LL Cool J - Soul Survivor (Unreleased Original Version, Dr. Butcher & C4 production) (1993)
Original version of the song "Soul Survivor" produced by Dr. Butcher & C4, which was remixed by QDIII when it appeared on LL's 1993 album 14 Shots To The Dome.
"I produced a song called ‘The Soul Survivor’ for him on the 14 Shots To The Dome album, with C4. Me and C4 - the guy who did [Akinyele’s] ‘Put It In Your Mouth’ - were production partners. I was going to C4’s house one day to work on some music, and LL was shooting his first video from that album on Farmer’s Boulevard, and C4 lived on Farmers Boulevard at the time. I got off the bus and saw him and I was like, ‘Yo! What’s up!’ We was always real cool, whenever he had time he would always come see me, but he had been so busy we hadn’t seen each other in a while. So he’s asking, ‘Where you going?’ and I’m like ‘To my production partner’s house right down the street’. When we originally did the track, we sampled JDL from the Cold Crush Brothers saying, ‘The L baby, baby, the L baby, baby!’That was the first song I ever produced, I didn’t know how to use machines at the time. We had just got an Ensoniq and was learning what to do. It was rough around the edges. As soon as he heard the track he just sat down, got a pen and pad and wrote the song right on the spot. He was like, ‘Yo, we’re goin’ to the studio tomorrow, gimme your information.’ So I had to go get attorney’s and set-up publishing companies and we were in the studio the next day, recording. It happened that fast.
He’s coming off these multi-platinum albums and he was just a little nervous because everything else is all pristine and played with instruments, then you’ve got this other stuff that’s filtered and gutter-sounding, so he went in and let QDIII remix the song. I have to say I agree with LL for not using it! [laughs] He was like, ‘Because you’re my friend, I told Q I still want your name on it’, so we all ended-up splitting the production credits, but I was never that crazy about QD3’s version. Everybody that heard it loved that track, cos it had a street feel to it - they started leaking the song out and you would walk down Jamaica Avenue and frequently hear people riding by, playing our version of that song." - Dr. Butcher, from Unkut interview 11/7/2014 (unkut.com/2014/11/ll-cool-j-soul-survivor-unreleased-original-version/)

Bill Ill The Mack (Ill Al Skratch) Demo (1993)
Переглядів 2,5 тис.8 років тому
A post-W.I.S.E. Guyz, post-dissing Kane at his bday party Big Ill got an Unsigned Hype nod in The Source in 1993. This demo aired on the September 2, 1993 episode of The Stretch Armstrong Show on WKCR. Not sure who produced it, but since the Unsigned Hype column mentions that he already had The LG Experience doing the demo, I assume it's his work. Of course, Big Ill ended up hooking up with Al ...

A prime Uncle L takin' 'em to war. This aired on the 4/1/93 episode of The Stretch Armstrong, but I can't find any info on this track. I assume it's a Marley beat. Anybody with any information or insight into this, please get at me!
Hard 2 Obtain - "Bust Me Down" (1993 Demo, Uncleared Samples)

Another H2O demo, another where the original samples had to be replayed when it made the album (with Vinia Mojica taking over hook duties and Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains (!!!) taking bass duties). This is the original recording with all the direct samples in tact. Taken from The Stretch Armstrong Show on WKCR.
Hard 2 Obtain - "Street Dwellers" (1993 Demo, Uncleared Samples, Extra 3rd Verse)

The original version of "Street Dwellers" by Hard 2 Obtain with all of the original, direct samples in tact, plus an extra third verse. When Ism & Blues finally came out, the Stimulated Dummies had to replay the samples on this track and a few others. Taken from the 4/1/93 episode of The Stretch Armstrong Show on WKCR.
Kool Keith & Bobbito Buggin' Out on The Stretch Armstrong Show, 4/1/93

