      @@teachthestory correct on the weights and limitations. I reduced weight forward of the axle to meet the limitations of the 4Runner. By removing one of the propane tanks, swapping to lithium batteries, and being cognizant of load planning. I used a tongue weight scale and it read 430lbs give or take a few pounds. I never experienced diminished braking or trailer sway even in windy conditions.

    Do you mean mega-BITS or mega-BYTES. Usually, Mbps means BITS while MBps means BYTES. I think your example of "118 Megabytes up" is actually "118 Megabits up", according to Starlink. Great video - very helpful practical experience.

    If I am on shore power for a couple of days my victron shows that the battery is off. Do you know if the battle born has an auto shut off if it is fully charged and I am on shore power?

    • @SlowYourRoll
      @SlowYourRoll 3 місяці тому

      I need to know more about your system but I’m not aware of a shut off on BB. They should always have a state of charge even if you are on shore power. You may have an inverter or switch that cuts off the 12V system when plugged in but the battery monitor should continue to read “13.2” as an example. In a linear example cable should go battery negative to shunt to negative bus bar.

    Great video, exactly what I was looking for. Starting to think that Airstream should stick to their traidtional travel trailers, No Basecamps, Vans, etc. Kinda been a big miss in my opinion. How does the Toyota 4Runner do with the 20X? Seemed to be a little nose down. I have a FJ Cruiser that is highly modified. Supercharged, Toytec HD 2.0 Rear Springs, ICON 3.0 Shocks, Timbren Bump Stops, Transmission Cooler, Larger Transmission pan, Regeared, Transmission Valve Body Modification (Wholesale Transmissions) , These are the mods that make it tow better. Have you done any modifications to your 4Runner for Towing upgrades?

    I can see the product link for the propane quick connect hose, but I did not see a link for the connector to use the blackstone. On the generator, can you run the AC off the generator? Approximately how long of a runtime do you get? (I know runtime depends on load) just wondering estimates. Great gear choices.

    We have been looking but have not bought. What we loved was how large the sleeping space is we are 5 11 and 6 1 . The wet bath space is adequate to stand in. The storage concerned me. The netting is cheap. It should be high grade like the survival bracelets. The bambi had more comfort and storage options except for carting gear like kayaks or bikes so we were back to the 20x basecamp. You can get the same lift on the Bambi its single axel, too, but no rear door. There are no exterior hauling options on the camper to carry those. So they would need to be on the vehicle. Not sure this is our final choice . We also plan to travel for extended time to visit grandkids for months at a time. For now, we have 3 yrs to decide. Gross vehicle weight is a big factor as well. Of course, from what I heard from the dealer in winter the water tank can freeze. Unfortunately this limits the use of the toilet to 3 seasons and the need for a casset toilet.

    • @SlowYourRoll
      @SlowYourRoll Рік тому

      The sleeping area fully assembled is a large king. Not sure if the physical dimensions off the top but it is really large. Storage is limited but there is a tow hitch that can be welded to the frame for a gear box or “Pack Mule”. It just takes some creative solutions. If you want a fixed bed and a little more storage I’d suggest Bambi or Caravel. Those would require a roof rack on your tow vehicle for gear. We camped below freezing and had no issues with the tanks. They have heaters and if you add some antifreeze to Grey/Black you’ll be ok. Just keep the ambient temp inside above 50 degrees.

    The issues with this BC has little to do with "Quality Control" and more, if not everythjng, to do with DESIGN. I cant even say engineering, because i really dont even see that given the petty issues. Given the pricepoint of AS models compared to competitors, it is obvious they are trying to milk/gouge customers hard... and that is unfortunate. I work in automotive Mfg and a $50k car is light years better in every way... and that shouldnt be. I highly doubt AS units are built by Swiss watch makers and their pay rates.

    Thanks for posting this. Excellent and helpful video. It's 2023 now and I'm about to dewinterize our Basecamp 20. What is that short hose that connects the water filter to your trailer? Looks like it's made up of two pieces. Where did you find those pieces? According to Airstream, we shouldn't use soap for gas leak detection. See 46 minutes into this tutorial: How to Dewinterize an Airstream in 5 Steps | Getting Ready for a Safe RV Trip ( ua-cam.com/video/iIf37pdQeBg/v-deo.html ) by Airstream Other areas Airstream recommends cleaning are the filters in the AC and the unit on top. They recommend hosing down the coils on top of the trailer if there's any buildup. I wonder if you wouldn't mind doing a video of the latter. I'm a bit nervous messing with the AC unit on top. ( Yes, I'm a subscriber. I used your winterizing video last fall. )
