Kidd had no issue with 'Privateering'...because it was legal if you had 'Letters of Marque'..documents issued by the admiralty/King..Kidd had those..however those documents disappeared prior to his trial. Guess where those documents turned up..Lord Bellomonts personal effects nearly 300 years later...Bellomont stole and hid those letters of marque..Kidd was hung as a pirate..when in fact he was not

There's always some kind of "extra" feeling you get when you hear about Captain Kidd and his adventures, and then his demise.

My family owns a large track of land next to Jean Lafitte state park in Louisiana... Several people have been lost on our land and nearly died; all have said they were "hunting". However a quick search on Google earth reveals a intriguing fact, the original canal from Jean Lafittes days is part of our property, he used this canal to avoid customs agents. The area is dangerous and un developed also conveniently a police station was opened across the highway near our property. Although treasures are un likely it would be great to search for historical artifacts, perhaps drones might help in the future. My real goal would be to trace the British Army's path to the Chalmette, this would require a lot of work and agreement from other property owners, it would be wonderful to locate some relics from their heroic, failed march on New Orleans.

This the exact part of the world (it is no where near Iowa) where I grew up and at 57 today is the first time I've heard this story.
