X Country flight KYIP to KMRT with my son- watch the end- hairy landing. DA-40 w/ATC #aviation
We flew a DA40 from Willow Run Airport KYIP in Ypsilanti to Union County Airport KMRT near Marysville, Ohio. Live ATC with VFR Flight Following, watch the hairy landing at the end. We took off from Runway 23 at Willow Run, and landed Runway 9 at Union County Airport. KMRT is a non-towered airport, KYIP has a control tower. I'm wearing Bose A20's which are awesome. My son is wearing David Clark headset. We did not use KAP140 Autopilot as it was inoperable. We rented this plane from Crosswinds Aviation, where I was a student pilot until Sept. 2023 when I passed my checkride and became a Private Pilot (PPL) #aviation #studentpilot #crosswindsaviation #diamondda40 #da40

@21:10 - @21:18 "that's really all we need" - No it isn't. Think of the ATIS as tower instructions. Listen to the whole thing and if you miss something, listen again. Write it down as if you will be required to read it back. Then, when you claim "with Sierra", you have actually complied with the regulations. Otherwise, it is technically a violation. More to the point, there may be last-minute changes in the weather or airport status that you should be aware of for safe operation of your aircraft. So no shortcuts, because your ass is literally on the line. @21:41 "That way they know if you listen to it or not." That way they know that you have the latest information, and that way you know that the information has changed if you have previously listened to the broadcast.
