Caesar and his Legion: British Veteran Paratrooper in Ukraine
War. War never changes. Or does it? Who could answer that question better than Andrew Scott, callsign 'Caesar' - an experienced British campaigner who had deployments in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Africa and now in Ukraine, serving as a mortarman of the mortar platoon in the 2nd battalion of the International Legion. At 57 he is a living example that age is just a number if your heart and mind are in the right place. They say 'larger than life' about people like him. We had an exciting conversation about wars, about experience, about culture and history and, of course, about how the old tricks can still play a role in a modern warfare.

During the Ukrainian counteroffensive of the Summer of 2023, the spotlight was mostly on the Southern front. So the enemy wasn't expecting a daring assault in the East, right on the outskirts of one of their ca...

Just another hired killer who thinks he is on the right side of history. On his own account he is not clued up on history - he certainly do not know the history behind the war in Ukraine - it is the West that is the aggressor here and Ukraine is used as a proxy.

"We should really learn from history" Andrew Scott, callsign 'Caesar' Charge of the Light Brigade Alfred, Lord Tennyson I Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward, All in the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. “Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!” he said. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. II “Forward, the Light Brigade!” Was there a man dismayed? Not though the soldier knew Someone had blundered. Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die. Into the valley of Death Rode the six hundred. III Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death, Into the mouth of hell Rode the six hundred. IV Flashed all their sabres bare, Flashed as they turned in air Sabring the gunners there, Charging an army, while All the world wondered. Plunged in the battery-smoke Right through the line they broke; Cossack and Russian Reeled from the sabre stroke Shattered and sundered. Then they rode back, but not Not the six hundred. V Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon behind them Volleyed and thundered; Stormed at with shot and shell, While horse and hero fell. They that had fought so well Came through the jaws of Death, Back from the mouth of hell, All that was left of them, Left of six hundred. VI When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! All the world wondered. Honour the charge they made! Honour the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred! Written about events during the Crimean War, fought from October 1853 to February 1856 between the Russian Empire and an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, the United Kingdom, and Sardinia-Piedmont. Peace negotiations at the Congress of Paris resulted in the signing of the Treaty of Paris on 30 March 1856. In compliance with Article III, Russia restored to the Ottoman Empire the city and the citadel of Kars and "all other parts of the Ottoman territory of which the Russian troop were in possession". Russia returned the Southern Bessarabia to Moldavia. By Article IV, Britain, France, Sardinia and Ottoman Empire restored to Russia "the towns and ports of Sevastopol, Balaklava, Kamish, Eupatoria, Kerch, Jenikale, Kinburn as well as all other territories occupied by the allied troops". "We should really learn from history" Joan de Bermudez, callsign 'Brigantiae'

You are obviously a good soldier and this is very informative. Your ‘calling’ is to kill for money. It is sad that you trot out the same old cliché about Ukraine having been a sovereign democratic nation. Democracy was overturned in 2014 in a US orchestrated coup against the elected President. A democracy and President that even the most hawkish anti-Russian, Zbigniew Brezinski, described in 2010 as okay. Since then, far from being ‘sovereign’, Ukraine has been bossed about by the USA. Check out Victoria Nuland’s string-pulling of the new administration post-Maidan. The reason the youth have to be press-ganged to fight is because they know there is no benefit to Ukraine. Drawing the analogy with 1939 is lazy thinking. There is zero evidence that Russia wants to invade beyond Ukraine and plenty of evidence that they have no interest in doing so. Hence the peace plan March 2022 which guaranteed Ukraine’s integrity on condition they remained neutral. That was sensible. You’re right about football. Shaktar Donetsk & Dinamo Kiev are infamous as hating and abusing black players. That is accurately representative of the Nazo mindset. Were it to prevail in Europe, God help us. My deepest respect to you and I hope you stay safe but in some aspects you are seriously misinformed.

It is a shame that you portray the Iraq war as a legitimate action. It was purely an American maneuver that killed millions, and Ukrainians had become puppets. How narrow-minded you are to justify the Iraq war and Ukraine. If you think that way, then Ukraine's self-defense is also in question within this illogical reasoning. That's shame that Ukrainines was in Iraq in 2003

The Ukrainians haven't yet stolen his car, like they did to the Latvian. No wonder this is the war of the donations! Many of those involved in this war want it to keep going as long as possible, that's why the US and GB don't want, and frustrate peace agreements attempts, and why there's just never enough material. The billions are being syphoned from the western countries taxpayers and donators.

I have been deployed 3 times, 2 in Congo, so maybe we met there, I was there in 89, 90 and in 91 in Rwanda during the genocide, which was the worst from all, fighting next foreign Legionnaires, and 18 from our paratroops ambushed. I was there from 91 to 92. After that one, I became a reservist for another 5 years. Ha, he is as old as I am, so we must have met each other in Congo. Still have friends from that period. PS: my callsign was "Berty" I got it, from a strip book, Bert Bibber and Piet Pienter, but Bert Bibber was too long, so they gave me "Berty".
