The Art of Making New Pokémon Types
Переглядів 32 тис.14 днів тому
People are always wondering if Game Freak will ever add new Pokémon types into the series. In this video, I discuss what that process looks like, and then suggest a few new types that may or may not be added. I love azumiral he was kinda good, with huge power the fairy type hosted it like crazy!
Imagine if Gen 11 is a restart of new species and hopefully we get the fish generation with 170 undiscovered pokemon And 30 New pokemon spread among 3 Dlcs
Also Gen 11 and Gen 5 are gonna be the next arc Inhave a feeling the gen 11 Will based on The US again but i feel it will introduce the concepts of apocalypse and reconstruction
Gen 8 was a way Pokemon showed How future gimmicks can be strictly to a certain region And the hate dor gen 8;needs ro be shut down because dude it was awesome to be able to mix mega evolution and Z moves If your ducks haven't captured that concept then your gonna hate the furure gimmickz Z move are universal because its about bonding with your pokemon hence why only Pikachu had both A z move and gigantimax Yall know rhe next game before Gen 10 Deals with alternative timelines and time travel
Hmmmmmm since this will pokemons take ok greek mythology i feel gen 9, and 6 are the key players here Mega and Terrastalization are coming back What gave it away was Salamace and we maybe we have seen its mega evolution
The only pokémon that can't dynamax are zacian, zemazenta, and eternatus
I loved Z-Moves, they were so adorable and ridiculous. I didn’t use them too often but I liked their animations. Dynamax was my least favourite, as it felt like the least innovative.
I always felt the theoretical "lighg type" would be effective on ground type pokemon as creatures that live underground are sensitive to light
What's the song used at 11:56 ?
Why snorlax for sound? Cause snoring? While true, I associate snorlax more with eating and sleeping than snoring. Id keep him normal.
I think sugar should probably have two more vulnerabilities - fire and rock, to represent melting and grinding sugar, which are processes that basically can't be undone other than by using the other. When I wrote up a cosmic type, I had ground resist it, though to be fair mine was much more based around the idea of Celestial bodies than etheric elements specifically. I also feel like ground should just have some additional bulkiness
12:10 can’t relate. When I was 9 there was no UA-cam and we had dial up, god I feel old now 😭
The last gimmick is clearly the best and that would change the way we play in a really good way. I also like the Limit Breaker limit, it's a cool idea and i hope fusion will never be a real thing.
Maybe fire/grass could be a double battle gym? I think that’s where the synergy between those two types really shines.
fusions could work as a ultra beast/paradox pokemon but not a battle gimmick. they couldnt give all pokemon new forms, like teraform, zmove or gmax I could see: - a mix between teraform and gmax, where they are normal moves but with extra effects. like teraform, this doesnt peeter out. Like fire moves have chance of burn. Bug chance of slowing down (like webs) - something for abilities, while you cant make unique ones for every ability, you can have a default omni-boost or something - summons, maybe like a subsitute, each type can have their type summon (like all electric types can summon pikachu). - field gimmick, all types can have their own type field - 3rd type, this exists from some moves such as trick or treat and cursed forest or something. I figured this wopuld be limited to abilities and moves but given teraform, i think a battle gimmick would make sense.
I think Light type being resistant to Ghost is a great idea.
6:39 Wait- isn’t that one animation where Victor and Nessas Pokémon’s accidentally caused destruction to the local soccer (and technically pokemon battle) Studium? (it’s the one made by @PringusMcdingus.)
Love the video as always! Im honestly a little bit of a hater on the current gimmicks. I agree that theyve been somewhat unbalanced or too offensively focused except terastallization (but im not a fan of the aesthetics...oops). I do like the idea of some kind of limit breakish gimmick. I think it could be tough to balance if you fully hit a limit break with a powerful buff that prevents the opponent to achieve it tho. I think more of some kind of scale where the battle can start to tip in favor of either trainer to give them bonuses based on how far theyve tipped in your favor could be interesting and could allow different strats to work. Idk all the logistics to make it work tho.
Yeah tera is cool but the hats look very dorky :3. Megas are probably my favorite as it's basically just adding some new Pokemon, and I love seeing the types and abilities change. Was a bummer with Gmax that neither of those things happened (but that'd probably be OP)
@PokéThink oh yeah! Stylistically the megas were by far my favorite! Type changes made for some sweet pokemon!
