Twinkle In Your Eye - Original song written by Pauline Johnson
In the mid-80s I played guitar in a local Fredericton band called Excalibur. We played in clubs around New Brunswick. We covered top 40 rock and also played some original songs. We had an amazing lead singer from Minto named Pauline Johnson - who we called PJ for short. She had written a ballad called “Twinkle in Your Eye”, which the band put our own instrumentation to, and we added it to our set. Although we played the song live, as far as I know, the song was never recorded. But I always thought it was such a really great song - so I recently recorded the song and my daughter Jessica did the vocals - thanks Jessica! I kept the instrumentation close to the way we used to play the song in Excalibur “back in the day”. We hope you enjoy it!
And thanks to Pauline! I contacted her last year to ask her permission to record her song. Not only did she respond in minutes giving me permission, but she sent me a picture of the original lyrics handwritten on loose-leaf. I was amazed that she still had them!
There is a video of a live performance of Excalibur playing live in Sussex, New Brunswick, back in 1985 on UA-cam. If you are curious to hear the live version of "Twinkle in Your Eye" with Pauline singing. The video is at the following link (Twinkle in Your Eye is at the 18:04 mark):

Cover of Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues

It is strange how inspiration can hit. A couple of months ago I was watching TV late at night and a commercial came on. The commercial was simply some dudes head in black and white, with Nights in White Satin by The Moody Blues playing in the background (I am not even sure what the commercial was for). It might have just been my state of mind at the time, but I was really moved by the song. Aft...
Cover of Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog

It has been a while since I have done a song, hopefully I can start getting more done now that summer is over. After Brad, Steven and I recorded our cover of Painted Ladies by Ian Thomas, I talked with Brad about doing another song. I remembered at the time he mentioned that he would like to do a cover of Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog, one of his favorite songs. I finally got around to put...
Cover of Diary of a Madman by Ozzy Osbourne

Here is my cover of Ozzy’s Diary of a Madman with my daughter Jessica on vocals. We hope you enjoy it! My first Ozzy album was Diary of a Madman in 1981, ordered on a whim through Colombia House (who remembers them LOL) because I thought the name Ozzy Osbourne sounded cool. I was quite new to music and had not yet taken up guitar, but I was amazed by the complexity and the maturity of the music...
Cover of Painted Ladies by Ian Thomas

A couple of months back, I was driving around in my car listening to the radio when the song “Painted Ladies” came on. Painted Ladies was released by Canadian musician Ian Thomas on his first self titled release in 1973. We had a couple of Ian Thomas albums at my home when I first got into music as a teen and I remember listening to them a lot, so the song Painted Ladies was pretty well ingrain...
Cover of Someone Like You by Adele

Jessica suggested trying this song. I had never heard it before, but a great song - I am glad she suggested it. I started with the original piano only version (as is the studio version by Adele), and kept adding instruments. In the end it turned into a more rock type version. Jessica and I hope that you enjoy it.

Vocals by Aaron Hazlett, guitars and instruments by Andrew Wilcox. Drums and bass thanks to isolated tracks found on the internet. Aaron and I played in any Ozzy Tribute band together up until 2008, so this was a fitting song for us to do together!

I have always loved this song. It is one of those great songs that I can enjoy no matter how many times I hear it. So I decided to attempt my own version. I programmed the drums and bass, and played the piano, organ, vibraphone, strings, and guitars. Thanks so much to my daughter, Jessica Wilcox, for adding the lead vocal, and to Tina Gaudreau for adding the harmonies and ooohs. All three of th...

This is a little project that I did with my daughter. She asked me if I could help her do a cover of Stay by Rihanna and I was more than happy to. This is her first time singing on a recording, and really her first time trying to sing in general. I hope it brings some enjoyment. Hopefully we will do some more in the near future.
What if Randy Rhoads had played the solo to Stairway to Heaven

In response to a video by Rick Beato, where he asked what the solo to Stairway to Heaven may have sounded like if it had been played by Peter Frampton, Eddie Van Halen or Eric Johnson - here is my take on it where I wonder how it may of sounded if Randy Rhoads, one of my favorite guitar players, had played the solo to Stairway to Heaven. Check out Rick Beato's video here: ua-cam.com/video/1cOos...

I remember this as if it was yesterday PJ! Always loved ya girl, sorry I didn't get over to your bar. Hope you are doing well. Loved this song way back at The Chestnut when I first heard it, and it is just as amazing as I remembered it. Tammy Darling xx PS: Andrew you and Jessica did an Amazing job also!
HELLYEAH!!!
Randy never sweeped but a good rendition
Wow that is fantastic! Better than the original!!
Nice!!!
Wicked! That was epic
Played this many times. So good!
B3 riffs were pretty fat.
Why would you even post this disgrace on the great Gaku channel?? You just earned yourself a dislike.
Awesome!!!
Randy's solos were a song within a song (Richie Faulkner) I do not think he would play the tempo that fast. Listen to his solos on Tonight, You Can't Kill Rock and Roll..... but it would have been interesting, Randy actually triple tracked some of his solos, like Crazy Train 3 slightly different solos stacked right center and left...
Great job! Really like the song
Amazing!
Amazingly Awesome 🤩
Awesome jobs, Andrew and Jessica. Now that brings back memories.
