Is it possible your computer hardware does not meet the games system requirements?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who actually liked Risen 2!

The sounds from this game, the cheesy soundtrack and the whistle of cannonballs flying through the air, have persistently repeated in my mind since I was a kid.

Seriously, this is one of my favorite games of all time.

Hmmm, just googling around it looks like the UseMM edit is for the game 'Sea Dogs City of Abandoned Ships' and not the first Sea Dogs game. General fixes for this sort of stuff, try using different speakers or headphones or plugging them into a different port. Update your computers sound drivers within the 'Device Manager.' In the 'Sound Settings' you can change the individual bitrate and Hz quality of your headset/speakers, perhaps a lower/higher setting here will correct the ingame sounds. In the 'Sound Settings' disable and/or enable the automatic 'audio enhancements' options. Your computer might also have some proprietary software that overrides the Windows sound settings, something like 'Realtek Audio Console' that may or may not cause the problems with Sea Dogs sound.

I'd say it's probably fine to use it during an initial playthrough, though the amount of additional content could prove to be confusing.

What operating system are you using? The video is using Windows 10 but I've just checked on Windows 11 and it looks nearly the same.

Unfortunately I only ever played the 'demo' version of the game that is shown in the video. An unlocked version was in the abandonware download I found but I was unable to get it to function.

I did manage to play up to the point where I visit Monquista for the first time before the trial week ended. The other sections of game stray away from a tropical theme?

@@scurvybanana We do visit skull island again where we go to a place called portal regal though if I remember thats around level 40. its full of the queens men so we have to hide that we are a pirate to get in. also do you think you could cover pirates of the atlantic or assassins creed black flag?

@@monecue9891 AC: Black Flag will definitely be covered at some point. This is the first I've heard of Pirates of the Atlantic, I'll make sure to add it to the list. :)

​@scurvybanana Well, for example, you visit Valencia during the Monquista questline, and that is basically Italy. Then the next world is Cool Ranch, which is themed on the American wild west. There's Mooshu, which is based on various Asian cultures... so yeah. It gets pretty varied lol.

@@scurvybanana np! i think while not perfect both wiz and pirate have very fun stories and are worth experiencing, one thing about pirate especially is that like many mmos it goes the silent protagonist route however the companions you get help give the dialog a good back and forth instead of just having a lot of text dumped on you, it makes the story more interesting imo

Fortunately, the devs have worked to ensure that the best gear in the game has no paywall as long as you have the worlds unlocked or membership. But for some of the most meta builds, some are pay to win. For example, it still costs 30$ to get the best gear for musketeers if you are running a hybrid build, which is one of the best in the game at the moment for pve. I do enjoy that pvp is slightly different than pve with couter builds becoming more and more prevalent. (I.e. using gun-wielding companions with abilities like quick draw (attacks first if shot at) and true grit (attacks if they are hit by an enemy gun) have become more popular due to musketeer being the most popular class.

@@michaelcumberbatch831 true the top tier bulids do tend to be atleast somewhat pay to win but there are plenty of solid builds for the casual pve scene that dont cost a dime, and this is where newer player find themselves most often, while theres always room to criticize and improve i think gear is in a pretty good place

@@dragonkin8442 Definetly is lol, I would say even the free to play gear is definetly good enough to beat the pay to win stuff at least 40% of the time. Gear is definetly in that sweet spot where it's somewhat worth it to buy gear, but the free gear is comparable if not better. I mean, on my max musketeer I have all free gear except for my chest lol. Plus the pet system being more community based rather than pay to win is great too.

In the future I'm planning to do some deep dive sort of videos about this very topic.

I've heard that the free content section used to go further but at some point they decided to shorten it. Seems like an odd move since as of now it feels like the only thing free is the basic tutorial but it isn't really enough of game to know whether or not you'd want to sub.

@@scurvybanana I've actually never heard that for p101! If that was ever true, I'm actually really curious how far it was. I feel like, at the least, they could make that first part for ratbeard free, where you help all of the poor souls he lied to (if i remember correctly, you can only help one of them. Which honestly as a kid I think upset me because again, I had been so invested in this story and world up to this point) I do always hope that one day more of each game will be free, even with the fact more content and parts of the story are still being added

That's exciting. I've actually had that one for awhile but never delved super deep into it. Is it the Panama DLC that features pirates?

@@scurvybanana Yes, the Panama DLC features quite a bit of piracy (you're not a pirate, you just interact with them). There's not much in the main game until you get to the port town. I loved both games - janky as heck, but one guy basically making his own immersive sim! Thanks for this review btw. The 360 store closes tomorrow so last chance to get the DLC. I bought it anyway despite the negative feelings, but I at least feel forewarned now - so this was appreciated.

The Two Worlds games seem heavily inspired by the RPGs made by Piranha Bytes and while they are still clunky I'd say they are typically better games - the series Gothic, Risen and Elex. I'd say The Witcher series also sits in a similar grouping. Maybe Fable? If you want it specifically to be about pirates it'll be a bit harder, as you'll be stuck with the Risen games and maybe Assassins Creed Black Flag. If you're deadset on giving the Two Worlds games a try I will say they go on sale for pretty cheap fairly often and while its an unpopular opinion I actually had more fun playing the first game than the second.

Maybe one of those sentences will appear in a follow up video to this, someday.
