Making a combined spoon & fork - nunchucks?
Eat food not war, or something like that.
This project includes a wooden chain, which I think is pretty cool.

Making a bench-mounted shavehorse (But not really)

A bench-mounted shavehorse or awkward clamping device? I'm not sure. Inspiration came from this japanese woodworker, check him out: _sugiso_?hl=en My Instagram: davidnikkinen Music: Amazing Plan - Distressed av Kevin MacLeod licensieras enligt licensen Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/...
Raising a timber frame shed by hand
Raising day! I show you how I raise the timber frame of our new shed. The inspiration for this building came from japanese timber framing and the building which this one is replacing. The frame is 7m x 2,5m (23x16,4ft) with a structure consisting of 10x10cm (4"x4") posts and beams, the sills are 12,5x12,5cm (5"x5"). Everything is draw bore pegged together. The building is split in two parts, on...
Scribing wooden post to stone
I'm working on a timber frame shed for our homestead and used that as an excuse to try this method of scribing a wooden post to fit on a stone. I believe that this kind of work is called Hikari-tsuke in japanese woodworking if you want to see more of it. The part of the post which sits on the stone will later be burned and coated with a mix of tar, turpentine and veggie oil. Enjoy! Instagram: i...
Turning and fitting a chisel handle
I own a set of Narex chisels, one of witch I've managed to break the handle. Be gentle, then you wont have to make a new one. I turn a new handle out of ash that has been lying around the shop for quite some time. If you are like me and don't own an awl (or can't find it), the recipe for a 'poor-mans awl' is: - A nail - Some wood File the four faces of the pointy end so that the edges get sharp...
Steam bending wood using a clothing iron
I'm showing how to steam bend two oak planks (10x80mm) for a wall opening in my sister in law's kitchen. My workshop isn't quite big enough for a steam box so I decided to use this method instead. It works very well for this application where it's a rather small part of the plank which needs to get bent. The required tools are things I believe most people have at home or could easily source. I ...
Rabbeted Oblique Scarf Joint - 'Okkake Daisen Tsugi'
My first time trying this rabbeted oblique scarf joint or 'okkake daisen tsugi'. I used this joint to join two pieces of 4 meter long pine. The dimension of the wood is 4"x4". This is later to be used as one out of two members holding the roof in a timber frame shed. Tell me what you think and thanks for watching!

@@davidnikkinen4521 Thanks for the answer! You inspired me into giving this a proof of principle test and it worked so well that I actually build a version of this Lamp with it (Baxter Wooden Floor Lamp with Shade). I used a 20mm thick hardwood stock that bend well after 2 days in the water and 30 min under the iron.

Now when heat pressing how long would you let it stay in the jig mold for and then how long until you were confident they were permanently curved

    • @davidnikkinen4521
      @davidnikkinen4521 Рік тому

I believe i left mine for about an hour and a half, when the moisture and heat leaves the wood it will stabilize again. Leave them longer than you think if you are not confident about it!

How hot should you have your iron for this? Newer irons don't get nearly as hot as the old ones, but I do have an old one that I can set to Wool. Is that what I should use? Thank you.
