LOTRO: Blue Lore-master, Level 150, The Isle of Storms, Solo 3-Player Instance, Multiple Pets
Gwathorn of www.youtube.com/@gwathornsgames has been running a series of videos covering his adventures with his Blue Lore-master playing solo at Landscape Difficulty 9. This video demonstrates how I play my Level 150 Blue Lore-master solo in on-level Fellowship instances using different pets for different situations (but still mostly the Eagle).
The previous video in this short series is here: ua-cam.com/video/mbmjXSsUK_o/v-deo.html
This is the last video in this series.
I almost threw away this recording because I made so many mistakes and failed to call out what I was doing as often as I should have done. But here it is, warts and all.
This is the Class Trait build I use for the character in this video when he is in Blue spec: ilovefriedorc.com/traits/loremaster-BigBoomBlue
This is the Class Trait build I recommend for a Blue Lore-master for more utility and defensive ability at the cost of less damage output: ilovefriedorc.com/traits/loremaster-BlueSupportPetDPS

Diablo II for Mac - Permissions Error Workaround

In 2016, Blizzard released a version of Diablo II which works on modern Macs. This version, 1.14, received several minor updates in the months that followed. The last one, 1.14d, resolved some outstanding issues but introduced a new error reporting system which for many Mac users causes the game to fail to launch. The video was captured with a $30 action cam, the Polaroid Cube Act II. Using iMovie, I performed a little post-processing for stabilization and added a little text but did no other editing. The video speed is 20x normal and the audio is just a squeak.

    Great Videos, ty :) I'm a returning Blue LM, played LM on and off for 17 years or there abouts. I'm confused with the latest update and after playing for the last 48 hours have realised what skills I'm missing and my LI's no longer have the right traceries on them... eg Ancient Craft is now useless on my Blue Red line ... Do you have a link somewhere for your staff and book set up? I am going to change a couple of things in my blue line and add the points to the red. See if I can work out another tracery to replace ancient craft.

    • @JohnMHammer
      @JohnMHammer 16 днів тому

      As long as your Traceries are not deactivated because your character has leveled past their maximum, leave them be for now. Certainly Traceries make a big difference. But other than Pet Damage and Pet Morale, the rest are not going to make a big enough difference for normal-difficulty questing and other landscape play to be worth the bother or the Ancient Script. That way you can get a feel for the new Lore-master and decide whether you really like the way a Blue spec Lore-master plays; and THEN tune up your LIs.

    Learned a lot about playing blue LM, thank you! My problem at lower levels is maintaining pet aggro against groups of mobs. Just fyi, the “g” in sigil is pronounced like a j, not a hard g.

    • @JohnMHammer
      @JohnMHammer Місяць тому

      Thank you, I will try to remember that. I've got Sindarin pronunciation in my head when engaged with LOTRO where nearly all "g"s are hard. The key to keep aggro on the pet is using the pet's skills, preferably while its Wild Sigil buffs are at Tier 5. And when dealing with multiple mobs those skills have to be AoE. While the Lynx has one AoE skill it is triggered with Major Pet Command and so has a 1-minute cooldown; not ideal. Both the Sabre-tooth and the Eagle have AoE skills which can be triggered with Sign of the Wild: Rage which has a 15-second cooldown (in practice, shorter than that). All of the Sabre-tooth's attacks are AoE, the Eagle has one other tied to Major Pet Command. Even so, the Eagle is often the better choice because its AoE attacks are 360° whereas the Sabre-tooth's affect targets in an arc in front of the pet only. Of course, in the earliest levels of play a Lore-master will not have access to the Eagle or the Sabre-tooth and so when dealing with multiple mobs, carefully managing the pet's target and limiting the Lore-master's own threat generation (mostly by restricting its own actions to only those required to support the pet such as applying its Wild Sigils buffs) are the only tools available. If you're just starting out, especially if playing at a high Landscape Difficulty setting, all I can tell you is that it gets better later!

      Didn’t know that about Sindarin, learned something else 😁 My LM is under 20, so I’m still learning, but after watching some of your videos, I can’t wait to get higher levels and try some tougher stuff

    Thanks again for these videos! I'm still playing around with skill key locations (pet & loremaster sigils etc.) but I'm really starting to get the hang of the new blueline Loremaster build. I'm not running missions with any of my loremasters at H+2 but its also interesting to see how it all goes. I'm preferencing blue/yellowline (for blinding flash increased duration & potential cooldown reduction) at high level over blue/redline (more character dps from burning embers with bane flair for emergency daze) and I still can't decide on pet assist (on/off) but I'm a lot closer to a really viable Loremaster after just learning about retributions max sigil buff potential 🙂 I think the pet auto-attack misses might be a real thing & I can see that your pet defeat/bear replacement/inner flame combo worked well too. I can also see that the problems I'm having with drawing aggo does need an amount of attention in this build... still, its a lot of points in yellowline to get a good (ie. constant daze affected critter) via blinding flash. Likes & subscription added.

