    Will there be a Level 7? If not, what math do you recommend after level 6 if the child is not taking pre-algebra in 7th grade?

    • @homeschoolmathmom
      @homeschoolmathmom Місяць тому

      No plans for a Level 7 yet. There are a couple of good options for a transition math between Level 6 and Pre-algebra. I taught a Middle School Math class at my co-op using a book by UCSMP. There is an online class that is similar to what I taught at Debra Bell's Aim Academy.

    We are now doing the addition facts skill practice. I am wondering if these facts should be memorized before moving on? Or do I move on with the curriculum even if my child still needs to count on fingers to get the answer.

    • @homeschoolmathmom
      @homeschoolmathmom Місяць тому

      That can go either way. Which unit are you in? Some times I recommend that parents pause for 1-2 weeks to work on shoring up the facts before continuing. But if you pause too long sometimes students get frustrated.

And I love that you are still tying it back to our Creator. Do you have tips for doing math with two kiddos? Do you just stagger the lessons?

    • @homeschoolmathmom

      Yes, many kids will be ready for pre-algebra. Some students may want to take one more year to shore up some skills, but all the prerequisites for pre-algebra have been covered in levels 1-6.

    About how long does each lesson take in Level 5 and Level 6 for the average child?

    • @homeschoolmathmom
      @homeschoolmathmom 5 місяців тому

      At that level I would expect it to take about 45 minutes. Obviously it varies depending on the kid and the lesson. But 45 minutes should cover the skills practice time and the lesson.

    Do you ever utilize the 10 frame that math with confidence uses? I'm really debating b/t these 2 curriculums. How does this one teach memorization of the addition and subtraction math facts? We are already doing a curriculum that is "drill and kill" with flashcards and a million math problems per day to "teach" the kids to memorize the problems. Really looking for something more fun and something that will help the math facts stick.

    • @homeschoolmathmom
      @homeschoolmathmom 7 місяців тому

      Yes. The ten frame is incorporated in level 1. For the memorization of facts I have the kids learn them in groups or families. Also, most of the practice is done through games. I am allergic to "drill and kill" :)

    Curious if they are only going to level 6 what would be used for grade 7? Would you have to find something else for that gap year before pre-algrebra? Or would they be ready for pre-alg. I am interested im using this math but I don't want to find a different math program for grade 7 and then another for pre- algebra and above.

    • @homeschoolmathmom
      @homeschoolmathmom 7 місяців тому

      This is a great question. A strong math student can go right from Math 6 into Prealgebra. But some students will benefit from another year of review if they don't have all their skills solidified (mainly fractions, decimals, and percents). I wanted students to be able to complete Algebra 1 in 8th grade if they wanted too. So there aren't any gaps between Math 6 and Prealgebra.

    Love your video. I would love to partner with you and receive a copy of your math 4 for exchange of our honest review. I think it would be great for my daughter to have a hands on approach with math. She loves games and we have just struggle the last couple of years of finding a math that was the right fit for her. She was watching a flip through of this math and was excited and that said a lot to me. We would love to use this in our homeschool and I would love to send you a video of her using it and giving her opinion on it. That way you could share it for us. I’m starting Apologia math after 3 years of screaming and crying and feeling hopeless and defeated in our previous math. It took me that long to realize my son was struggling with HOW math was presented instead of just “not being a math person” and not “getting it”. Horrible. But thank God for homeschool and being able to find that disconnect and change direction! I am SO EXCITED for this curriculum! And your videos are so so helpful and reassuring.
