Beauty and the Beast (1991) - Why The Prince Looks So Weird
Переглядів 547 тис.3 роки тому
Welcome to Friday Night Sleepover! Beauty and the Beast (1991) showcases some of the most beautiful animation in the Disney Renaissance, especially in the beast transformation scene. But, when the prince turns around we were all shocked to see a prince that just didn't look how we imagined. Who's the blame for this horrible offense? Let's look at the animation process, from animator Glen Keane'...
He looks like I’d imagine Giorno Giovanna in the Disney art style. He also has Renaissance looks, too. In all honesty? He’s just more unexpected after growing attached to his monstrous form. Add a thin mustache and a little beard resembling his hair from his Beast design and it wouldn’t look out of place.
🇧🇷🇧🇷 No! He doesn't look " weird" at all.🇧🇷🇧🇷
Honestly, dying in Zelda 1 in the later parts is almost just as punishing. Starting with a mere 3 hearts, having to backtrack to a fairy fountain, AND shoving out another 68 rupees for a new potion, not to mention 100-160 rupees down the drain for lightly tapping a Like Like, which are almost always in rooks filled with Bubbles that will keep you from being abke to defend yourself. Plus, the game can be really unfair in getting you hit with things that aren't really your fault to begin with. When you have 8 darknuts and several cannons in one room, the frame rate tweaks around like crazy and it's hard to respond to anything with correct timing. I think people just didn't notice these other ways Zelda 1 is punishing because they aren't as conventional as Zelda 2's.
The big one on Sunday will need a ride back tomorrow morning or Saturday Saturday night Saturday evening Sunday
He looks fine to me. I don’t think he looks weird.
Literally the best animation transformation scene in animation history. Look at many recent Disney movies today, DOES NOT COMPARE to this!! he’s straight up hot to me
My sister was terrified when human beast turns around and we saw his face
1:18 why you gotta give me ptsd of that horrid song
As a girl..... I kinda like how he looked, because he was different from the normal looking prince with exact same jawline, White teeth, and facial features.....etc
That scene creeped me out as a kid!
This is a *_you_* thing.
Great video and research behind it. I always thought this shot was kinda freaky looking. Good to know why.
Prince Adam (in his human form), is, in my opinion, the best-looking of all the Disney princes! Adam's face looks like this, probably because he's in shock that he has transformed back into a human, hence the wide eyes and the mouth being slightly agape. "The flared nostrils" could be an indicator of being overcome with strong emotions (e.g. when a person cries, their nostrils expand and contract, releasing mucus/causing the nose to run). This (the flared nostrils/crying) also explains the shakiness in Adam's voice when he says, "Belle,... it's me!"
How is he ugly😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
the pencil drawing is still funny looking
Nah!... They just made the Beast so handsome that his human form looked disappointing in comparison, but y'all are still not ready for that conversation.
To me he looked fine Lol
I guess I never thought that moment looked all that wierd. I read it as breath stopping elation and essentially mind blown surprise as the realization that he'd changed back hit home. The angle made him looks a bit odd, sure, but it would have been done for dramatic effect. If they had just had him spin around for a normal shot, I don't think that moment would have worked so well with the swelling in the score and the sheer punch of the climactic moment. i see what you are saying though. The shot and intention of it are not bad, it could have just been carried through better. Harder lighting would have also been much more dramatic than soft lighting there.
He looks fine. Roman features.
I don't like boys with such long hair externally. But when he ties his hair with a bow in such a baroque manner it's so much better
Now that Hoverbat's remake has been out for months, will you be revisiting this topic, possibly comparing it to what they did and more ideas on what could be done?
You mean I have to beat an even more difficult Zelda II?! (I kid)
@@FridayNightSleepover No, really. Play the remake. You'll be surprised by what has changed within it.
I think it's kind of odd to assume it was a "mistake"? Like if they wanted the audience's first reaction to be "now that guy is handsome" they wouldn't have underlit his face and had him turn around swiftly like a jumpscare. Belle has to have that moment of hesitation to show that her mindset isn't "Hubba hubba, I have been rewarded with a handsome prince for my kind deeds." Instead she is hesitant UNTIL she is satisfied that this is the same person as the Beast (by looking at his eyes--the only aspect of him that never changed.) And then she is ecstatic, not because he's handsome but because he's alive and happy. I mean, the movie's whole point was that a kind heart is more important than your appearance.
