18:30, exactly. Wherever the True Gospel has been preached. The problem is that for every 1 person who preaches the True Gospel, there are 100 others who preach a false gospel. Instead of Christians calling out those false gospels, we have people staying silent about it or even forming unholy alliances with them for some 'Greater Good'. That's the problem.
People forget that God works not only in short time spans but also for long time spans. How can we claim that St. Thomas Christians were a failure in their activities if we believe that the Body of Christ is lead by the Holy Spirit? Is the Holy Spirit only present through one Apostle? Was the Holy Spirit silent until the Catholics or the Protestants came to India? Or was God preparing India, working a plan for it, just as He did for the Israelites under the rule of the Pharaoh for centuries in Egypt? Just because a ground is rocky doesn't mean that we abandon it. We can turn even the most infertile soil into the most fertile of lands. If we can do that as humans, then what can our God do? We really need to stop thinking in short term like this if we really wanna see the Hand of God moving through History. 🙏
I agree. Holy Spirit add people to church, as is seen in Acts. Also at one point, HolySpirit forbade the disciples to go to Asia. At another time, the apostle was shown to go to Macedonia. So, we should refrain or go to other places according to the guidance of HolySpirit imo. However the Protestant ideology is to go wherever they can, and preach all over the place. Are they listening to Holyspirit forbading them to go to certain places? If they did, they wouldn’t have judged the traditional churches.
The problem with karl is he tried to target Christians in india to get applause from the right wing (not all) however when he got trampled by the same people he tried to please during his participation in protests. He showed gospel preaching as missionary conversion.
It is sad that Christians in kerala turned out to be duds. They fell into the caste trap that is the issue. We were the yavanas or ionians in the sangam poetry. No translation work of the scriptures into malayalam fir long. The one thing i learned as a syrian christian when young is we are brahmins we should not interact with low castes. Shame on us for caste is entirely against the spirit of christ
@@johngeevarghese1354 Well said. The primary reason for Christianity not spreading in India was that it got polluted by the local cultural and religious beliefs such as caste system. Also, this thinking initiated the idea that if you were born into a Christian household you are a Christian which is not biblically supported.. and also there was no commitment towards reaching the lost outside of their caste groups. To make things worse..when the evangelicals finally started reaching the lost in Kerala, a bishop from Kerala was so offended by this church growth that he started implying that the lower castes are just converting because they are receiving food and money.. ans he coined this extremely derogatory term called "rice Christians" which is now ironically being used against these so-called "high caste" Christians as well
You could be true, but there is some history of several documents (including ancient manuscripts) being burnt by Tipu Sultan
@@Luvallo That will not explain why Christianity did not spread out of Kerala for nearly 1600 years. Even now you can see that the traditional churches in Kerala are not evangelistic
I don’t think we should judge them. If you noticed, Christianity is highest in South and north east India, where there were Jewish settlements in highest concentrate, as Christianity came to India because of the Jews. And people there readily believed in the messiah Jesus. And, it’s not required to convert all people, as is seen in acts, the HolySpirit forbade disciple to go to Asia, and Lord Jesus had said if anyone do not receive you, dust off your feet and leave the place, for they would later face judgement. The kind of rage the Hindu nationalists shows to Christianity, one must think about it and leave them to judgement day. Let God be the judge. So in my opinion, what the South Indians did was right. Preach gospel to those who are accepting, who are enquirers of the faith. Holy Spirit will add them to church as it is seen in Acts.
Kerala had Persian immigrants who spoke Aramaic which probably answers why there was no translation of texts to the regional language.
Sati ,,social caste is inhuman to see
St Thomas, the apostle came to preach gospel as per Jesus command. Jews connection helped to reach Kerala. Many high cast people received faith in the first century Not sure why not fruitful/flourished like other countries but survived till now. May be a comfort zone issue. If any nonsense is to be told, it is boundless, because it doesn’t require any rationale. The same is true for the story of Christianity in India. Even in Europe,Christianity was introduced by means of bigotry. It is not different to the history of India also. So far, there is no evidence for historical existence of Jesus, how the story of Thomas becomes true for Kerala…?. It is better to believe in the story of Parasurama’s creation of Kerala, rather than that of Thomas’s coming in the first century. More over Jews are also not for a pure race. 0:48 Kindly speak for yourself & your community!Vast majority of Indians don't consider themselves related to characters of Jewish Mythology, only Christians do.
