I am new to the RC hobby and though there is plenty of information out there on how to get into RC almost all of it comes from the perspective of those who have been in the hobby for a long time. It's easy to forget some of the things you went through when you were new to something, so I decided to share my experience as someone who is also new to RC. I will talk through the choices I make, pitfalls I find, mistakes I make, and of course the triumphs of joining a new and VERY exciting hobby! Tune in and check it out, you may learn something (even if all you learn is what NOT to do)!

This is my review of the Redcat racing Gen8 crawler. This is a longer video than I intended but it's worth the watch if you are considering picking up this rig.

After weeks of trying, several broken parts along the way, and plenty of frustration... I FINALLY broke 70 MPH with my 4 Tec 2.0 completely stock on 3S. Special thanks to MaxAmps for selling me a battery that is not only extremely powerful, but INCREDIBLY durable!

I take my 4 Tec 2.0 VXL out for some speed runs, this time on 3s. My goal was to get to 70 MPH but I only managed 69.8 MPH. SO CLOSE, had I not crashed at the end and spent 10 minutes looking for my GPS I might have made another pass and got there!

I take my 4 Tec 2.0 VXL out for some more speed runs. Trying to squeeze all I can out of the stock setup on 2S. This time I toss in one of my 100C 2s racing batteries to see what we can do. I improved to 47.2 MPH, but I also paid the price, selecting a poor location for my first pass. I hit a bad patch, crashed the car and wrecked my beautiful Ford GT body.

Man thats quite busy road back there, what a good run, 🙆 My HSP 1/10 went 100kmh with 3s stock 29pinion and 64gear, still ongoing for higher gear soon..

Do you think a 3s 9000mah 100c battery will be too much for the car stock with the optional gearing?
No I don't think it will be too much, the ESC will only draw what it can so having some extra capacity won't hurt. It might be a bit heavy though.

@@ironforgerc4799 thats crazy can u drive around with it normally or is it only for like 3 passes then it gets hot?
@@TheK20eg You can actually drive around a fair bit on 3S with that gearing without issue. If you are ripping on it it will heat up fairly quickly, but just your average cruise around you could go quite awhile before needing to cool it down.

@@car_detailing0327 Yes, but there is a good reason. Almost all of the LiPo batteries you buy for RC are built with used cells, this is why they don't tend to last more than a year or two. MaxAmps uses all brand new packs and that is why they get so much more performance and also why they offer a lifetime warranty. Believe me, this battery is not even a hard case and it's been through some horrendous crashes. I don't use their batteries in everything all the time, but in this case it's absolutely worth it!

That's stock electronics with the optional 'high-speed' gearing that is included in the box with the VXL 4 Tec 2.0
This place was garbage. Rude staff always had to order shit unless u had the newest version of the tlr model out. I switched to dirt oval because I was tired of dealing with this place. There is a reason they went out of business.

Probably watched a brushed this one is brushless the brushed is rated for about 25-30 brushless stock should do 55 on a 3s a 2s maybe 35 brushless

@@nicetonotcare63 Switch to the 35/55. The 29 tooth pinion is not going to break 50MPH unless you step up to a 3S battery. You will get into the 40's if you go 35/55 on a good 2S battery pack.

405 is the only game left in town since Oklahoma Hobbies closed a few weeks ago. I sold all my racing stuff but I still need to get out there and film!

@@ttgracing5827 Good luck man! It takes good conditions to get it up over 70. I wound up going through two sets of stock tires by the time I got there.
Thats why I like old fashioned battery straps. Max amp batteries are money! Just get an smc next time. They have nice 120 amp c 3s batteries more than that esc puts out for less than half the price. Esc is 65 amp continuous or 80 at the most and like 320 burst for a second. Thats is most that thing puts out. Like my max 10 its 760 burst but only 120 continuous on my 2wd speed modded stampede that goes 85 on dual smc 2s 75c 8000s on 2650 kv 3674 motor with mod 1 gearing 26p 34 spur. Its on grps and -3° camber in the rear. Has j concepts hi flow speed body with half pound added to the front to keep nose on the ground. I went with rpm mods and s7 grp slicks with 17mm hub adapters. Its pretty wild with that big ass 8th scale system and temps stay safe after 15 minutes of wide open throttle 80+mph passes

actually not much, the body was pretty much ruined, and the battery came out. The only broken part was a wheel cup and a lost dogbone.
How does that car take the abuse over the runs you put though it? Can you please do a video about a detailed review over this car like how temps are when you run if you know. How many passes you have in that car now and are those xt60 plugs or xt90?

I subbed and appreciate one back. Im having hard time deciding on this car, xo1, or infraction. I was wondering what car holds up best in terms of not blowing out major parts and things overheating. I want it for hard passes and maybe occasional drifts. Can stock system hold up hard bashing on 2s? I know it probably will overheat on 3s if you stay in the pedal with large caps mah batteries running 15+ minutes beating on her hard. Seem like all rc cars you need bigger system to run cooler
Yes you can bash hard on 2s, the gearing is more important than the cells as far as heat is concerned. As far as durability as long as you dn't slam into curbs or crash at 70MPH these things are VERY durable. I can't speak to the other two options as I don't have them. I know the XO-1 is really meant for speed only and not so much bashing.

Try using the optional high speed gearing, 55t 48p or even 70t 48p. Then you’ll be pumping up to that 70+ mph mark.

You're confused on how gearing works a bigger spur gear would make it slower 70t is way too big the pinion gear is what you want to make bigger but they are nowhere near 55-70t

Your battery is too big. Less miliamp hours=less weight

Greetings from Norman! I just found your video. My wife and I have a couple crawlers. She has a gen 7, I just recently bought a gen 8. We really like our Redcats! They're great fun. Where are some good crawling spots?
Apologies for the delay for some reason UA-cam didn't notify me of your comment. Up in my neck of the woods Draper Lake is the most common spot. I have a church near me with some great features (that's where most of my video is taken). I know folks go up to Arcadia and crawl around. I went to school at OU but that town has changed so much since then I don't know if I could name a good spot off the top of my head. I bet Thunderbird has some spots, and man you could snap some good photos on campus if they don't run you off. I'd like to head down to the Arbuckles one weekend and make a day out of it sometime. Have you found any good spots yet?