I had years ago, a game idea that have the 2 kinds of wiev game
Like, maybe if he had a beard or something I’d like his design a little better.
He looked fine and was more handsome to belle
I'm tired of people saying he's ugly 'cause he's really not, bro 😭
Ufff q buen video, solo falta una traducción al español, aunque si entendi lo que quiere decir pero aún asi muy buen videp
Idk, i still find the original pencil test looking weird, even with the proper shadows... It just isn't a flattering angle
Beast wasn't bad. He's just a lost man that didn't know how to be nice.
because they designed his human form after the beast one, probabily
I will probably never play this game again! I tried to give it another go a couple years ago. DONE!
Perhaps it's another reason why he looks so weird. I think it has to do with "body and facial hair"... it sounds weird, but hear me out. When we are used to see a man with thick beard and lots of body hair, he has more of a masculine and rough look, but then if that same man is completely shaved (in the case of him, he looks like a he completely waxed his face and his body) people are not used to it and they perceive him as too "feminine" or "weird" looking. I usually have a thick beard, but sometimes it's too itchy, every time I shave my facial hair, my face looks "weird"... I look like a child... even the girls that I work with telling me I look better with beard, even tho I'm still good looking, I'm told with beard I look handsome and without beard I look... "pretty" (not a great compliment for a man in his late 30s). The truth is, beard on men (not all the time, but in the majority of cases) looks better as it gives more of a mature, sexy, masculine and manhood look. It hides imperfection, makes his face more symmetrical and it can hide double chin. The prince having long hair and completely smooth, looks like a very tall muscular woman. Nothing wrong with that... but I think this the real reason why many people don't like him and yet they don't understand why. It's nothing to do with the lighting, because even when he dances with Belle at the end, he still looks a bit werid and off putting. We were used to see a tall, strong, super hairy beast... and then we ended up with a super smooth baby face man with long hair. Simple as that.
"Change back."
He was shocked that he can't believe the curse. Was Broken. Or the designer drew him like that
1:18 I was like, “haha good wish reference” but then I saw it was made 3 years ago
I've heard this sentiment before. I still don't get why people think he looks weird. Even in the forward facing reveal shot
She was 14! She was pretty young. I don't think she was "unrealistic" per se. She showed kindness and bravery even though she had been through so much (and only at 14). While that is RARE, it is not completely unrealistic. I've met people like that. I think it was a good example of being brave and kind regardless of your circumstances (a good lesson for everyone, not just people in that time and day nor just little girls who watch the movie). So, while she today may come off as weak, she is not weak; kindness is not weakness. Anyway, that's just a little part of my spiel. Good video, nonetheless!
Heh. "Weenie sword"
Prince Adam (Beast) never looked weird to me. He looks awesome and I love how I can still see some of the beast's face features in his human face. Like the forehead, lips and chin, the bridge of his nose. The structure is all there but now he is human again. I really love it. Prince Adam and Prince Hans have the best Disney Princes designs for me, they are my favorites.
Couldn't stand this movie and thought the TV-grade constant bounciness in the shallow animation was simple amateur
Am I the only one who liked what the prince looked like? …just me? Cool I’ll take the L.
I like his face
The point of the prince killing Ursula is to gain the king's respect or else the king would continue to hate humans....if Ariel kills Usrula, the king continues to hate the prince, if the king kills Ursula the same... ..the prince must earn the king's respect, otherwise he could never be with Ariel because the king would always oppose, and they cannot get together because that would start a war between humans and the mermaid people... I think Disney did think this better than the the rest.
This movie would have been even more amazing if we never actually got to see his face.
I remember as a kid thinking he had disproportionately large features because the film was trying to be historically accurate about how inbred European monarchies were😭
I've always thought he looked beautiful, like a greek statue. I never understood the hate he got
6:01 Omg what’s wrong with Belle’s eyes in this shot Beast’s human form wasn’t the only trip up lol
i remember being so disappointed and disgusted by the prince’s human form as a child
It’s because the eyes are too far apart
I find him so charming, he has a special beauty. My favorite prince.<3