      This is the spec I've used with my Level 150 Blue Lore-master for group support and for those times where I felt the need for more crowd control and other utility while soloing: ilovefriedorc.com/traits/loremaster-BlueSupportPetDPS But I prefer this one most of the time, even for exceptionally challenging content, because while I'll always miss Blinding Flash as a base skill the extra damage from the Red traits amplified by Critical Coordination from Blue gets me through things faster and usually with more safety - because dead dudes don't do damage: ilovefriedorc.com/traits/loremaster-BigBoomBlue

      @@JohnMHammer These both look great & I'd only change one or two for my particular/quirky D9/H+2 solo play style :-) Maybe swapping the two non-eagle pets (or 2xLoyalty) for catmint & unbreakable Bond. Then swap beacon of hope (and/or the third Firm Grasp) for a greatly increased grace period in Blinding Flash. I'm still struggling a bit with drawing aggro away from the pet at H+2 & decreasing the loremasters actual damage output is the easiest way to slow this from happening. When I get better with the new build I'll probably go blue/red rather than blue/yellow just to increase overall damage output... Looks nice & thanks for the trait building website again :-)

      No. As I explained in both the video and in the description, the Mac version of Diablo II is a 32-bit application. The last version of MacOS which will run 32-bit applications is 10.14 Mojave. You can purchase Codeweavers Crossover and run the Windows version of Diablo II in MacOS 11 Big Sur - I play the game that way and it works very well except for the inability to create or join games on “closed” Battle.net.

  • @felipesanclementealzate7283

    I found another workaround to this issue. Note that I play on 10.14.6 Mojave. Go to the D2 files and locate a folder called BlizzardError; delete all error log files (which should be identified with the date of the error and other additional numbers (i.e. 2021-04-01 00.01.12), and that's it... You should be able to get D2 running on a couple of attempts. Additionally, the game will run much smoother than before (prior to not being able to launch the game, my game would crash if I changed acts through certain waypoints, or even entered a town portal in certain locations). Hope this tip is useful.

    • @JohnMHammer
      @JohnMHammer 3 роки тому

      Thanks for that tip, Felipe! It’s a well-known issue with the Mac version of D2 that a large number of files in the Diablo II folder (the one which encloses the application package) can cause odd delays and instability when zoning to town in Act 1 and Act 3 and even result in long loading times for the single-player character selection screen or inability to join network games. This can happen from log files building up or just from having a large number of character files in the Diablo II/Save folder. I was not aware, however, that the presence of error log files could prevent the game from launching properly and I am not sure it’s the same issue as the one I describe in this video which is related to permissions. I have no way to test this solution myself since I regularly flush log and cache files and other cruft but I’m sure your instructions will help others.

      Please note that the native Mac application of D2 works only under MacOS 10.14 Mojave and earlier. It is a 32-bit application and any version of MacOS more recent than Mojave does not support 32-bit applications. So if you have an "Apple Silicon" Mac which can't run anything earlier than Big Sur or don't want to/can't have a Mojave (or earlier) boot volume on your Intel Mac, you will not be able to run the native Mac application. 1- Purchase D2 and D2:LOD if you haven't done that already: us.shop.battle.net/en-us/product/diablo-ii us.shop.battle.net/en-us/product/diablo-ii-lord-of-destruction 2- Download D2 and D2:LOD for Mac. Blizzard does host it on their servers but no longer makes it easy to find. Here is a direct link for the downloads. Please note that you will not be able to complete the installations if you do not have keys from the purchases: us.battle.net/support/en/article/13867 3- Install D2. 4- Install D2:LOD. That's all there is to it. There's nothing complicated, it's like purchasing and downloading and installing any other application that's not on the Mac App Store. If you have a Mac that can't run Mojave or you just don't want to set up a boot volume with Mojave for playing the game, you can use the Windows version of the game with WINE or Crossover. I have a Mojave boot volume and the native Mac app works fine. I also have Crossover and run the Windows version of the game while booted into Big Sur, this also works fine (with the exception of problems getting into "closed" Battle.net games but single-player and TCP group games work fine). Please note that this reply to you is pretty much a repeat of some of my earlier replies to other people. Please read the other comments in this thread for more information. • @JohnMHammer

