A Trip to Ambleside/Bowness/Windermere (1975)
Cleaned it up a little and increased frame rate to 50FPS.
The transfer of the (Super 8?) film to video had a lot of duplicate/blurred frames. I was able to take many of them out but many remain hence the artfacts. But overall I think it looks pretty good.
From BFI site:
Members of the Merseyside Society for Deaf People enjoy a glorious sunny day for their visit to the Lake District, recorded in this short colour film. The group gather at Ambleside before taking a trip on a Windermere pleasure boat, the visitors signing to each other as the lakeside scenery glides by. Finally, everyone reassembles by the coaches to chat and converse before the return to Liverpool.

Royal visit outside Town Hall - Barrow in Furness (1903)
Переглядів 4 тис.2 роки тому
Restored and colourised. Royal visits were popular in the town because of ship launches. In this case it was HMS Dominion and the visiting royal was HRH Princess Louise, eldest daughter of Edward VII. Will have to wait until the technology can work with specific colourisation (the Alderman are in red I'm informed).

Workers coming out of Barrow Hematite Steel Company in Barrow-in-Furness (1902)
Переглядів 4,3 тис.2 роки тому
From BFI website "This is one of the least crowded and best-behaved of Mitchell and Kenyon's 'factory gate' films (the space between people is striking). It was commissioned by the prolific Ralph Pringle. A bowler-hatted showman is visible to the right of the arch. The rather touching second shot of a lone, uniformed man (a decorated veteran?) is enigmatic now, though perhaps self-explanatory t...

Barrow-in-Furness 1901. Workers at Vickers Maxim. From Mitchell and Kenyon archive. Colourised and reprocessed. A little bit too many artefacts from the AI but still watchable.

Colourised snippet from the film Shipyard showing Paul Rotha's "fast cutting" montage clip style. At one point there is a poster advertising a "Hospital Parade and Carnival" for Saturday July 7th. Saturday 7th July making the actual year of this clip 1934.
Flax and Jute Works in Barrow-in-Furness (1902) 50fps
Переглядів 38 тис.3 роки тому
Restored and colourised film originally shot in Barrow-in-Furness by Mitchell and Kenyon in early 1902. Workers from the Flax and Jute Works on Hindpool Rd. From BFI site This example of the many 'factory gate' films made by Mitchell & Kenyon shows a largely female workforce, which helps to identify the unnamed factory as the Jute textile works. The showman, in a bowler hat, glances at the came...

Lovely! I have walked across that bridge many a time as a girl born and raised in Barrow. I worked at the shipyard right out of school on the PBX switchboard! Emigrated age 18 to Canada in '72... I do miss Barrow, the sea, the people were great back then. I've seen videos of it's decline, it's very sad. Happening everywhere, even where I am in Canada... damn politicians ruining our lands near and far! Thank you, brought back warm memories. ♥
Please find more of this.,...
I worked there back in the early 90s and remember that noise when it was end of shift and the swarm who erupted from the gates...i remember seeing at least one bloke getting knocked off his bike by a car and heard of another who pinched some lead and wrapped it round his body but fell over on the way out ,couldn't get up and was nicked
Interesting!😀🔥

brilliant footage, true hard workers that built up Barrow from a village to the pinnacle of the nations nuclear deterrent builder.
Some women hid their faces , as they did in a film shot in cairo , in 1920 ,that i saw on yt . Even some of the men did that . Back to Barrow , a great post . Thank you .
This was their world. No holidays in Spain, no issues with wifi dropping out, no particle filters clogging up, no air conditioning breaking down when you need it.
What superb footage.
These women are not Muslims. They are wearing shawls over their heads to keep warm.
barrow sex building yards.
سبحان الله نساء خجولات ومحتشمات غاليات
Worked at vickers 2001 ish.. on the hms bulwark, & a submarine... (& it was grim) Great footage
When Britain was slim
Most of the young lads would've died in WW1.
At around 1:53 on the left side was that a pickpocketer?? 💀 I would not be surprised if it were since people would find other venues of getting money out of people during that time
Could very well be... or could be one of the stunts that often Mitchell and Kenyon would employ for comedic effect...
when britain was great.
Which country was this ?
England
Thx for clarifying 🙂
La mejor la niña con sombrero marrón. Protagonizó casi toda la película y es como supiera para siempre sería vista
These are the people that built England. Contrary to the revisionist historians.
Women at that time, like moslem

Brilliant stuff Neil . Great playing.
Thanks man! How is the piano playing coming along?
I’m still plugging away. Playing loads of drums and singing lead these days with a band called The Grateful Dudes .
Hallo Neil, wow the proper old days .
Up until the 80s, when most things were made in what was then called industrialised countries, making things equalled being developed. Now developing countries make most things, and developed (formally ca.led industrialised) make very little, other than agricultural products and "knowledge".
hey,thanks~ hw pro edition- Neil~=))
thanks! Not my best work but I think it improves on the original without too many detractions...
😊 muito lindo gostei de ver
I really enjoy these old videos. Pity they didn't have sound as there would've been quite a mixture a accents between these workers. Workers came from all over Britain to Barrow, about 4000 Irish, 3000 Scots plus many from North and West Midlands (particularly Staffordshire and Worcestershire) were living in the town in 1901.
A lot from Cornwall too... can you imagine... my ancestors were from Cornwall, Armagh, Hawick, Salford, the North east and the like...
Amazing, like watching from a time machine.
I wonder how many of those people would be exiled, killed or drafted during the two World Wars to happen in decades ahead.😢
What was the deal with the guy who grabbed the woman? He grabbed her by the arm then she ran off. Strange. This was very interesting to watch.
part of the play acting... the company doing the filming would employ similar staged scenes for comedic effect.
@neilloughran4437 gotcha, thanks for the reply! I didn't know that was a thing.
She wasn't acting appropriate he was telling her to leave