St Thomas didn't come here for the Jews. This was popular trade route. Jesus didn't say go to the Jews my people. He wanted Gospel to be preached to all. Christianity didn't spread outside Kerala for the same reason we had less invasions. Western Ghats. The local Christians due to casteism didn't preach and took on local culture. There was sufficient food and water so there was no need to travel to another place.
Thomas didn't want to come to India , It was the Lord Jesus Christ who told him to come here and preach the message, as written in the Gospel of Thomas.
Please check the Indian missionary history before making such false comments "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” Romans 1:16 But Jesus said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” / “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.” Matthew 15:24, 26, 28 NKJV “And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.” John 10:16 NKJV ““I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles,” Isaiah 42:6 NKJV “For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.”

The reason Christianity didn't spread in India before the arrival of the western colonial forces is because the churches started in Kerala such as the Syrian Orthodox churches were not evangelical. They also preached the erroneous doctrine that being born into a Christian family makes you Christian and that you will be assured of salvation, Also, there was no proper teaching on making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). These things made the churches in Kerala very inward looking, driven by tradition rather than the Bible and focusing more on religious rituals rather than growing in personal relationship with God

@@pkphilips2 That is your assumption. Lord Jesus said to let little children come to me, and do not hinder them for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. Romila thapper is right 😂😂😂😂.
I know that St. Thomas came to Kerala to talk to the Jews in Hebrew as that was their language and St. Thomas didn't know malayalam. So, it was the Jews who converted to Christianity and then preached the message to the gentiles, mainly the upper strata of the society leading to their conversion too. Later on, these Christians started to marry, i.e., the gentile Christians and the Jewish Christians. This is the group of Christians that dominate Kerala. However, to say that the Orthodox and the catholic beliefs came later and the Protestants Christianity was already prevalent in Kerala is 100% false because Jews have a lot of respect for the dead eg. Bible says that Abraham bought a field for his wife from the Hittites to bury her. He didn't dump her body just anywhere but at a proper place. Similarly, David too buried his dead soldiers with a lot of respect and prayers. Therefore, according to Protestant belief where they don't pray for the soul of the dead people while the Orthodox and the Catholic have a lot of respect for the dead people as there is a resurrection of the body as per the Bible. Another contention is that Protestants don't have any images or photos of Jesus, Mary , saints, angels while the Catholic and Orthodox have it and accuse them that they worship those statues and images. This is absolutely BS because in Exodus 25, there are mighty angles called Cherubims located above the Covenant box and God told to keep the Cherubims opposite to each other in a facing position where God will come to meet them. Also, the temple that was built by Solomon had two angles in the holy of holies 10 cubits long which was enormous in size. These images and statues represent the presence of God and people in the Moses times were praying to God and not to the angles. The catholic and the Orthodox have carried this tradition forward which was given by God himself to Moses and then later to Solomon as he was building the temple. Therefore, I would say that Christianity was an established religion in Kerala long before the Portuguese came here and because of the wrong teachings of the Protestant church that came with the British, the Christian community is suffering.

the early church in Kerala before the advent of modern day Orthodox and catholic rites was considered as a "Judaised" and "heretical" form of Christianity as per the Portuguese...many Portuguese writer even concluded that they don't worship icons or statues...I'd say they were Iconoclasts in general which was at that time viewed as heresy by both the see of Rome and Constantinople..... @@ChrisElias5002 The portuguese were catholics and the catholics have always made elaborate churches with icons or statues in it so what you are saying doesn't match with the thing called heretical judaism. It has to be something else. The jews might have never created the image of God but they do have a tradition of extensively decorating their temple even the doors were decorated with the carved angelic beings, flowers, palm trees in Solomons temple, 1 Kings 6:32 and other places inside the temple too were elaborately decorated. So, it means that God loves beauty inside his temple/church. However, in the New Testament we know that Paul says," Christ is the visible image of invisible God., Colossians 1:15" Since many people had seen Jesus and He was such an iconic figure many drew Him while He was living and after He was no longer there. Since Jesus is son of God so in that sense there is no problem in putting up that image of Christ and also respecting that image. Therefore, to decorate a church with the pictures of Jesus washing the feet of disciples, Jesus forgiving an adulterous woman is no problem and should be encouraged so that people can emulate their God Jesus Christ.

