There is also such a thing as information coming at us nonstop, and in many cases we have no choice in the matter. Such is the case when listening to NPR, in particular the one in San Antonio (called KSTX). Much of their radio time is devoted to needless information, too much of it, IMO. After constant promos for donations and podcasts and certain programs ("World Music" being a major offender, along with "The Source") the stories and reports often deal with matters that one has no control over. We do not select any of it in the way that we can read books and magazine articles that are of interest or relevance to us. It's an infuriating linear format (one thing after another) so after a while I just turn off the radio. To clear my head of pointless jabber.

I wonder if Schopenhauer and all the other intellectuals he spoke that dislike noise were on the autism spectrum and were sensitive to loud noises. People on the spectrum would probably be of greater intelligence, so it would make sense that these men were scholars. This is all just conjecture and speculation though.
