    He is right you know, 44.1 sounds better. I worked at 48 for a year now and it's a hustle. And the analog gear likes it more, he's right with everything he's saying. Now for everybody who has their knowledge from a youtube video and not from the field-with trained ears for at least 20 years...laugh all you want

      I heard an engineer say TV commercials and incidental music has to be recorded with 48, this is only what the companies accept as the standard. Is this true?

    • @SG-4u
      @SG-4u Місяць тому

      You could test this very easy, and many, many, many people have. You can not hear a difference if you are a human. Your hearing stops at 20k (max, if you are a child with perfect hearing). The only reason to go above 40k is for headroom when applying anything that adds harmonics (which could hit the wall and roll back into human hearing range).

      You are probably using oversampling any time you are processing the audio, so pretty much it doesn't matter. All of the standards are way way way outside the range of human hearing. Except possibly this engineer's hearing which apparently defies physics and biology.

    32 bit when recording is a waste, nobody heard the difference to 24 and the DAW will upsample to 64bit internally anyway

    • @CarpPine
      @CarpPine 2 місяці тому

      24 bit audio refers to how the dynamic range of a sound is represented in the digital world - the volume resolution, if you will. 64 bit refers to the computer processor’s architecture and has nothing to do with audio per se.

  • @pham4925

    Why not 48 and 96? Sounds like AD specific preference. Last time I argued about it, I showed my boss an 320kbps mp3 and WAV and told him both were WAVs and he picked the mp3. He was a big proponent of using 96 in our studios. You can really go insane if you think there is merit in it. Recording live instruments is fine, but for regular work is a waste of space.

      Some distribution platforms only accepts 16bit and some upto 24 bit. But for UA-cam, 24 is a must . When it comes to mixing and mastering, 32bit is a no brainer 💁🏻‍♂️

      24 bits to avoid dithering when you record. you can bounce down the mix to 16bit at the end of you want to print to CD.

    I would see no difference of using 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. OPUS is a great lossy format, significantly better than OGG and MP3, but similar to AAC in terms of quality. Great use for broadcasting and music streaming. It's open source, but unfortunately it does not support 44.1 khz. Movies use 48 kHz, UA-cam uses 48 kHz (because they use OPUS, but at lower bitrates to save bandtwidth, but it's not a great audio source - still, there are a high number of people that use converters to 128 kbps MP3 44.1 kHz 🤦 ). But that 48 kHz is a divisor of 96 is not an argument, I think, because the sound frequency is increasing exponentially and not linear.

    This video is absolutely spot on. I've been working 3 years at 48k ... something just didn't sit right... Everything felt thin and open no body - too clean and "digital" - I checked a few of my mixes with A/B meter and behold the bass and snare had more body at 44.1

    He's not the only one to say (and think) that - people who do this for a living have preferences (if only shaped by the converters and other equipment they use). It is what it is - if you don't hear it, or disagree, move on - no need to be negative.

I’ve always been a fan of 88.2 on playback upsample of 44.1 cd’s and always prefer 44 (natural and smooth) to 48 myself… I can see where 96 has a level of realism that’s more exciting/ more overtones/ harmonic content than 88.2. I know a lot of people are going to roll their eyes, but I’ve seen a good bit of interviews with Jack and I love that he is so opinionated, confident, and eccentric. 🤘
