⁠North Islander here…didn’t even know that area had a name until I went to Google Maps 👍

You can still fly within controlled air-space without any special permits just as long as it's a "shielded" flight. Which means within 100m of a high obstacle e.g. trees or buildings and it doesn't matter which side the aerodrome is. And that there is also some sort of physical obstacle between the drone and the aerodeome which can be the same trees/buildings as your 100m one or something else further away. You still can't fly it over your neighbour's land (without their permission) or any roads (pretty much always). So you're probably ok, assuming you don't live right next to the runway, and don't fly above the tree-tops.

I totally agree with where you are coming from. As long as you aren't near an airport or restricted airspace you should get a flight number within 30 minutes or so after submitting. But from experience I can say if you are flying somewhere near to an airport it can take a few days or so. And remember not only do you need consent for the airspace you wish to fly through but also the land you wish to fly above. It can be really hard to find places to fly in New Zealand but when you do and get the shoot it is always worth it.

The best thing to do is go to their website and search for drones. Try looking at www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/parks-recreation/get-outdoors/drones-unmanned-aerial-vehicles/Pages/default.aspx You might not need a permit.

I appreciate your comment, but you must have consent about the land you are flying at all times, whether Public lands, like a park or beach. Or you are flying above private land like a farm or house. Ill be visiting new zealand for 5 weeks in 2 months and im really thinking about getting a drone before. I dont wanna pay 65 new zealand dollars for every little spot i wanna film

Most of the time you can find all the information you need e.g. a map saying which parks, beaches and green spaces you can fly above. if not there should be a phone number or email you and send any questions to. When using Airshare I usually give myself a week or so before. Witch gives me heaps of time to make any changes if I need to. The quickest I have gotten a response was 20 mins and the longest has been 24 Hours. I personally have never had any problems using Airshare and there has been a large update at the end of last year so hopefully this helps

HI Thanks, for the question. Basically, As long as you have consent from the landowner and you are not flying in any flight paths (You can check this on Airshare) you are good to go. You should have no problems flying in most parks or green spaces in Christchurch and Selwyn districts but if you are in doubt just ask the council(s) for clarification. Hi, @RiskyMirror6213 Yes you do. in fact, you can only fly up to 120m (400 Feet) if you want to go higher than that you need to get a 102 drone licence.

Hi, Sonny day, Great question. Whoever is operating the drone is responsible for keeping themselves and others safe while the drone is in the air. This could mean giving some distance between the drone and other people or letting them know before the drone is in the air. But at the end of the day, you could fly over someone by mistake without their permission. Simply land where it is safe to do so and go from there

@@ThomasCokerNZ they are cool! You can pick up a pair of goggles on Amazon for like $20. I suggest ones that you can slide your phone into, from the top, not the side. The litchi app costs $25. I have a Samsung phone with a usb c cable. I bought a 3ft usb c to usb c cable from bestbuy for $20. Litchi splits the screen for the goggles. It's not like DJi's goggles, but it's plenty good enough.