I had the idea of a potential "Magnetic" type for quite awhile. I conceived it originally as a counterpart to the Electric type as it would be both super effective against and weak to Electric due to magnetism generates electricity and electricity generates magnetism. It would also naturally be super effective against Steel, but I made it super effective against Fairy as well as it could be treated as a stand-in for a science type. It wo To balance Magnetic, it would be weak to Dragon and Psychic (which does need a buff) while being resisted by those two types, Rock, and Fire (I originally was going to make it weak to Fire, but that would made Fire too offensively strong.) As for which Pokemon get the Magnetic typing, any Electric types that associate with light become dual Electric-Magnetic types as light is composed of electromagnetic waves/particles (Ampharos, Luxray, Blitzle), any Pokemon using magnetism become Magnetic (Nosepass, Beldum, Magnezone), and any Pokemon linked to aliens/space become Magnet (Clefairy, Deoxys, Beheeyem).
>Under appreciated >Gengar We all know which Pokémon the new gimmicks are for and it’s not the “under appreciated” ones
okay yes Gengar was a bad example (a product of writing the script and then adding the visuals separately - when adding visuals, I just wanted to use a pokemon that had both a mega and gmax) but I do think the gimmicks can make underappreciated pokemon shine. Mega ampharos, Mega Pinsir, Mega Manectric, Mega Mawile, Mega Banette, Mega Lopunny, Gmax Kingler, Gmax Gabodor: these are all less popular pokemon that got revitalized by these gimmicks
Remember when swsh was being revealed before dyanmax was introduced, people thought, we'd get pokemon armor like mewtwo in the movie? Tbh I think thats a cool idea
Tera is DEF not ballanced, its just based of lucky, i dont know how tf a gimmick that the only strategy are luck is ballanced
5:26 pulverizing pancake slander will NOT be tolerated
they could honestly just give you the option to use all the current ones or megas since this is the ultimate game
I only really like megas and Gmax specifically because they only apply to certain Pokemon. I'd rather only certain Mons get completely unique new forms with new designs than something generic and broad. Terra also just looks goofy
If everyone is super, nobody is super. That's why Megas being exclusive for some Pokémon is indeed a good thing, because it makes it feel special . Moreover, because of that Megas were the most balanced gimmick since they only had to balace some Pokémon instead of all.
Except only like three megas were viable, so they failed at that. I far preferred z moves because anyone could use them. It meant I didn't feel like I had to specifically have a set aside mega in my team. I hated feeling trapped into certain pokemon, or feeling like I was wasting a resource I needed to use.
Problem with mega is that only a really small pokemons could have, they should at least put in New pokemons
13:13 um akshually The term "bug" refering to computer bugs doesn't originate from a literal bug being stuck in a computer. The word "bug" was used by engenieers from the XV-XIX century, before computer science was a thing. During this (and prior) period, germanic folklore (and thus english) had a great amount of sprite-like evil spirits refered as bugbears, similar to hobgoblins, imps and those sort of mythical creatures. It was thought that machines malfunction due to bugbears messing with them
I beieve that if the light type were to exist, it could be super effective against fairy because throught history the church has always have unsavory feelings towards fae or pagan beings. Calling them evil or demonic. Light type can represent things that are deamed holy and pure. While being one of the elemental types like fire, water and electric.
One thing I didn’t like about Dynamax, more specifically Gigantamax, is your starter didn’t get the ability to Gigantamax. I was never into G-max Pokemon like I was with Mega Evolutions, mainly because i didn’t even know how to get a G-Max Pokemon until long after I played through the game, but i think if they did this it would’ve introduced and allowed everyone to experience the G-Max part of the mechanic
I think the most important thing a gimmick can have is counter play after it’s activated, which is hard to balance while also feeling powerful. I don’t love the limit break idea because while you have to play well to activate it, once it is active, the game is basically won. I think a good idea for the next gimmick would either be super abilities, enhanced versions of their current ability or a power boost that gives the pokemon raw stat boost depending on what pokemon they are/their item. both can only be activated once per battle.
NO MORE DEX CUT IN ALL THE FUTURE POKEMON GAMES!
Forcing a new mechanic every gen us getting unubstainable and very forced
The only gimmick I want in every game is Megas. Make the most popular 10 mons from the previous gen into mega in the next gen. That would give us 90 megas for Gen 10.
