    An truly amazing layout, you should be very proud. Would you mind sharing details of the backgound / back board spruce image you use. It really is very realistic.

    Beyond realistic.. One of the best of 5 I’ve seen … attention to details are visible.. and engine sound is surreal.. 💫✨🎯

    Unbelievable Logging RR Layout. Scenery, rolling stock, structures, figures and details are top drawer; only the prototype could boast more realism !!

  • @MarkInLA
    @MarkInLA 7 днів тому

    Aside from the rest of the excellence, I particularly want to commend you for your figures !! Too too many MRRs are ruined by poorly proportioned and shiny figures..Good to see real looking people for a change..(<Funny, I'd just entered this, then you cited the same thing at 16:59 a second later !).. It's surprisingly not a switchback, as is the usual arrangement of narrow gauge logging, but instead is an unusual looped affair.. One suggestion: I'd not have the straight edged frame at the very top of the scene divider, but rather an undefined tree line instead, then continue it up, say 8" more with light blue sky.. I only say this as the straight edge is the only thing (to me) contradicting the otherwise superior modeling work you've done..

    When I was a kid, there was a DC comic book, maybe it was "Ghosts", where there was a completely authentic looking model RR, grand scale, operated by little workers and figurines and such, ANYWAYS, some visitor came to view it from its creator and asked for a price, and he offered $200,000. BUT, the creator turned him down, saying it was his life's work. Shortly later, the bidder smote the Railroad man down when his back was turned, killed him, then started putting on the guy's RR conductor uniform even with the little hat, and everything. Later, when he fell asleep after playing and operating his little village for a spell, the little workers CAME to LIFE and smote the guy with their little HO picks and shovels and other equipment. Thus ended the story. I don't know if the original owner's ghost came back or not.

    I've been model railroading since being introduced to HO gauge by my father, in the 1950s. And this work of art is-simply put-one of the best, if not THE best, small railroad layout I've EVER seen. Such a joy to play the video over and over, so as not to miss any great details! My own grandfather, born about 1870, grew up to be a steam locomotive engineer, working in the mountains of Utah, up around Ogden. Oh, how I wish he could see this wonderful recreation!

      Hi - Thank you for those touching words, that was very kind of you to say. If you're on Facebook, I encourage you to check out the Wandering Spruce page for more pictures and updates! We just poured the water on the dock side this weekend and I just posted pictures of it now that it's all dry. We are bringing the layout to the "Worlds Greatest Hobby" train show at the Orange County Fairgrounds in SoCal on Feb 15th and 16th!

      Wow , My Grandfather was a Locomotive Engineer on the West Shore and Later the NEW YORK CENTRAL RR . He started work on the Erie Canal driving Mules towing Barges . He began working for the Railroad in about 1883 . He Retired from the New York central RR in 1937 . He never ran a Diesel Locomotive . He always Said " STEAM is KING" I have a Beautiful photo of him standing Next to a 2-8-0 locomotive with his crew . Photo was taken in 1904 .

    Thank you for taking the time to put together these UA-cam videos, including the still photos one taken during construction. I appreciate the extra effort over and above the excellent modelling that’s involved. I’m planning a similar themed layout but in HO narrow gauge so probably a tad smaller than yours. I was originally working on an around the wall modular track plan but I’m now inspired to follow your concept of two scenes back to back on a door sized baseboard. Eliminates all the track and electrical issues with module connections and it will be easy to work on as I’m in my seventies and too old to work on anything deeper than about 18 inches. So thanks once again for the inspiration and let’s hope California has recovered from the fires by February.

    • @WanderingSpruce
      @WanderingSpruce 15 днів тому

      @@ericbartolotta6567 hi! Yes. We used the "Bragdon Enterprises Rock" process. You can Google that and find a step by step tutorial on his website as well as some videos. With our layout being portable we didn't use plaster for our rocks. We used a hybrid resin/2 part foam for our rocks. So a plaster rock that would weigh 2lbs only weighs a few grams. Our whole layout is about 200lbs

    This layout looks incredible, absolutely stunning detail! The only thing I find questionable is why there is a coal bunker next to the railroad when the only two locomotives on the layout are a wood burning shay, and a diesel shunter? I'm guessing you have another locomotive you can run where this makes sense, or perhaps it's just a mild oversight?

    • @WanderingSpruce
      @WanderingSpruce 16 днів тому

      Vacuum and a little compressed air keeps it squared away! For the foreseeable future we rent a 15' Uhaul truck to transport it. Eventually we'll get a 12' trailer dedicated to hauling it... That's a ways off though. No cats haha
