Waltzing With Brando: Movie Trailer Reaction
Happy to see my fave Nosferatu getting so much love. The two times Kinski walks past a cross and makes that great grumpy noise is one of the highlights of all time.
@@Baueresque It’s so beautifully creepy. Thanks for watching!
Yep love north by northwest my favourite too
@@spo-h4u I’m glad we agree! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this commentary. Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet is one of my favorite films.
@@damianop100 It truly is a great one! Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Been thinking about purchasing one. This video was extremely helpful. Subscribed 👍🏽
You'll love it. Having access to those other options is so much better if you're already a fan of physical media!
Fantastic video mate 👍🏻 can i be honest i have only seen 4 Hitchcock movies 😮😊, psycho birds vertigo, rear window, , next year im going to get more Hitchcock in my collection 💿💿💿💿💿👈🏻👍🏻🤓
@@stuartgeorge2324 Thanks for watching and try some more out!
@codyinthecinema I'm working on it stay tuned lol 😆 💿💿💿💿💿💿👈🏻👍🏻
I'd love to have made it through this list, but the distorted vocal audio became unbearable after 6 minutes. The audio input must have been clipping just about all the way through the recording, and nothing provokes listening fatigue like digital converter clipping. Thanks anyway, I appreciate the effort ✌
You're Welcome :)
Hi Cody. You pretty much nailed it in my opinion. I would have 39 Steps in there but I agree with the rest, even The Birds. 👍 North by Northwest is my 5th favourite film of all time, not because it is the best but because it's a film I could watch and enjoy endlessly. It's hard to believe North By Northwest and Frenzy were made by the same director, and that Frenzy came later, but they are both great in their own way.
I'm going to get that big collector's edition 4k set of NbyNW I think.
Meet me in st Louis I watched for the first time good film Judy garland singing have yourself a merry Christmas wow 😲 beautiful
@@stuartgeorge2324 It gets better with rewatches!
I am glad you got an all region player. That is the same player that I use. The world has now been opened up and you can pretty much watch everything now.
It's night and day! I hope you have the Steelbook of Fargo!
@@codyinthecinema yes, I have the steelbook of Fargo. It is a favorite of mine.
Dead of winter 1987 on tubi is a great thriller. Film should be in criterion collection.Roddy McDowell 😊😊😊😊😊😊
@@popey129 that looks like something they would add. Arthur Penn did write Night Moves also!
Film is creepy. 😊great review. I love breakhart pass 1975.
@@popey129 Oh yeah! I haven’t watched that one yet, but Once Upon a Time in the West is my favorite movie, so I’m sure I’d like it!
Tbh mate I haven't seen it have a good Christmas 🎄👍🏻
@@stuartgeorge2324 Give it a chance :-)
Did you know that the Searchers is now available on 4K Ultra HD
@@williambearden8716 Yeah! I need to pick it up soon! It’s one of my top four or five favorite movies.
@codyinthecinema nice and I'm a huge John Wayne fan
Love early Disney 👍🏻 my personal favourite is aristocats 😺
@@stuartgeorge2324 I haven’t seen it 😭
@codyinthecinema ooooooooo 😳 we got 2 cats so it's so it's mine and the wife's favourite it's sooo crazy zany trippy but bloody entertaining great songs and Thomas O'Malley is a fantastic character 😹
That is an amazing set. I love the Curzon sets that I have in my collection.
@@BasementBlus it’s SO pretty to just look at!
I really enjoyed this Top 10. Disney is a favorite of mine and there ar e so mant great films to pick from.
❤ I really hope they go back to meticulously crafted animation some day!
What is a criteria movie?😊
@@StellarLlama, The Criterion Collection is a physical media label/company that preserves, distributes, and helps to promote classic films. Often, it will focus on films that didn’t do well at the box office as well, but that are quality films in their own right (The Night of the Hunter is an example). It’s not just artsy films though. They also have campy films and just lots of stuff!
