RV Travel - Billings, Montana - Things to Do and a Great RV Campground Review!
If Billings, MT is on your schedule or you are heading through there to another place we have a great campground for you to stay at right off of the highway. We really enjoyed our stay at Yellowstone River RV Campground. #RV #rvtravellife #rvcamping #rvlife
www.buymeacoffee.com/Herronsonthefly
I love to check out the pictographs every where we go and this cave was interesting, there were actually 2 caves to see and the visitor center had great information. Displays also included some of the artifacts.
The Yellowstone Wildlife Rescue in Red Lodge was great to see and we really liked walking and shopping in Red Lodge. We will add that little town to our bucket list for a future stop.
The Billings fair was going on and we got tickets to the Rodeo, which was in an indoor arena so that was very different from other rodeos we have been too. Nice seats with backs!
It was a quick visit to Billings and we restocked, did laundry and got ready to another few days of travel to Medora, ND.

Great dry fly day! One of our better days fly fishing in of our Hyde Drift Boat on the Missouri River from Craig to Mid Canon take out this season. I lost a number of trout today - fishing with 5X tippet and putting too much pressure on them will do that. They’re not even wearing life jackets…. As said when not wearing life jackets. No one cares more about saftey than jet boaters. It’s you floaters than are required by law to move. I’m sure you got laughed at by “the proper authorities!”

    • @HerronsOnTheFly
      @HerronsOnTheFly 29 днів тому

      Well when you are almost 70 years old and out of your drift boat wading no one cares but your own family. It is all fun and games until someone gets hurt. I doubt we will ever fly fish the Snake again.

  • @yamaryder6
    @yamaryder6 Місяць тому

    Understandably, you're frustrated out of your ignorance of how these boats operate. Jetboats must keep their speed up to stay on plane. Slowing them down sits them lower in the water which can be catastrophic in shallow sections of water. The boat actually makes a much smaller wake while up on plane like that than if it were to go slow. Also, when navigating the river they rely on memory for sections like that. Once committed into a section like that there is no slowing down and no turning around. It requires commitment. I promise you the captain of that boat wished you no harm and wants to share that beautiful environment with you. Be mindful that we all enjoy the outdoors in different ways. Just because you don't like the way someone else is enjoying it doesn't mean that they are in the wrong.

    • @HerronsOnTheFly
      @HerronsOnTheFly 29 днів тому

      I agree we all have the same right to enjoy nature. Because of the danger we felt on the river we will probably never drift or wade fish the Snake again. My husband is almost 70 and we have always felt safe drifting and wading the over 70 rivers we have been on. Not so much after that experience...he would have died if he had still been in the water.

    How do you handle getting your vehicle and trailer down river to your take out spot?

    • @HerronsOnTheFly
      @HerronsOnTheFly Місяць тому

      We use the local fly fishing shop, Headhunters in Craig, that offer a shuttle service. Depending on where you put in and take out the cost can vary because of the mileage. Usually it costs us between $35 and $45 dollars a shuttle plus we leave the driver a tip. You can have them lock the car and keep the keys at the fly shop if you have an extra set of keys or leave the keys somewhere in the truck. If you are fishing other rivers stop at a fly shop and they can refer you to a company that shuttles. Some of them arrange payment online.

      Yes there are a couple of parking areas past the dam. You will reach a point where the road stops. Listen for the sirens and move out of the water if they sound them. That happened to us both days we fished it. The water did not rise that fast. Have fun..watch for snakes and carry bear spray.

    Hi Mike, Ed Reiner here. A blast from the past. I would ask how life is treating you, but I can see from your blog you have a great life. I didn't know how else to contact you. I have a question. I retired a few years ago and we are planning on making some life changes. My questions, in your travel would there be 2 or three locations you would recommend for a second home or to relocate to. In a mountain or western community not too big and not to small with good climate and of course some of the benefits we need as we age. I look forward to hearing what you say.

      Hi Ed nice to hear from you. That is a major question you just asked. Well lets start with what are your intrests? Because if you like snow and skiing then we don't send you to Arizona. So send me a note back to my with a list of what intrest you. Climate, activities and medical needs. We have been to 48 states I'm sure we can figure something out. Also add cost of living that would work for you. Mike Email: Herronsonthefly@gmail.com

      @@HerronsOnTheFly Good morning, Good questions, Unlike you I did not have a good plan when I retired. In fact I would still be working but my wife was pressuring me a little. She has hobbies and interest, I don't. Here is the situation, first it is time to give up the California dream, traffic, taxes, politics and crime. We both are in good health but future health care is important. We would like mild weather not to hot not to cold with season and a light snow would be OK. We have family in Scottsdale but that is too hot and good tax wise. A Bozeman type town. I would move back Lewisburg but for her family that is to far. We have been to Boise, loved it. Jackson WY to cold, Bozeman to cold, loved Utah not sure if it is the right fit. We are going to Grand Junction CO in a few week. I'm looking forward to it. Financial we are good. There is one place in CA that could be a option that is Paso Robles. Does that help. Lookin forward to what you have to say and more about your travels.