I think that would be cool a gimmick inspired of flying press (two type at the same time) but as the difference you can choose the type of the move before attacking.
my favourite concept for a new type is Adept Charon's Rubber-type
Not one, not two, FIVE NEW TYPES CONCEPTS? Satisfactory My favourite is definitely sugar, i just love anything that is themed around sweet foods
one PokéTuber who was super active back in the day pointed out that Yveltal, when it had its wings folded back, looked like a tuning fork that had me all like 😮😮😮
This is one of my new favourite Pokemon videos. It feels like no one's gone through all the fan types with a "I wonder how this could work" rather than a "There's no way any of these will work" lens. Techno and Aether were definitely my favourites, very creative!
I really appreciate this!
the missed oppurtinity to add the truly evil GOAT black sludge, merciless (ability) baneful bunker toxic stall toxipex to the evil team
Being honest, thinking about a unic gimmick, I think a reversion gimmick could work, it could show an animation of a clock going back and then your pokemon is reversed, now it's weakness and resists are flipped, and it's moves also have these effects against their opponents, we already saw something similar, but in this case would be just some specific pokemon
'Food' would be funny as a category type for Pokemon, like how 'sound' currently is for moves, but there really isn't scope to make it its own full-fledged type. It doesn't help that "Pokemon eating each other" is exactly the sort of weird question that The Pokemon Company doesn't want people to think about too much, and making some Pokemon explicitly 'food type' just draws attention to that.
Dragon is already a 'quintessent' type that beats the 'four elements' of Pokemon (Fire, Water, Grass and Electric). Aether would be redundant.
Dragon is resistant to these types, but not strong against them
Doesn't the "techno" type run into the exact same problem of overlapping far too much with the existing Electric and Steel types i think your justification of steel being 'natural' metal doesn't work. steel is, definitionally, an artificial type of metal. the name of the type already includes artificially metallic pokemon, and some of the very first steel types were explicitly old pokemon given a literal and figurative 'metal coat' that applies when they're traded. (trade evolutions are more open-ended these days but back in the first few gens they were 'artificial', sometimes explicitly claimed to be based on some kind of energy transfer that happened during the trading process. you didn't see those final stage pokemon in the wild because they were only possible due to human intervention.)
What an insanely well done first video I would not have thought it was your first video. I was listening in the background whilst playing and that shocked me cos your commentary flowed so well, great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The only opportunity to introduce techno type was this gen with all the future paradox mons being techno. It also makes sense to introduce it like “whoa look they discovered a new type in the future!”
That's a neat idea!
Hey, a very similar subject to something I suggested on the New Pokemon Types video! Not sure if it was coincidence or not but love to see it either way! I think adding the Sound and Light types with no additional battle gimmick would be fun. Two additional eeveelutions are a must in this scenario!
Haha, yes I remember seeing that comment but not wanting to spoil anything :)
@PokéThink How about a video on your wish list of new Megas for Z-A? Looking forward to all of your new content!
@@unoriginalandrew I'm not much of an artist, so I'm trying to stay away from concepts that might require me to show some art or fanart. I think I'd do better to continue posting mechanic and teambuilding videos. But who knows!
I’ll be fairly honest and say that I reeeeeaaally don’t like the concept of Light and Sound type, mainly Sound. I think that if they were to add another type they should take inspiration from other RPG’s. My issue with Sound and Light fits with my issue with that. Sound is made by literally everything, Normal types feeling like they already are the designated sound type, and it just takes away from what could make Normal types unique and just makes them even more bland. As for Light, it feels generic as well. It’s just light. I get the “opposite” of dark, but thats already covered by Fairy, Psychic, and Fighting for all different reasons (Evil vs Good, Distrustfulness vs Knowing (as well as using psychic abilities to *see* in the dark, and Underhanded tactics vs Honor). As for one that I think would be cool to see, would be a Time based type. It could be called Chronos, and like most abstract types like Dark and Fairy, it can be both literal and figurative. Obvious Pokemon to get it would be Celebi, Dialga, and Baltoy (For whatever reason Baltoy can just time travel. I assume Claydol can as well). Even though that seems like a few, thats where I think the more figurative Time based aspects could work. Elgiem and Beheeyem could work as a reference to how generally Aliens have been seen as ancient creatures, and in that same vein Golurk, Cofagrigus, Relicanth, and