Where are you buying or acquiring your kuromatsu (black pine) guitar tops? I have a guitar made by a luthier named Morio Tasaki which unfortunately is in dire need of a new top due to some poor attempts at crack repairs by previous owners.

Okay I am guilty of using the floppy end on the bridge... didnt know it was a by product of the manufacturing process and also the weakest part of the string...yikes! Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this. I am wanting to build my first guitar after years of putting it off,and have always been put off by bending the sides. Is discouraging because everyone else insists on $1000+ machines to do what you did with a pipe and torch. Sincerely ….thank you. I may just get this done.

I played classical and fingerstyle guitar for decades. Twelve years ago a wrist injury put an end to that. So it’s been all electric since. Fast forward to today: I’ll be recording some leads and fills on to a Spanish style piece. Pulled out the dusty nylon string and muscle memory failed me. Thanks. You got it right and now, so do I, again. And yeah: tune a half step up.

In Japan they call spruce tops pine (松). Never could figure out why, but now I know.

Question about French polish. I have a French polished spruce top guitar and the top's finish has super fine cracking, or at least that is what it looks like. There's no wood cracking, just the finish. Have you experienced that? Does it mean anything serious? Thanks.

A bit of an odd question, but given your violin building training, I wondered: Have you built (or would you consider building) an acoustic archtop guitar along the lines of a Gibson L-5? I am a long time archtop player ("lesser" vintage Gibsons, an L Jr, an L-75, and an L-50) who finally added a basic classical guitar to my palette two weeks ago. Even though it's a humble all-laminate Yamaha C40, it sounds wonderful. And it has a surprising degree of tonal similarity with my L-50 in particular. I'd love to hear your opinions on archtops.

Didn't work for me. high E string didn't "settle", just slides up to behind the bridge or on the bridge. Just how is this supposed to work?

I think I've heard your thoughts on double tops, which Turkowiak appears to be building exclusively now, but how would you feel about building a guitar with interchangeable fingerboards like Fernando Perez had come up with? That video Rob Scallon did with you was great! Thank you Marshall Brune.

My main guitar is a factory-made tanglewood classical that we got second hand for £50 about 10 years ago. I have no idea how old it is, but despite the chipped surface and sun bleaching on the top it still sounds great and has a really nice low action to it. I hope one day i will have played it so much that the wear on the fingerboard becomes visible, and i will be proud to have gotten so much out of it

*I propose you try bamboo instead for bracing because it allows you to thin it down to about 1/16 of an inch, enabling more vibration while remaining strong enough to safeguard the soundboard. Merry Christmas to you*

A lot of ash trees are dead in my neighborhood. I thought it'd be cool to make an ash piano where the finish had what looked like a metallic flake but it would be the dead bodies of the emerald ash borer. Anyway is there ever an application for other woods to be used in a guitar? Like does a certain wood work good for high end noises but sucks on the lows but for a few songs it's awesome to have the high end.
