Steam methane reformer? So it takes a 2000 hp motor to make methanol? And a high hp motor to burn it.. lol.. but that much motor for some chemical processing ? Jeez. A bit wasteful and overdone dont ya think?

hahaha, this is the main motor for the draft fan at HP-3 at the Martinez PBF plant! I worked there as an I&E tech. This exact motor failed to start multiple times during the shutdown we were trying to come up from. That shack on the left is the stack air sampling shack for emissions monitoring, and I led the team that installed all the new tube for the air sampling from the top of the stack down to the shack itself.

What happens if I stand in front of the cabinet while the motor is being started or stopped?
If there were to be an electrical fault that's where it could happen and you would not want to be standing there. Lots of current rushing into that location.
