How to fix a leaky Karcher K4 pressure washer
I am showing here how to repair a Karcher K4 pressure washer Compact (model number 1.637-311).
I tried to use it and it was leaking. This happened either because of water freezing in it, or because of a shock (when it sits upright I tend to just give it a kick so that it goes down flat so I can use it).
The pressure washer had a crack on the side of the manifold / control head.
The part that I have replaced is: “GENUINE KARCHER Control Head 9002029 9.002-029.0 - 22mm”
I found it on eBay and it was about £30.
Make sure yours is the right one based on the Karcher model number.
Once you assemble it back you need to bleed it for air or the Karcher will not start.

    I got one as a gift and it stopped working after a couple of years..this is why Americans are broke they find the most expensive way to do something. A regular soap dispenser works just as well for a fraction of the price...

    I'm fixing a similar problem with my K4. Building it back up in the head of the pump there are 3 little springs and little white plastic valves in the middle. What goes in first? spring or white plastic piece with spring on top?

    Thanks for this. I had the same issue, motor just was silent. Opened it up and didn't quite get into the glued bit when it just started working again. For anyone else, after you open the first part, before you get into the difficult glued part, bang the motor section a couple of times on your table, not too crazy but enough to jog a stuck motor. It might just start working again.

    Thanks for _not_ editing away the effort it took ! ☝️Tip: heat (60°C to 80°C) soften most types of glue without damaging most plastics used in household products. Apply gently, careful with heat guns. An hour in an oven works wonders and will not harm the battery.

    I am super pleased to have these videos to look at! Tyty! Got mine apart now after the same LED behavior shown in video part 1. Weirdest thing for me is everything tested fine, put the board and plugs back in, unit started working normally again??? Guess the board needed a full power cycle? ...But any problem that goes away by itself can come back by itself... As nice as that is, hard to see myself buying any of these again. I really liked it when it worked but the construction makes it disposable. What is an owner suppose to do when the LiPo battery reaches End of Life? Can't put in a fresh working one without nearly destroying it. There is another model that uses four D-cell batteries but still, same argument works regarding pump failure or sensor failure.

    So I've only used this pressure washer one time. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP The one time I used it, it worked great. I recently had new siding installed but kept the old gutters and small areas surrounding my house that weren't replaced so they looked horrible and dirty because of the new siding. I needed to get it cleaned asap. When I used the pressure washer, man it just melted all the dirt and grime that was on those areas of my house. I used that krud kutter soap and it was over after that. Easy to assemble, feels durable, very simple to use. Also, I purchased a used one to save money and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I want to get more use out of it so I think I'll be washing the cars and update this comment as time goes on.

    Hi Could you please explain about the 22 mm and 20mm information. Do you mean the internal diameter of the hole? I need to buy a new part and my model is K4 Compact 1.637-313.0. If I bought the 22mm one and mine is 20mm for example would it still fit?

    • @gr8rwork828
      @gr8rwork828 Рік тому

      Hi! Version 2 measures 22mm on the outside diameter of the detergent intake, and the part number is the one I mention at minute 14:00. Version 1 measures 26mm on that outside diameter (sorry I think I said 20 on the video). I do not know if they are interchangeable, I would assume they aren't. Here are some links for the two parts (I am not affiliated with the sites): Version 2: germanpressurewashers.co.uk/products/karcher-manifold-and-pressure-piston-version-2-22mm Version 1: germanpressurewashers.co.uk/collections/unloaders-control-heads-1/products/karcher-pressure-washer-housing-pressure-controller-version-1-white-26mm

    How disgusting that a product that is at the top of the price range lasts only 5 year or so with no ability to service the parts. They could easily make this more modular but they choose not to. I guess they are expecting consumers to just add the entire unit to the landfill and purchase another. For this consumer what it actually means is that I won't waste another dime on overpriced, underwhelming Simplehuman products.

    • @CedricMcCay
      @CedricMcCay 10 місяців тому

      Yeah, I'm actually surprised that it's not very modular at all. People would gladly pay too much for those replacement parts. Somewhere they calculated that it'd be more profitable to peeve those people and just get others to buy a new unit? #NotMe I actually got mine replaced and the new unit works fine. But, that doesn't solve the problem of my ownership of a beautiful device which doesn't work beautifully at all. I'll keep using the replacement for as long as I can, but I'm not happy that I have to waste the entire unit. I'll look for a way to turn it into a 'pump' model or something!

    That's why a heat gun was invented. Shoot the heat on for a minute and it will release the glue hold. Nice to see the inside as I had to get mine open to unclog it.

    • @Chorca
      @Chorca 7 місяців тому

      On mine I tried using a heat gun, even heated it up to the point where it started to melt the plastic, but the 'glue' wouldn't release. Looks like on the newer ones they're using ultrasonic welding or plastic welding glue.

  • @Orlanzepol123

    Is it safe to run your unit with some diluted alcohol once in a while to make sure soap dies not dry up inside?

    • @gr8rwork828
      @gr8rwork828 Рік тому

      I am not sure that alcohol dilutes soap. Also, alcohol would be much less dense than liquid soap, so I am not sure if it would come through the pump. Last and not least, the way the pump works relays on some friction being created, perhaps not ideal to have flammable liquids

    Hello, great video from you. I have a problem with the soap dispenser. If the soap dispenser was fully charged after 2 days, the LED flashes red, which means that the battery is empty. Or am I wrong?

    • @gr8rwork828

    Thanks 4 vid. Observations always take pics b4 & during disassemble to help reassemble especially gaskets & connectors. I have an extra large white gasket left over. Mine was leaking around red gasket in botton where fill tube penetrates main body. Soap entered into motor chamber when overfilled. Will place clear rtv on bottom side around where red gasket and fill tube penetrate, since gasket may leak if I get it working. Suggest everyone do it b4 it leaks. Motor was rusted. Wire on motor corroded off, resoldered. Used staples and alligator clips to test battery & motor, both good 3.5 v battery & motor spins. When cutting seal to open easy to go too deep. There should be a lip on the top part that slides into main body. Easy to cut right through it when trying to open. Cut most of mine off but may not be able to be helped oy thickness of an exacto blade before to reach it. Flashing blue. SH site says flashing blue= charging. Like using battery to test motor if it turns, both are good. I used external 4.5 vdc to test motor & meter to test battery. But if it never reaches solid blue on charge, likely bad board. Verdict not worth taking it apart if broke as can't get boards and odds are between time to opened, better off buying a new one if out of warranty. Don't use soap with too thick viscosity water down slightly if needed. Too thin ejects too much, too thick will damage motor/control circuits. If you have others not yet broken only fill to bottom of fill tube and rtv around red gasket for insurance. It was fun and a challenge if I get it to work by some miracle, will spot seal with epoxy and clamps so easier to open next time. Don't seal completely around if you ever want to disassemble again to say, replace battery if everything else works. 😉