other implied ancient Pokemon (Not to Fossil Pokemon or Past/future form Pokemon for 2 reasons: Technically the fossil pokemon wouldnt be ancient at that point, but just preserved at a frozen point in time. And for Past and Future form Pokemon, they don’t stand the test of time, they changed over the millennia for the past forms, and as for the future forms they are man made creations and just cause they were brought back with the help of time travel, it doesnt mean they did it on their own) Ancient Pokemon that stand the test of time, or Pokemon that can affect time itself would be really really cool to see. And if you think the type chart would be impossible I have that as well. Offense: 2x Steel - Without careful refurbishing, metal rusts and degrades over time Fighting - Fighting over a long period of time causes you to get tired and fight more ineffectively Ground - The use of Sand in hourglasses “trap” the ground, and if thats not good enough for ya, over the course of time, new ground covers the old ground, turning it into rock. And if done by a ground type, it wouldnt be as agile as it’s supposed to be. Fairy/Dragon - Both for the same reason which is why I lump them together, people forget myths and legends over time, which is what Fairy and Dragon represents. Or just a not believing over time. .5x Offense- Rock - Rocks don’t really change over time at all unless affected by outside sources like water and air, if just affected by the concept of time, It’s still a rock [And same reason why Fossils aren’t Chrono type, figuratively Freezing Time] Ice - Same reason as Rock’s second reason, its a very good way to Freeze things in place, if that thing frozen in time was affected by time, it would stay the same and remain unchanged. Psychic - Psychics can “see” through time, they can see the future so the power of time would be pretty ineffective against them. Ghost - Kinda the same concept as Rock, put a ghost through time, it’s still a ghost. And Ghost’s tend to be represented as a snapshot of their era. Staying the same no matter how much time goes by. Grass - As time goes on, plants get unkempt and stronger unless actions are taken against them. In many apocalyptic scenarios in the future, a common trope is the “plants are taking over cities and claiming their rightful place” Defense: 2x Ground for the same reasons as why its strong against it Ghost - While Time can’t affect ghosts, what can a ghost do to time? They both can’t really do a whole lot to each other. Dark - How do you get out of the dark using time? You make it day of course! And if you see Dark as more of the evil type, time changes people (hopefully for the better) So dark wouldnt be strong against Chronos Fairy/Dragon - Again, time makes these guys less affective. .5x Rock/Ice/Psychic/Grass- same reasons its not effective to these types Water - Similarly to Grass, time only benefit’s water’s effectiveness, being able to erode more over time, but unlike Grass, Water itself doesn’t really benefit defensively through time. The water cycle doesn’t produce more water, unlike how Grass is able to grow more over time. So time is weak to it, yet isnt offensively weak to it. I am typing this all off the dome at like 3 am so idk if all this makes sense, buuuuttt I think its cool and could see it happen
Alright. I've been thinking about fusion. If you want to have fusion in a game you have to limit the number of pokemon, maybe about 150, also limiting it to only fully evolved mons cuts down that number again, maybe limit it further. The region this happens in should only battle in double battles. Ever. To fuse two pokemon they have to: 1. Both hold an item, let's say a 'fusion crystal', which normally acts like a type boost item for one predetermined type (fire fusion crystal, grass fusion crystal). 2. Both mons have to know the move "fusion", which may also be a way to limit which mons can fuse by who can learn it. The mlve has to be used by both mons on the same turn, basically like setting up an effect or boosting. The result: a pre-designed fusion-mon with the better stats of each mon, a new, fitting ability and the six remaining moves of the fused mons. Gets the typing NOT from the fused mons, but the crystals used to fuse. That way this mechanic basically becomes a combination of terra and mega. Pros: powerfull pokemon with six moves and chosen, boosted typing. Cons: sacrifice 1 move for 2 pokemon, sacrifice a whole pokemon out of six (or four), spend one whole turn for both pokemon setting up the fusion AND no held items other than the type boosting fusion crystals.
Bro, I just hope the games get the time in the oven they need. I don't want another Sword/Shield or Scarlet/Violet; I want something polished that shows that the Pokémon Company actually cares about the fans.
I agree that they would never do it, but I find it hilarious that in an All-Gimmicks scenario, it could theoretically be possible (balancing and limitations notwithstanding) for me to, for example, have my Houndoom Dynamax on Turn 1 with a G-Max Flare to activate the sun, then Mega Evolve on Turn 2 to take advantage of Solar Power, and Terastallize in Turn 3 with Solar Beam for instant STAB. Like it would never happen the way I described but the mere idea gives me a good laugh.