      Diablo II for Mac is a 32-bit application. All post-Mojave versions of MacOS do not have support for 32-bit applications. That means the native Mac application for Diablo II will not work on Catalina, Big Sur, or anything that comes after. I use Big Sur every day for work and whatnot but I keep a Mojave boot volume so I can run Diablo II and a number of other old 32-bit applications including a few other games which have not been - and probably will never be - updated to 64-bit. You can create a new boot volume on your internal drive or an external drive following these instructions: support.apple.com/en-us/HT208891 And you can get the installer for MacOS Mojave from the Mac App Store. You are correct: Blizzard has almost entirely dropped support for the native Mac application of Diablo II and no longer offers it as a download at your account page on Blizzard.com. However, although it is no longer listed as a download on your account page, it is still hosted and can be safely downloaded directly from Blizzard. You will need your CD-Keys because these downloads do not have your keys preloaded, they are not linked to your Blizzard account until after installation when you enter your keys. See this page for the links: us.battle.net/support/en/article/13867 Note that you need to download and install Diablo II and only then download and install Diablo II: Lord of Destruction on top of that. I will note that Codeweaver's Crossover (which is basically the "pro" version of WINE) runs the Windows version of D2 really well on Big Sur. If you don't want to bother with creating a Mojave boot volume and rebooting to play the game, consider getting Crossover. It is not free but it does have a 2-week free trial so you can test it out and make sure whatever Windows apps you want to run will work on your computer. I use it with quite a number of Windows apps so the cost of Crossover is worth it to me. I will note that the Windows version of D2 through Crossover on a Mac will allow single-player mode, "open" Battle.net play, and TCP/IP play - but it will not work 100% with "closed" Battle.net, you can create an account and log in and create a character but characters can't enter any games on "closed" Battle.net. I think there is some network component missing from the WINE setup used by Crossover. But honestly, I don't care: I play online with friends using TCIP/IP and never on "closed" Battle.net because "closed" Battle.net is a cesspool of puerile children, PKs, and bots. I even have my installation of the Windows version of D2 in Crossover set up with PlugY which adds quite a number of extra features and conveniences including the ability to enable ladder-only runewords, fight Uber Diablo, transfer items easily through a shared stash system, and more. Crossover can be downloaded here: www.codeweavers.com/crossover PlugY can be downloaded here: plugy.free.fr/en/index.html

      Two possibilities: 1- You are trying to run this on an M1 Mac. Or in any version of MacOS later than Mojave. If so, it won't work at all. Diablo II for Mac is a 32-bit application and no version of MacOS after Mojave has support for 32-bit applications. M1 Macs require Big Sur or later. 2- You either entered the path in Terminal incorrectly or you just tried double-clicking the Diablo II executable in the package. The latter won't work, you have to use the Terminal. In a Terminal window, type this: sudo /Applications/Games/Diablo II/Diablo II.app/Contents/MacOS/Diablo II It's better, however, to open the Terminal window, type "sudo" followed by a space, then drag the Diablo II executable (the one inside the package, not the application icon in your /Applications folder) into the Terminal window because that will enter the pathing for you with no possibility of a typo screwing things up. Follow the instructions in the video.

    Another fellow posted a different fix for this problem: ua-cam.com/video/sz-8iP7eCC4/v-deo.html I don’t know why it works, but it does. To apply his fix, set your monitor resolution to 800x600 then launch the game normally. Let the game load, test to be sure it’s working, then quit the game. You should now be able to go back to your default monitor resolution and launch the game normally without any additional fuss. I tested this and while I don’t understand why, it does resolve the failure-to-launch issue. The “fix” sticks between log outs, restarts, and I even shut down then cold booted and the game continues to launch normally without any need to change resolution or use the Terminal. Since I continue to have more free time than normal thanks to COVID limiting my work time (and, sadly, my income...) I’ll investigate why this super-simple resolution trick works to “fix” the game launch problem and will post anything I find in the comments section of this video. Note that launching the game using the Terminal as I described in this video remains a useful tool so that arguments such as -act5 or other suffixes can be used when starting the game.

    Hello, do you know how to play in widescreen on Mac? Regards.