Here's what happened. There were Christians on the western coast of India for long time. What you and many others have is what we call historical short sight. When the Portughese arrived, they destroyed the churches of the local Christians. And they destroyed the recorded history of the St Thomas Christians. All of the legends point to Christian settlements in Goa before the arrival of the Catholics. Recently it's been proved. A wall in a church fell down and revealed a Persian cross dating back centuries before the arrival of the colonizers. The notion that St THomas came primarily to talk to the Jews about Jesus Christ is flawed. Because he is the father of all the Eastern Syriac Churches. One of the first gentiles to convert to CHristianity was the Assyrians. They were not Jews. And according to the legends of the Kochi Jews, they belong to the Bene Israel tribe and they migrated possibly from Iraq in AD50s. There were Jewish people before as well in Kochi, but not settlers. They were not lost tribe. They were very well connected to the Jews of Israel at that time by trade. Catholics came before the Portughese. Missionaries set up the diocese of Kollam before that. I believe it was a few Italian missionaries. The host you have invited seems like a good hearted person. But he is not very well versed in this matter. Please invite some Historians who knows what they are talking about. I could find faults in every line he has uttered from his mouth.
To add to what you said… Saint Thomas converted a few Indians to Christianity. Those Indians were not Jews. Recorded data suggests Sankarapuri, Pakalomattam, Kalli and Kaliyankal Brahmin families. They were called Nasranis. They kept contact with church headed by St. Peter, the one in Rome and one in Antioch. Relationship with Antioch continued as it was closer, for 1500 years. When Portuguese arrived, the Indian Christians got exposed to the great East-West schism. Similar split mirrored on our side. Roman Catholics introduced Latin Catholicism. A section of Christian’s in India opposed to latinization and to Catholic principles and they are part of the oriental orthodox churches. The ones that opposed to latinization but wanted to preserve catholicity and their East Syriac liturgy, became the largest denomination, Syro Malabar Catholics. The new people that were converted by Portuguese were Latin Catholics. In 20th century, a group that was part of Orthodox moved to Catholic side, with their West Syriac liturgy and they are Syro Malankara Catholics. Orthodox side too had seen similar divisions in the last 500 years. In the later period, we began to see British introducing Anglican Protestantism in the 19th century and American and Australian missionaries introducing other forms of Protestantism after India’s independence.
@@SmokedChips But all these explanations do not answer why this did not spread across the land or atleast in peininsular region which now includes Andhra Taamilnad Keral and Kaarnataka. These early Christians kept Christ to themselves like what Jesus said putting the light under bushel. If these people did their job of spreading the gospel today Christianity in India would not have been associated with western missionaries.
@@arpanapalle5556 True. In fact, upon my research, I came up with 2 factors. 1. A persecuted church always grew. Christianity was not persecuted in Kerala. Society was generally harmonious for centuries under Cheras and later dynasties. 2. Church itself spent its resources within the Christian society to strengthen. Western Christianity expanded with a military force in its side. Since the Christians in Kerala have no intention to go to war to preach, expansion is limited. Additionally, the church was isolated. I think this is the only church started by one of the disciples of Jesus, which is not a patriarchate. And yet, masses were conducted in Aramaic until 1965.
Why Christianity didn’t spread like it did in Europe? Let me explain. There’s two ways Christianity spread. One because of the population growth and second by force. That’s how Greece, Rome and Latin America became Christian territories. That did not happen in Asia or in Africa. Ethiopia and Alexandria was Christian for as long as any other communities. They did not force it on others like it happened in Europe. The colonisers were already Christians when they reached new colonies. Is converting by force Christian? You tell me!
@@SmokedChips The notion the persecuted church always grew is wrong. Look at our mother church, the church of east. It fell from being the church that covered all of Asia to just parts of Middle East and just Kerala. Look at what happened to Orthodox Church. They were driven out from their territories back to Greece. The centre of Christianity for over a 1000 years was not Rome but Constantinople. We all know what happened to Hagia Sophia. Rome became the centre of Christianity because of the fall of Constantinople and because they forcefully converted people from other religions. Ever heard of inquisitions? Roman Catholic Church have a history of inquisitions wherever they went. Starting from Roman inquisitions to Latin American Inquisitions to Goan inquisition to Philippines. The list never ends! Secondly, The Christiana in Kerala always were powerful and rich. We had our own army to protect our interests. You can check records. In fact we carried weapons until recently. You can see that people who migrated to Idukki and Waynad carried this tradition till recently. Always had a dagger with them. And churches had Aayudhappura aka armoury in front of them. And our language was Syriac. Even when people started talking in Malayalam, the Christian’s wrote it in Syriac. This method was called Karshon.
