A faster way to block 3V Ford 5.4.
Figured out a way to save some more time on these headache engines.
Still have to get those meddling valve covers off, then, no special tools, no losing timing, no bolt replacement.
may have to shave a corner of your stop block down to wiggle it in between the plate and the phaser.
Then reverse the process, and you're done!

      Sure, the compressor comes off with a few bolts, the hoses are long enough to leave them attached. Point it up, replace the pulley, put the compressor back and pull the Allen key and you're back on the road.

    I change my oil roughly every 5000 miles. As it turns out, I still have between 45% and 50% oil life left according to that meter so I simply don’t reset it and when the light comes on for service I’m doing the second oil change, it’s worked out not only for myself but in my shop Uber drivers come in with a half 1,000,000 miles on a Highlander and they do the same exact thing. Regardless of the cost of the oil it’s still cheaper than major engine repairs. As far as the transmission goes always change it between 40 and 50,000 miles, even if it’s just a drain and fill after 65 or 70,000 miles leave it alone and hope for the best.

Although the cars are horrible pigs with the Powerglide, the vans aren't that bad once you get them tuned correctly. My '61 GB was an awesome vehicle to drive with the Powerglide whereas my '63 Rampside was perfect with the manual. But, on the other hand, my '66 Monza convertible is an absolute pig with an automatic, even with the 140 upgraded engine.

    Sorry bro. I disagree. I had a couple of cars with oil life meters and changed it only when the car said. The manufacturer recommended way. Ive opened both cars valve covers and checked timing chain and everything looked great. One car had 180,000 miles on it. No engine problems. I do however use high quality full synthetic when i do change the oil

    • @thirdpedal4512
      @thirdpedal4512 Рік тому

      Using quality oil is certainly a huge thing. Were these vehicles all from the same manufacturer? Do you drive mostly in town or out of town? How cold/hot does it get where you are? What's your regular warm up time before you start driving? Do you ever have to add oil? These are all factors that make a large impact on oil life. Factors that the counters don't take or can't take good measure of. Will following the counter automatically kill the car by 100k? No, however people trust blindly in them. I had an Chevy Cruze come in several times with less than 10% left on the counter. The, maybe 2qts of oil like substance that came out of that car was scary. I showed the customer every time and said she needed to actually check her oil level and change it more often. It has serious blow-by, which quickly dirties the oil. She insisted that the counter in the dash would tell her what she needed to do. Where would she get that idea? It's certainly not in the manual. Maybe the sales person, maybe she came up with on her own thinking I was just another thieving mechanic? Hardly, I dislike changing oil. It's a necessary thing that has no profit. Scientifically, there's an optimum time to change the oil, every oil change being a bit different based on a huge array of factors. No one will ever know when that perfect time is. I'm glad that you're happy with the results of the timer and your choice in product. The facts still stands that the system they used is entirely too ignorant or purposefully inaccurate and causes a lot of premature damage to a lot of engines. I've seen it time and time again. It's not acceptable for manufacturers to have it so wrong. Might as well forget to air up the tires. We'll stick with the sticker tech, unless it's leaking or burning the oil, it's almost never wrong.

    • @b-ryder4324
      @b-ryder4324 Рік тому

      @@thirdpedal4512 Chevy Cruze is natorius (especially turbo) for the pcv failing that will cause excessive oil consumption. Just because I don't change the oil until the oil life meter says it's ready, doesn't mean you don't have to check oil under the hood every once in while. In fact, if you read most manuals it will say to check the oil periodically regardless of oil life. Those systems take in to accountability, speed, temperature, distance, idle time, rpm etc. That to me seems way more accurate than counting the mileage from the last change. Anyway I liked your response, thanks for your feed back, and I hope I didn't come off negativity

    As a junior in high school, I had the opportunity to suffer a driving trip or two in the form of high school biology field trips. They were really perks afforded the honors biology class where the teacher and a couple of parents car pooled somewhere into the woods for everyone to commune with nature and skip out on a few school days. For that class, we earned it. One parent regular had a new Greenbrier she used. Same color as here. (Weren't they all puke green?) Your basic Corvair engine driving a two speed Poweglide trany left over from the early 1950s. With a load of kids and camping gear it struggled to clear 60 MPH at a time when 75 was the limit everywhere. I think it was born because someone at GM noticed that VW was selling as many vans as it could import, so why shouldn't Chevy skim some of that action? The short answer was that a cheesebox engine powering through a four speed manual will slide by where a two speed slushbox Powerglide was a joke dragging around an overweight van body. Plus, there was never a day in the 1960s where GM craftmanship could match the fit and finish of the Germans. The quality of the technology fitted in the Grienbrier was circa 1940. I cannot imagine how it could have been made more cheaply or less safe. It rode like a buckboard, bouncing over everything in the road. By 1962 US auto standards, it was a piece of junk rolling off the dealer lot. I wouldn't spend 2 cents restoring this "thing".

      @randallstewart1224 I couldn't disagree with you more. I owned both a '64 Greenbrier with Powerglide and a '66 VW bus. The Greenbrier was a Cadillac by comparison. It could keep up with traffic and do the freeway without issue. Mine wasn't loaded with kids and camping gear. It was a way better car than the VW and a good car in it's own right. Mine was pristine unrestored condition.