Love this film, thank you for reviewing it, especially the Twilight Time release that I also managed to pick up a few months ago. I wonder if you have seen 84 Charing Cross Road with Hopkins and Anne Bancroft, it's a similar sort of slow bookish piece, to me at least, perhaps not as great as Remains but definitely worth a watch. Also really liking your videos, especially the western ones, many of which I have seen and love. But others I haven't, I bought the Gunfighter after watching one of your videos and loved it. And really looking forward to seeing Winchester '73 in January, another I have not seen. A few recommendations I suggest considering what I can tell from your likes is Harakiri and Samurai Rebellion, both on Criterion. Great films that really pack a punch on multiple levels. Anything by Kobayashi is well worth your time. The Breaking Point by Michael Curtiz and Moonrise by Borzage, for some overlooked noir gems, both on Criterion again. Thanks for the wonderful content, your love of these films really comes through.
@@mattglass I haven’t heard of The Breaking Point. I’ll have to look into that. You’ve got some really great recommendations there! Thanks!
Love the review Cody! Can’t wait to pick this up soon. Your content is always great. Cheers.
Thanks! I'm thinking about the Bruce Lee set as well!
Black narcissus I own but I haven't seen it yet mate
It's one of the most visually stunning films!
Really interesting list. Black Narcissus is my 3rd favourite film of all time and I love that snowy scene with David Farrar. I’ve not heard of Marketa Lazarová and had to google it, but I love Daisies and Andrei R, so I trust your recommendation here. Czech cinema is/was so incredibly good. 👍
It's one of those I experienced more than carefully analyzed and understood fully. But it's really, really cool.
I highly recommend another film that Paul Muni made in the same year (1932): the classic “I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang.” It is a genuine gut-punch of a film. It is based on the book “I am a Fugitive from a Georgia Chain Gang” and it is a true story written by the actual protagonist in the story. BTW, Ann Dvorak pronounced her last name “Vor-shack.”
That one is on the list. Thanks!
this movie’s about courage. the quiet courage of jim mckay against buck hennesy, the bully of the show. most interesting of all is steve leach. the best character arc in the movie. after initially dismissing mckays manhood, grows to respect him and even begins to question his own morals and outlook. needless to say the bully is shown to be the coward he is in the end.
@@relaxedXgen Interesting analysis there of Steve!
Will get "Women in Paris", I have it on blu ray. Chaplin isn't in the film, but directed it brilliantly. Wonderful film Night moves, haven't seen, will get for sure. Will also get Godzilla! Wages of fear on 4k maybe, although already have it on blu ray Thief, have it on blu ray, so probably not. This is one of their best release slates for a while.
@@heartofcinema3454 I can’t believe I’d never even heard of the Chaplin directed film!
Interesting titles, did you get Funny girl 4 k ?
@@stuartgeorge2324 working on it!
My advice: don't buy expensive boutique releases of movies you've never seen before! There are other ways to watch a movie for the first time.
It's tricky for me because I usually enjoy my blind buys when it comes to Criterion, but I don't like to buy just anything they put out. I did just buy the giant Bela Tarr set from Curzon, but I really like that director and know I'll enjoy the films.
It's been a while since I watched this, so a lot of the details escape me. But that carousel scene is truly something else. As for the casting, I can't imagine anyone else but Farley Granger and Robert Walker playing those roles. If Walker had never made another film, he would still be legendary for this one.
@@grey1951 I really want a nice boutique copy sometime but can’t find one
I really like this review. I agree this is a film that ages with us. The film is my favourite Scorsese and De Niro film and in my top 50 favourite films of all time. 👍
@@steve4films seeing the 4K after years with the DVD really bumped it up a notch for me also
Great pickups Cody!
Thanks!!
Look forward to seeing your rosemarys baby review as it's one of my favourite horror movies
@@stuartgeorge2324 It was the first big brain horror movie I ever watched
@@codyinthecinema Ruth Gordon is fantastic in it
I would love a special edition 4 k Blu-ray uncut full version of once upon a time in America it's a fantastic film, nice pickups mate 👍🏻
Great tips for burnout, 👍🏻
@@stuartgeorge2324 thanks 🙏
Just a fantastic film I love it Anthony Hopkins performance is outstanding 👌🏻 great review
He's always even better than I think he will be.
