What went wrong last year? How can we overcome the problems and improve next year? What can you study so you understand your bees better, so make fewer mistakes? What other management techniques can you use? Can you make your bees mor...

Diagnosing queen problems - is it the queen, the colony, both, or neither? Practical advice-based on empirical research-looking at different symptoms and attributing whether or not the problem is the queen’s fault. The National Bee Improvement Programme has been proposed by BIBBA to reduce the demand for imports of other sub-species and to increase the quality of our bees. I have no idea why this guy thought that it was appropriate to bring politics into a beekeeping presentation as he did. I don’t want my Beekeeping to be contaminated with reference to Trump or any other politician. It was completely inappropriate and distracting in this presentation.

    I cannot spell the name of the produce Michael uses to kill the varroa mites. Can someone spell it for me please?

  • @williamsummers6438
    @williamsummers6438 2 роки тому

    The problem is the hive designs commonly used. Varroa do not survive in highly insulated hives that are also humid. Traditional hive design does not provide this. Hot and humid countries such as Cuba are naturally free of it. The bee pupate and hatch quicker in a hot environment allowing less time for the varroa mites to mature in the cells. Top bee entry and ventilation only are more humid and the varroa do not like that. Why remains a mystery, but that is the case. The problem in a cool country lies in the hive designs, having all the environmental integrity of a cardboard box,......mostly.

    • @LoessHillsBees
      @LoessHillsBees 11 місяців тому

      This is so blatantly wrong on so many levels. Bees control the levels of humidity in the hive. The reason most places like Cuba and other less developed countries don’t have issues from Varroa is because they could not afford to spend hundreds of dollars of big Pharmaceuticals treatments. The local populations have been heavily selected for resistance and given they can swarm year after year around it is faster than us that have seasons. Heat has greater effect then humidity on mite populations.

    Palmer says frequently non true statements, he's managing his colonies in a berserker way and is messing in every stretch of the imagination: question is, why's he having success? He's getting honey with more work and external artificial energy tan needed and is treating his animal superorganisms in a non gentle way -- having less honey with more effort at no benefit for the bees , sadly.. <he's still a professional amateur :(

    As soon as humans intervene it's No Longer Natural,this is a good video for beginners, but experienced beekeepers will find a ton of bs statements that from experience know just aren't true.People need to stop regurgitating information and start only teaching what they know by their own experience to be true...and then alot of statements would be withheld..

    Waiting for the new queens to lay eggs in a mating nucs prior to shipping and selling seems essential to check on the quality of the queens (1x brood cycle) and as said , the queens are better accepted by the new colony. The queen has a higher homone level capacity.

    As long as Randy keeps to bees and stays out of politics which he has absolutely no clue about he is in the good. People can also learn a lot about beekeeping from the internet with the filter God gave them as a brain. Randy is very good with bees,,,,period. His ideas on opinions on life are not sacrosanct like his ideas thoughts and opinions of bees.
