Maybe Wichita is what happens if you were bad in your last life.
Moved here in 87;
It use to be great, now it's a hellhole! Growth isn't z good thing!
wtf happened to nice looking cities
How far she's fallen😢
Seems her beauty has faded a tad.
Stationed at McConnell. Forgot to mention it? What's up with that?
Downtown business and countryside living is close together, linked by short commuting times. Wichita is just the right size.
Born in SW Kansas in 70 and always came to Wichita for medical stuff as a kid. I remember seeing Century II when it was brand new.
A classic recruitment film. It stresses the positive aspects of a smaller city - short commutes and (in those days) lower crime rates. But it also tries hard to defy some stereotypes of a smaller city by playing up nightlife, culture and stylish young adults.
1:52 The Chief of Control. Who knew that he, Maxwell Smart, and 99 worked out of Wichita ?
I don’t see Burt Dingman & the Braidwood Inn. 🤷♂️. Great shower curtain rings though!
Where’s Doobie’s taxiola?
Golly! What happened?
I think I spotted a young BTK (infamous serial killer) at 3:37
Looking for new victims at Riverfest.
II lived there in the 70s.
Wichita is trash A city of 'men' raised by single mothers
Nice look back at Wichita in the 1970s despite the faded print. I was hoping to see a shot of the Derby Refining Co. oil refinery along I-35, but no such luck. Thanks for sharing!
Live in this city my whole life🙄 52 years… this was hilarious! 2024 and this city is a joke! Against casinos, Major attractions, best zoo in the country is cool though, no amusement park, boring, bad drivers, very stuck up spoiled aircraft workers proven to build crap airplanes, and outdated century 2, plus a city council and mayor with no ambition to keep up with the rest of the country!
Sounds appealing. The rest of the country is kinda sliding into the dump, in case you hadn’t noticed.
Wichita does suck, mostly because they considered casinos, the new arena, and rapid over growth, it was better when joyland, dragging Douglas, and local bars were available, people went to church on Sunday, kids rode bikes in neighborhoods, schools were better, there was no better place to be in the 70s, 80s then it went to hell!
I remember the 70s well and the world was actually that odd hue.
Yes, color TV's were not black and white, they were brown and orange.
The Land of “ OZ “ - right Aaa Shit ! Are we still in Wichita ? The Great Void ! Few have ever been able to find a way out. The great Bermuda triangle of the Midwest !
You dont have the rudolph one
I was there, 78-81, don't miss it.
You wouldn't believe it today. Forbes says 4th best city in the U.S.
@@MikeSmithEnterprises When I left unemployment was 2% there. I had a job within a few days of getting out of the AF! The employer was willing to wait a couple weeks for me and I went back to Ohio, but made the mistake of staying. I went back to Wichita after a couple years at home where jobs are few and far between and couldn't find a job in the printing industry. Wound up having mom send me money to get back home!
@@nutrinutbobsorry for such a bad experience... I was raised up in the Douglass and Rose Hill area... and now live in Wichita where I commuted for most things I needed... I'm an aircraft mechanic and it's easy to find a job with 20 yrs experience...
Wichita has lost a lot of industry since NAFTA (thanks Bill Clinton). I remember in the 1980s there was so many businesses there and people seemed more prosperous.
It’s almost certain money was spread around more widely back then.
Don’t forget to thank George Bush, who signed NAFTA, and Ronald Reagan, who started negotiating it. I mean, don’t let Bill Clinton hog all the credit.
It was government corruption that got it passed. It destroyed the tax base gave us a huge debt. And probably the reason Joyland went under and the standard of living declined.
@@brianarbenz1329the damnable w was corrupt.
NAFTA was championed by the GOP majority under Newt Gingrich. Bill went along thinking the GOP knew what they were doing.@@brianarbenz1329
Hello! Can I ask where you found this video? I'm interested in licensing it from the appropriate person for use in a documentary. Thank you!
I hope that I never have to return to that shi*hole.
Witchita has a code enforcement officer that people are dying to meet.
no that was park city. just north of wichita a few miles.

Born in 77, moved to Wichita by 79. My formative years were there, and I've missed it every day for 35 yrs. Moving back.
It’s a sh**hole now
@@Ghosthopper I moved back a few years ago and I disagree. There are a lot of modern amenities, and the city has grown.
Until you people learn how to pronounce the Ar-Can-SAW river, you'll always be the laughing stock of America.
Interesting...but this 'redscale' video could use a little color correction :-)
This is my town!! Born 75'
I've lived in Wichita on and off since 81
You definitely live on Seneca street.
Where did you find this video?
Wichita, forced busing in the 70's.. lol

Brings back memories
Hello. I'm thinking about doing a documentary on the Serpent Intaglio of Lyons, KS. I would love to use footage from this video and some of your other historical footage. I couldn't find another way to reach out.
I'm currently looking into being able to see the serpent site. I live in Lyons myself, ill let you know if I make any progress!
Hey I live here
Long shot here, but I'm trying to find the serpent intaglio that's supposed to be north east of Lyons. Do you locals know where it is? I can't find much online about it.
@@johnbarbour5258 sorry but I've never heard of it
@@johnbarbour5258 it is on private property, and at the present, the current owner just died. You would have to get permission through his family. It is north & west of Little River.
@Cyndy Landon hi, I live in Lyons and I'm also interested in learning more about the site. Is there anyway I could email you or get in contact with the family that owns the property? I have a slight interest in archeology lol
@@joseluissaenz9581 I would start by going to the Museum. They have a lot of information. Waldo Wedel , archeologist, led extensive excavations on the intaglio and surrounding area. He was from Kansas and also worked ith the Smithsonian. I think he wrote publications on it. Michelle Miller, Little River, owns it. Her husband just died a month ago. There may be horses on the pasture property right now, but I don't know. I don't have a contact # for Michelle.
Pretty funny to watch, especially being born and raised here. Still here too. I recognized several faces in this too. Jim Hershbergers former home. Jimmy, Mike, and Erin were all friends of mine. Went to high school 70-74' and it's grown a lot since this. But still has a small town feel.
K remember Coleman junior high. John cauthorn talking about hershbergers house. In vickridge I thought. He had something in the Wichita paper about things he did on his 40th birthday. I'm gonna beat all that on my 66th birthday . Probably not but you never know.
Btk territory
Only thing about btk why didn't Wichita police reach out to better detective. Colorado Springs. Born in Wesley hospital.
they never would have caught him if he would have kept his mouth shut.@@robertpolnicky7702
Being a fellow Wichitan, seeing all the buildings down town still there is awesome!
I’m surprised some of them are there still with all these renovations going on
@@NEXEP. Some are eyesores and need to be taken down.
When I was a kid 1965 I liked that Purina building. Between Douglas and central ..... looked like it had some age to it. 1800s .... I don't know.
Very interesting. I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.