@codyinthecinema it's a beautiful film
A beautiful film in every respect. Emma Thompson is a goddess of the screen. This is not hyperbole.
@@grey1951 I still need to see Howard’s End also!
Difficult to rank De Niro's performances but these are all incredible performances. This is a great vid and makes me want to rewatch many of these films, especially the ones I haven't seen for many years, like The Deer Hunter. 👍
@@steve4films I’ve noticed in these rewatches that every single performance is better than I remember. It’s really worth it.
Dam right brother Goodfellows is the greatest gangster movie 👌🏻 fantastic video
I just got my copy of The Remains of the Day in BTW and finished the book!
@codyinthecinema absolutely love it 😍👍🏻
Hopkins performance is outstanding
Excellent discussion of De Niro's work. I avoided the remake of Cape Fear for years, because I saw no reason to remake such a classic. But when a friend gave me a copy, I gave it a watch and was totally blown away by De Niro's interpretation of that role. And I recently rewatch The King of Comedy after many years and I had forgotten what an incredible film it is, and how good De Niro is. I have a special love for his work in New York, New York, because it's so atypical and so much fun.
@@grey1951 I’ll have to look into New York, New York. He has quite the filmography!
Seems a little gayish !
Great list. Robert De Niro is the greatest actor of all time, such iconic performances in so many movies. Close second and third would be Al Pacino and Marlon Brando.
I'm of a pretty similar thought pattern there for sure.
Tbh I have never been a big fan of it , have a good weekend mate 👍🏻
@@stuartgeorge2324 try it again! I promise!
Good video. Solaris is my favourite Tarkovsky and my 6th favourite film of all time. I have that same Criterion DVD. Stalker is my second favourite. They’re all great 👍 Nostalgia is the only one I’ve not seen.
@@steve4films The 4k Nostalgia transfer is really good!
I've been to Matewan (you should go!) and to Thurmond (by the way, there was a push for some of those buildings to be destroyed but someone has stepped up to purchase and restore) and saw the movie in 1987. By far, one of my favorite movies of all time. John Sayles, Director, is an amazing storyteller and this movie is what turned me on to independent films. Got to hear at the 30th anniversary celebration of the movie and showing in Charleston (as well as the actor who played Danny and John's partner who plays the Italian wife). I'm a 7th generation West Virginia girl only born in Ohio. This film is SO underappreciated, as are many independent films that weren't necessarily box office hits. Great history!!! You really should go visit Matewan and the Mine Wars museum there.
@@denisefabian5830 I’ve been all around old coal towns and such, so I’ll have to go!
I always appreciate your recommendations. I have only seen Mean Streets and I hesitate to watch one of those others in particular. 😅
The one you're talking about is a VERY hard watch, but there really is nothing else like it.
Thanksgiving 🦃 what's that ?🤔 😅
It's an excuse to watch Plains, Trains, and Automobiles!
@codyinthecinema why not 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video mate 👍🏻 I prefer home alone 2 more Christmas vibes 😅🎄👈🏻👍🏻 the uninvited is a good house movie 👍🏻
@@stuartgeorge2324 2 does have Tim Curry ☺️
@codyinthecinema sure does mate 👍🏻
Not seen this movie mate
@@stuartgeorge2324 It’s top tier film noir
@codyinthecinema yes I have heard of it it's a genre I haven't really got into mate 👍🏻
Glenn Ford!!! Thanks! The Big Heat (1953) - Reissue Trailer ua-cam.com/video/dJpHFGIO7kE/v-deo.html
I also love 3:10 to Yuma (original).
What are your thoughts on the picture quality of the 4K transfer? I'd be interested in your take on that as well.
Not nearly as clean or 'sparkling' as some of their films, unfortunately, but I'm sure how much of that has to do with what they had available. The Roaring Twenties I thought looked a lot better.
My all time favourite movie!!!
The Criterion materials are SUPER nice!
I expected to see scenes from the movie and was disappointed when I didn't. Bette Davis was one of the best actresses ever!
Yeah, she's pretty great!
