Noise activates stressors, in which case we have to pay more attention to the possible threat, meaning less attention to what we were actually doing. Noise is never a good thing, dropping a heavy object creates noise, someone screaming, a dog barking, these are all warnings which our ears are subjected to.
What an excellent narrator, he seems to channel the spirit of the author almost. A challenging subject matter not because of the language but because the truth of it is caustic to sentimentality.
Kvetch, Kvetch, Kvetch! This highly influential philosopher took a universally dim view of life. Agreed, noise is a unconscionable interruption to thought, also affecting the nervous system, the heart and health in general. As others have commented here, Mr. Schopenhauer was truly lucky not to be living in this era of Telemarketers, Pile Drivers, automobile traffic etc. etc. etc. Today, Noise Rules.
Das best sound is no sound. Therefore, Silence is Golden. Truth must be realized in silence. Das best is de deep quiet in which I live and grow against das world; And harvest what they cannot take from me with sword and fire.
I love the way you read this I listen to it every night and my BFF laughs because when Harley motorcycles used to ride by my house changing gears he would ask me why You looked like I smelled a fart and I would tell him I felt like I was being shot every time those idiots rode by. Then I found this video. Arthur is my soulmate
The heavy walk and careless dropping of things from a neighbor upstairs. The most abominable of noises. I know I am not crazy when I complain about this. Only those who have no brains would not bother about it. I can't help feeling identified with this philosopher.
People who are outside India, should live in India! ( I am an Indian and living in India). One of the most noisy people perhaps! Nothing affects them!!
There is also such a thing as information coming at us nonstop, and in many cases we have no choice in the matter. Such is the case when listening to NPR, in particular the one in San Antonio (called KSTX). Much of their radio time is devoted to needless information, too much of it, IMO. After constant promos for donations and podcasts and certain programs ("World Music" being a major offender, along with "The Source") the stories and reports often deal with matters that one has no control over. We do not select any of it in the way that we can read books and magazine articles that are of interest or relevance to us. It's an infuriating linear format (one thing after another) so after a while I just turn off the radio. To clear my head of pointless jabber.

The combination of this narrator and Schopenhauer is perfect.

Apropos noise, lady Di must have had some thought...
This dude was based af.
Children whining is torture to me
Do not Whip them
like they whip horses
in Frankfurt Germany
Wish he would address noises other than whips. It's not really relevant anymore.
He does mention children crying, dogs barking, hammering, knocking, etc...
Noise is a disturbance to intelligent thoughts and unbearable burden for idiot's coming down off drug addiction.🤓
being deaf sucks too,..this just sucks,...shit
