How to Raise the Security Level of a Residential Door
A deadbolt can be defeated by lock picks, bump keys, and drills. To keep criminals out of your home install an additional lock that can only be manipulated from the inside.
This video discusses a couple of interior locks that work and a couple that don't.

I drill out a Kwikset BHMA Grade 3 lock in 1 min 33 sec. If I started with the big bit and had the correct screwdriver tip installed I think I could be through this lock in about 30 secs. This is a typical residential lock found at hardware stores. It is extremely common in the US. Do you have this lock? Check out my other security videos to learn how to add security to your door. Installation of Williams Firesights on a Browning Buckmark
Переглядів 19 тис.9 років тому
Here's a step-by-step installation guide for installing Williams Firesights on a Browning Buckmark pistol. It's in a slide show format so you can watch it with or without audio. I added a few extra tidbits of info in the audio. Enjoy
Thanks for this great explanation. I used all your tips and got some janky 100 yr old screws out of some door hinges.
or better yet get a heat induction gun
The ahaha moment for me was when you honed it out with a drill. I always thought #1 bit was grooved so #2 could grab in a custom groove . It's really about honing out the hole and going deep in the center if possible so #2 can fit and grab. Now I get it. Appreciate your video.
its still not working WTF i tried reverse both sides
Will this work by hand using a ratchet? I don't have enough room to fit a drill in
sounds so easy. bough the set. and did not work for me ;-( ! wtf...
Still didn't work! I have two stuck drywall screws. I tried it exactly as instructed and can't get either one to budge with two different extraction kits (Speed Out and Ryobi). I tried both kits and different sizes. The extraction side just spins like a drill bit. (and yes, I have it in reverse). They are just regular drywall screws (not some super hard steel) stuck in wall studs. I am so frustrated,
So, buy BHMA grade 1 locks......nice!
Couldn’t get one I have to work.
11:46 should not have shown the bump key
🎉🎉🎉😢🎉😊😂🎉
Finally someone clarified you're suppose to go in reverse with both sides. Ever since I bought this, I thought one side was regular and one side was reverse! Now, following these instructions, I got my first stripped screw out! Immediately after, I tried on another screw and I fail.
THANK YOU! there are FAR too many Shop Snobs that think "How could you POSSIBLY not know how to use/do XYZ", forgetting how few people were privileged enough to grow up with a handy parent, or owning property... so much so that tools like these don't come with instructions! 😖
Do those break easy??? I got a 20 year old jeep that I was taking a T40 screw out and strip the head and now it’s all boogered up and idk what to do
you are holding the nut in a metal vice which pulls heat. and you are heating the bolt up away from the nut. its no wonder that nothing worked until you heated up the nut itself with the lighter or heat gun pointed at the actual nut.
This is crap. He pretends that he unscrewed it because the screw was barely holding :)))
30 seconds intro is too much for a 3 minute video
Piece of shit doesnt work
Quick, smart and to the point. Thank you.
You should have driven the screw all the way in 🙄
This is an older video but wanted to add that the second product doesn’t hold much. If you kicked the door and it was the only thing holding it, the aluminum flexes too much and it will fail. The theory is good but the design is flawed. The slide bolt is the best option but the ring that the bolt goes through you’ll want it to be beefier. Thanks for sharing!
Great Information. I thread locked my Shotgun stock. Time to remove it. 💪
Thankyou!
videos did it forward and you so more others did it reverse!! wtf no one did it with really stuck one just doing it with loose scews do you really still believe this is extreme example??!!! stop cutting/modifing vidoes people this is embarrassing for all of you and wasting time and make us give dislikes and angry!! how could be forward & reverse give the same results if there are some fukers fooling us!!
Really? Heat on smaller fasteners sure but on that 3/8, 7/16 bolt you surely can break it loose with a longer ratchet and some muscle.
I tried to get a car antenna base out with Speed Out bits for three hours & felt they were a big waste for this application
I bought a screw extractor---did not work--will take it back to Harbor Freight
Do not buy
I know this is an older vid but wanted to mention that Kwikset Smartkey although has its own issues with the earlier versions is harder to pick and is bump resistant. Personally, if I get my drill out, I’m taking out the pins as close to shearline as possible or enough to get rid of them. It’s cheaper to replace cylinder itself than a ruin a customers decorative deadbolt. Most all residential pins are brass but the narrow keyway might mess up your drill bit depending on the size you start with so I start with a unibit (aka stepdrill) to get the hole started then go to drill bit. Those door guardians at the last part of the video are better than nothing but because their a low grade aluminum they flex and will not stop a door from getting kicked in. They fail surprisingly quickly too with a little bit of force. The slide bolt design although ugly has been working for thousands of years… Thanks for sharing!
Half a minute of useless bullshit at the beginning. That's disrespectful.
Quite interesting and glad to know these significant distinctions.I intend to use heat for the (action) assembly in building a 10/22 long rifle.I ventured the the thought of the heating affect on new parts,so decided that a heat gun would be better than a torch for aesthetic reasons.Your video confirms my belief for preserving metal parts.Thank you for producing this informative analysis---BIG KUDOS!👍
We decided to give this a try and love it! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU The picture is crystal clear and the motion sensor is on point. Installation was really easy also. It took maybe 10 mins. The ring app is awesome and you can change the settings to your preference and also see what’s going on in your neighborhood from others shared videos. Pretty cool.
Hope this works on my muzzle break ill be using the heat gun
Slide locks but worse
Thanks for this.
In my experience, most of the time you need to remove a red locktite bolt (I am talking bolts like in automotive work not screws like in gunsmithing) you only have access to the bolt head. A torch works well but you do have to worry about flamables in your work area. My favorite tool now is an inductive heater. No open flame and seems to be a little faster too. It has never failed me.
I need the video for after this one: "I tried this, working up through each successively larger extractor bit, and all that happened is the 'part two' end of the bit got stripped just like the screw."
Carbide ripped bits would work
You Rock. Thanks for the video.
Brake cleaner remove it red locite no heat needed let it soak in thread
Great detail video! Only one suggestion ie show us down the sights and talk about the shooting a lil more. Like is it a more refined picture, worth the money? But again if I was just going to install them it is 10/10
Yo las tengo y no valen para nada en el video dudo mucho que si el tornillo estuviera metido entero no saliera, a mi solo me funcionan las de wolfcraft
not a valid test...most screws are not halfway out they are usually screwed completely in
AWESOME INFORMATION in this video! You earned my subscription! Keep them coming! Do you take requests?
I have great idea, take entry door and sandwich a STEEL plate in between it. for door jambs, use I beam on sides, burried 6ft into ground
Im glad I looked this video up, I def would have had the drill in normal drive mode if you hadnt made that clear when using the first bit! thank you!
What is "reverse" the unscrewing mode?
@@TheHoboWithAShotgun yep!
I use red on everything and never have a problem backing stuff back out. Just use a touch of it, its enough to keep things secure but still allows you to remove it if need be. No need for blue and no need for heavy applications.
Bought some of these 7 years ago. Had to remove several old screws. Have never SUCCESSFULLY used these extractors. Maybe it's just me.
What size drill bits did you use
I am a locksmith. this video is a joke.