Serious question: Why hasn't Kool Keith been offered his own radio program? All the banter between Keith and Bobbito from the April 1, 1993 episode of The Stretch Armstrong Show. Stretch was suspended for the week for breaking a phone or something, so Bobbito and special guest Kool Keith held down the show with hilarious results. Some of the greatest banter radio has ever produced.
MF Doom - Gas Drawls (1994 Demo)

From the 12/15/94 episode of The Stretch Armstrong Show. This early version of "Gas Drawls" has Doom rocking a cadence similar to what he was doing in KMD. 1994 was the year Elektra canned Black Bastards due to the album-art controversy; Doom wouldn't officially drop a version of this track until 1997, by which time he was spitting with a deeper, hazier flow. Really interesting to hear this pie...

I'm cool like that, I'm style like that 😂😂
If Black Bastards had dropped in 1994 when scheduled (hopefully with better mixing) it would've been huge. Following the popularity of Mr Hood and the fact that 36 Chambers would've just warmed up the world for that style of rap. If subroc didn't die Doomsday wouldn't have been postponed so long and the whole album would've sounded like this I bet. And subroc would've had a wicked solo career too.
This record is RIDICULOUS!!
If there is an afterlife. I hope you're up there with your brother. Tell him all of your success. Your struggles. He's gonna want to hear about the supervillain. You and your brother will always be legends.
why does cancers sound so much better than ciggarettes
💥💥💥💥💥
we will always remember you villain, Rest In Power MF DOOM and Subrock.
iLL......B
This has a better beat bro
still goes hard
This version is far better than the other one
Kool Keith appeared on bobbito and stretch so many times in the 90s and he was fun and surreal to listen. even more so when he freestyle off the top off of his head. looking for the one where he disses TLC which features as a intro to Yo Black lol
Yeah, I need to make another comp of his banter soon.
I want to recreate this instrumental. I have every sample except for the main one 😫
I was just thinking the same thing. What have you identified? You can definitely here I'm bad and the sly and family stone beat. Main sample is ill and doesn't sound familiar.
If this ended up on Black Bastards, it would have been the best song on that, but Id have to figure he recorded this after Subroc died so I guess his delivery only became tighter.
Mr Nogatco
I like my lungs they let me breath
Ahhhhh Mecca Audio
It’s interesting how this was recorded in 1994 and Zev was already mentioning his new name, and shouting out monsta island czars before 1997. It’s like the foreshadowing of the next chapter.
Was ahead of his time yo
he had always had the nickname Doom, it comes from his last name
This is real hip hop ❤!!.. not today garbage hip hop 😂😅
The sound of the underground, i feel some nostalgia.
He sounds a lot more angry? I really don't know any other way to describe it
Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope
I identified 2 samples, Rhythm Heritage - Theme From S.W.A.T. and James Brown - Funky President
Great ear
Sounds like J was trying to "follow the leader" on this one, smh. Rakim has dudes shook.

This version sounds so much rawer. I love it.
He sounds like Rakim
Damn!!!!
L gotta lot dope unreleased tracks ❤❤❤
Just found out that this track was literally ghost produced by Subroc, which makes this even more eerie.
Interesting, what’s the source on that?
@@PaulPawlPallim curious too
@Jank9975 A closer friend of DOOM/Sub gave detail to this track and this Post- KMD era on reddit. I posted the link, but it kept getting deleted on here.
@@XyGemini can you drop the name of the post?
@Jank9975 Hot take: Even tho DOOM is finally getting recognition for being a master if not the master of lyricism, he still being VERY underrated as producer
A simpler, better time
personally i love the flow of this track more than the MF doom version. i love Doom's flow but his flow as Zev Love just slaps so hard.
Cool j. tribute trk ua-cam.com/video/67fRzDwZz4w/v-deo.htmlsi=MSYGs0y69VspKKFq
Probaly would have been on black bastards
Nah, Black Bastards was already set to go by mid-1994 before the plug was pulled. Promotional materials were circulated and artwork was laid out for manufacture, this track was definitely not on there.
@@PaulPawlPall naw I mean the prolly would have considered it