      Hey, Benjamin. Diablo 2 is a 20-year-old game. It was coded to work in only two resolutions: 640x480 and 800x600. You can use larger 4:3 screen resolutions but that will just give you an interpolated screen draw, not higher resolution or widescreen. There are two ways to get “widescreen” but both have their limitations: 1- There is a mod called MultiRes. I have never tried it because while it provides true 16:9 widescreen output, it is detectable by Battle.net as an illegal mod and will result in your CD key being banned. Blizzard disallows this mod because it allows the player to see objects and monsters at a longer distance from the character. I do not use this mod for that reason so I cannot provide any further information about it. 2- You can get the game to run in a kind of stretched widescreen, everything will look a little shorter and wider. I find this visually unappealing but some people do prefer it, look at videos from UA-camr Djuntas to see what this looks like. You can get this effect by starting the game using the Terminal as I described in this video and adding the -w and -nofixaspect arguments. The -w argument forces the game to start in window mode and -nofixaspect will force the game to the squashed widescreen mode (if your monitor resolution is 16:9). After the game launches you can use the cmd-m key combination to change from window mode to full screen. It’s an old game so we have to enjoy it the way it was intended for turn-of-the-century hardware. Expecting 16:9 aspect ratios and 1080p or higher resolutions is like opening up grandad’s antique chess set in the attic and expecting the pieces to animate and wrestle each other like they do in that scene from the original Star Wars movie.

      John Hammer thank you so much for you answer! I will try the second option to see how it is :)

    Nice ride, beautiful path and park. Have always wanted to try a P-38 but have never had the chance. There are almost no bents in NM. Thanks for the video, Alex

      I see one New Mexico 'bent rider registered here: www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?msa=0&mid=17x-KsTr7RoiP7uxtbC2_oA8OUIs&ll=32.266780209303214%2C-106.2750671112077&z=9 If you go to bentrider.com you could send him a private message through the site's system to get in touch with him. Or make a public post of your own and see if any members are in your area. If you ever come to New York City you'll be welcome to come for a ride with me and use my P-38 if you'll fit.

    Nice video. Thanks for sharing it with us. I just sold a Rans XStream and am waiting for delivery of a Stratus XP. Looks like you have some other nice bents, too. Queens looks beautiful. Was this a Sunday? I'm surprised there was so little traffic on such broad streets. Looks like a comfortable place to ride, for the most part, Alex

      The Stratus XP is a great bike! Mine is a 2011 aluminum k-frame, very similar to Rans's current Pheonix LWB bike. This was around noon on a weekday and I avoided the busiest roads, leaving home well after rush hour was done and finishing well before the school dismissal mommy traffic got started. We're getting more bicycle infrastructure but for most places I want to go I need to ride on unimproved streets. It's really not a problem if you follow the rules (stopping at stop signs, waiting at red lights, etc.) and assert your right to be on the road without being obnoxious about it.

      The XP I just purchased is a 2008 steel frame (chromoly?). The XStream was a great bike but I'm short and the handlebars weren't sufficiently adjustable to accommodate my need to have the seat far forward and the bottom bracket was too high, it turned out, and my feet would go numb after about 12 miles. I have two other bents with BB at or just below the seat level and haven't had any trouble, so I'm hopeful that the XP's seat and handlebar and lower BB will work for me.

      @@mongofan1 Sometimes numb feet can be addressed by adding foot retention. Do you use heel slings or a clipless system? Without foot retention and with a high-ish bottom bracket, you put a lot more effort into just keeping your feet on the pedals especially when not actively pedaling. This leads to greater fatigue, and more continuous pressure on the feet just to keep them in place.

    A great little park and one of my favorite spots in Queens. Very underutilized - every time I've been there, the park has been nearly empty. Magnificent views of the East River, Hunts Point, Castle Hill, Riker's Island, and LaGuardia Airport. The park is leafy, green, and contemplative. Any time you feel like getting away from it all, sitting on a bench, and taking in the beautiful scenery northern Queens offers, this is the place to go.

      Other than a big birthday party one weekend and the sometime fisher-folk who lay their poles across the promenade path, “underutilized” has been my observation as well. It’s kind of nice, though: Quiet and peaceful, there’s always a free bench with a view, and little noise to cover the lapping of the waves against the rocks beyond the constant aircraft traffic and summer cicadas. Where have you been? I miss your videos, I hope you’ll be posting more soon!

    You're getting the rattle noise & shakiness because you mounted it to the bike. Mount it to your helmet, anywhere on your body, it makes a ton of difference.

      Thanks, Roy! I found that a rubber band helps a lot, much of the shaking comes from the cheap plastic handlebar mount and the rubber band damps that considerably. I understand that buffering road imperfections through my body meat would be better but I prefer to have the camera on the bike so it's always there without me having to add it to my pre-ride prep.

    Whoops, description not entirely correct: I let iMovie do its automatic color enhancement (which didn't do much) and did a shake reduction (which ruins the apparent resolution where it applies). I won't be doing either in the future, the raw video is cleaner and better-looking.
