The Networking Channel

The NetworkingChannel began during the COVID pandemic, when traditional forms of community gatherings were not possible, as a twice-a-month informal online activity “to maintain and build our networking research and education community.” The NetworkingChannel is a series of events - organized as an online ‘channel’ - with events on topics of interest to the networking community, ranging from research, to descriptions/discussions of commercial networked systems, to global societal considerations, to education and careers in networking. mmm...How often do you survey your customers for a given marketing area to determine the best possible content library for just that area? This is a basic marketing strategy for any product? For example, McDonald's has menu items not offered in some areas? I seen some content that are not to my liking, disagreeing with my culture and etc... For example, some people don't like certain types of music, food, images and etc. Can AI be used to ensure best possible content library? In fact, most video game sagas and some movies have multi outcomes and path ways to different resolutions. Another use is some people like modern music, some like classical music and some like nostalgic music for background music. Can the work from Netflix be used? In fact, over time, region areas can become smaller and smaller to pin point the best possible content library. In the US, there is already diversity for a given region. I am curious why they manually split the video to compress individual clips with different bit rates. Encoders usually have a variable-bit-rate option that does the same?
As you said, encoders commonly have a VBR mode to allocate bitrates depending on the dynamicity of the scene. But, it does not leverage the direct correlation between bitrate and the resulting user quality of experience. By utilizing this additional information, we can allocate bitrates more aggressively in a way that does harm the viewing experience while saving lots of resources.
A good example is movies that utilize different color formats or use B/W format. The best example is Sin City which actually Gray Scale and on type of color scale. Some modern movies use several formats like DUNE 2.