Migration from India happened but not the other way with exception of Arab invaders, european colonizers, Parsis and Jews
What do u mean?
@@anoopmathen4566 There is no Aryan invasion.
@@alugulapati1 what led u to conclude that
@@alugulapati1 Linguistic analysis, mitochondrial dna analysis, all suggest otherwise. There are political undertones for invasion versus migration. Every recent analysis in one of the videos on this, very same topic, concludes that it is an invasion. After the migration, the female DNA changed to the incoming aryans. And the aryan women’s DNA didn’t pass down. Which meant that a large group of men, without their women traveled to India and settled there.
@@SmokedChips There is a lot of research in recent times and it proves otherwise. Anyways we need people who go up the stream as far as thinking is concerned.
Thanks Be to God. Thanks to Holy Catholic Church
A question I have always had.
Please continue this work.
Correct analysis. I too have the same conviction that Thomas came not for Indians but for the Jews living in India.
That is how everywhere, but once proclaimed to the Jews they didn't stop. They went on to preach Gospel to other people too.
Jews first Gentiles then, that’s what Christ told them
Jew to Gentiles that is us..Now that it preched so it's up to to you and me to choose. When we accept Christ we no longer jew,Gentiles,Greeks rich, poor, low high, slave and free and we no longer difference but the same to God we become his. childrens,he call us his own.
@@krishnaswami3362 That’s a flawed analogy. St Thomas didn’t come for Jews. If that’s true, he would have gone to Jewish centres before coming to India as well. He went to Assyria, Persia before and evangelised gentiles before coming to India. The legend is that he evangelised local population aka Hindus and moved on to south eastern India. This claim is not questioned by the Hindus either. Also according to Kochinjews, the oldest Jewish community in India, they themselves came here in Ad 50s. So??
Bro st Thomas came to the place to spread the word of god not for the Jews. He was killed by the Hindu Brahmins.
There is nothing more fraud illegal and immoral than Christian missionaries in India and the conversions. Its a money making business where foreign agencies pumped money and the conversions are used to change course of nation. Is that godly work?
Modern world and modern India is a result of spread of the Bible consequent to Protestant Reformation. It came to India only around 1800 AD

Only for the past 200 years. Other theories are far from truth. Period!
The role of catholic missionaries is reduced to just one sentence!!!🧐
And everything is attributed to the Reformation, sorry, Deformation. 50% of British and Dutch efforts in India and Sri Lanka were not to convert anyone but to make money and pervert Catholics and others who already believed in Christ. Their own histories devote more chapters to bragging about how they 'defeated Romanism and papism'.
I have his book... But he terribly underplays the role of catholics in development of indian languages...!!!
Persecution by Portuguese Colonizers: Portuguese colonization and imposition of Latin Rite Christianity Portuguese Colonization and Synod of Diamper (1599): The Synod of Diamper forced Saint Thomas Christians to adopt Latin Rite practices, suppressing their unique traditions and liturgy. 1. Division within the community 2. Loss of indigenous leadership 3. Decline of traditional practices
I would call it "setting things in order by exercising apostolic authority"...!!!
@@michaelaratnam6517Is St Thomas not an apostle?

Great research work and you are an ocean of knowledge and bringing out the forgotten facts and contributions of missionaries to the world. May these truths be respected and honoured every citizen of our great country India. May this also bring respect to every human of our great country enriched by various cultures, languages and beliefs and lifestyles.
Sorry to say that there are many issues in his research. His arguments are not really sound. Most thesis gets cleared and if the researcher follow certain style and methodology.
Wow this is excellent. hindi languages, schools and colleges created by missionaries. this is big news.
Pray for Christians of Manipur..😢
Please bring in more Indian Scholars like Dr. Vishal and Dr. Babu. Really loved these two episodes!
